https://www.pcgamer.com/fallout-76-wont-launch-on-steam/

The Fallout 76 beta FAQ states, among other things, that "the B.E.T.A. [that's a Fallout-style acronym for Break it Early Test Application] and the game will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and on PC (via Bethesda.net only)." The Fallout 76 purchase page also bears only a generic "PC game" logo, with no mention of Steam. And today, Bethesda confirmed that neither the beta nor the full game will be released on the platform.

"The PC version of Fallout 76, for both the B.E.T.A. and the launch, will be available only via Bethesda.net, not on Steam," a Bethesda rep said in an email.

The downfall of STEAM.

Just like EA and Origin. I'm surprised others like Ubisoft haven't started doing as well.

no idea what you are talking about.

regardless, in my entire life I have literally thrown away only 4 games, and one of those games was Fallout.

so why do I care about Fallout? oh that is right, I dont.

and I am too busy playing games I like to be worried about games I dont like. far too many options for great games already.

Even one man games like StarsOne is better then Fallout

Ubisoft is smart enough to know that it's lost sales when it's not on Steam. Some people buy exclusively on Steam.

Personally, I don't care what platform a game is on, but Fallout 76 looks like crap, so I doubt I'll be indulging in it.

@tryit: so you should not add that you're a steam fan, you should only say you don't like fallout. Because the way you're talking seems like someone that was manipulated by marketing and are loyal to steam ?

Gee, I really wish I had some sort of unified platform, some sort of master box that just plays like a bazillion games including the upcoming Fallout 76 without having to install some sort of extra client on it.

no...for a lifetime.

there are already more fantastic games I want to get my hands on to play then I likely will ever have in a lifetime.

My wish list is long but the games I am playing now are still engaging so its very easily a very very long time before I tap out

the point of making a point is such that the person recieving the information has a clue what you are talking about.

stop trying to be clever and make your point because I havent a clue and I am not smart enough!

Valve does not have a marketing department and they spend almost nothing on marketing and game journalism rarely ever says nice things about Steam so what the F are yo utalking about?

an email?

when a game like COD gets released every game journalist site is plastered with COD adds, articles about how amazing COD is. videos on how stunning 'the dog' is.

Valve doesnt even have a marketing department

no they do not have a marketing department.

Gabe has spoken about this directly, they do not feel marketing is the way to go, instead they would rather spend that money on content

when a game like COD gets released every game journalist site is plastered with COD adds, articles about how amazing COD is. videos on how stunning 'the dog' is.

Valve doesnt even have a marketing department

when was the last time you saw Steam plastered all over a game journalist site with positive articles and videos all over it talkig about how amazing it is?

it was not PR talk. it was a lecture given to college students.

He said 'we do not have a marketing department'

look I get it, you think marketing does not work. I get it you think if a company spend a billion dollars marketing something that it has no more effect on a person then if they spend $10 . I get it. I get you think the multi-billion dollar industry doesnt work. I get it.

Either that or you think that it does work but the amount of money spent on it does not make it more effective.

dude. a few things

1. Valve does not have a marketing department. peroid.

2. Valve clearly does not spend much money if at all on marketing. when was the last time you saw a game journalist site plastered with adds for Steam with articles on how amazing Steam is?

3. HTC Vive VR headset was released with nearly zero adds for it. They didnt even bother to go to E3 to reveal it.

4. You seem to think either A. Marketing has zero effect on people or B. the amount of money doesnt matter, 1 billion or $10 it both has the same effect.

5. I have family members who have never heard of PUB (whatever) but HAVE heard of Fornite

6. LITERALLY ONLY ONE GAME has been advertised on videos I watch on youtube in the past serveral weeks...guess what ONE game that is? Fortnite

7. my personality or person attributes or posting history has NOTHING whatsoever to do with facts

now stop it and get back to the topic

brand loyalty I do not have with Valve and you have not provided evidence of that. Liking a brand, is not brand loyality

I read that, and it's really kind of annoying. I don't know if saving Steams 30% or so charge is going to offset the potential lost sales. Still, it's Fallout.

Bethesda are only hurting themselves by doing this. Their games continue to sell well on Steam for years and years, while the console versions have long since been forgotten about. Skyrim still sells very well on Steam even now, and it's six years old.

By doing this they've ensured the PC version will fail. They've also basically ended any chance for this game to continue making any money after about a year or so. It's their choice. But this is an extremely stupid business decision that will probably cost them a few hundred million dollars.

well they are controlled by Zenimax which is a company that appears to like to make money by suing rather than making good games.

so there is that

Kind of like how I get TESO from Bethesda...oh wait, that didn't break Steam, either. But I guess initially offering it via their in-house launcher wasn't good enough, because it came to Steam eventually anyway.

lol, you salty mother frackers. I don't care how many times you read "The Secret", just because you think and wish something often enough doesn't will it into existence (or out of existence). Steam is here to stay, with or without any Bethesda titles, let alone Fallout 76.

Just kind of wondering why so many of you hate Steam and want it to go down. According to most of you, PC doesn't count in system wars because it's not part of "the big three" lol.

It's going to be Destiny: Fallout Edition.

First they'll say it is to control cheaters, then comes the monetizing of modifications. Though mods on The Elder Scrolls Online are still free, so there's still hope.

Yeah, Fallout 4 had no soul. I know that sounds lame, but when I played it I just felt "meh" about it.

I still enjoy Fallout well enough to hope for the best in this title, but I don't know the signs don't look good...

its likely a console focused title anyway

It's going to be Destiny: Fallout Edition.

First they'll say it is to control cheaters, then comes the monetizing of modifications. Though mods on The Elder Scrolls Online are still free, so there's still hope.

for many years the gaming industry had a huge untapped market.

'Gamers who like to game but dont like Fallout or Destiny.'...basically

Steam fills that gap in ways that has never happened before.

So to tap into that market of gamers who want a game like Space Engineers is a real thing

Weird since it's THE platform for unfinished, buggy games.

It's an online game with the cap set at console quality so the best you can expect is a reskinned Destiny which was already 10 years behind and had less content than WoW in 2005
