From the article Steam Gauge: Measuring the most popular Steam games of 2014

People like to play Football Manager, apparently.

Also, sales-wise (not FM related):

Funny stuff.

No, yeah, that's all you need to know. He single-handedly put that game up there.

I'm actually surprised NBA 2K15 sold that much on PC.

Well then, that explains it. Wait no it doesnt. "Best selling Steam games in 2014", was it always free?

The games being played most is about what you would expect given daily steam stats. The big shock for me was the amount of units Company of Heroes 2 and Rome II have sold. 4 million in the past year? Damn.

Skyrim at 3 million looks like it has legs due to mods and baseline hardware catching up. Also, NBA2k15 4 million is amazing. I remember at one point that NBA2k14 had pushed 5 million units on consoles over a year. I look at lolvgchartz and the list all consoles having 4 million sold of 2k15 combined. Is it possible PC is the best-selling platform for that title?

Isn't football manager the type of game people more or less leave running all day even when they're doing other stuff.

Impressive sale numbers. Rome 2 sales are really inspiring. The genre is clearly not as niche as many people believed. The game sold 1.3 million copies in 2013, so overall sales are over 5 million. That's really impressive.

Yep. I have clocked over 1.5k hours on FM 2013 from leaving it running in the background for weeks on end, so the times are a bit skewed.
