EXTREME DESPERATION: Ubisoft sends you a mail if you purchased FC6 and don't play it enough.

This dev keeps on giving. The desperation from Ubisoft is simply on another level.

"GamesIndustry.biz Managing Editor Brendan Sinclair first pointed this out in an email he received from Ubisoft, showing Far Cry 6's main protagonist, Anton Castillo, looking at him directly in the eyes. The message that came with the email was, "It was amusing watching you fail."

"Hola, Rojas. I wanted to thank you for giving me free rein in Yara. Take it easy, and know that Yara is in capable hands," the message continues. This is referencing the game's main character, Dani Rojas, and their fight for the country of Yara.

Further down, the message says, "Surely you can do better than this," with it ending with Sinclair's playtime in bold, showing that he only played three hours of Far Cry 6."

Well, that's an "innovative" way to increase that engagement every live service games keep banging on and on about; nag you by email to play it more.

Oh I can imagine it; a room full of Ubisoft executives being told to come up with "new ideas," only for crickets to chirp as they stare blankly at each other for about six hours, until somebody goes "I know, let's nag people to play our games more!" At which point, the room just shrugs and wraps up the meeting so they can go grab some baguettes.

The fate for this game for me was sealed when I got Far Cry 3 Classic for $10 on the XB1 and realized the game still has horrific audio issues that have never been fixed since launch which was years ago. I still play the Xbox 360 version over this one because it doesn't have those issues and the BC capabilities of the Series S|X really clean it up visually. Worst yet is Ubisoft support who basically want me to flip ever setting on my Xbox and do a factory reset and uninstall and reinstall and everything accept let the customer tell them something is wrong with the game. Well, that settles it.

I even tried watching some Twitch streams just to see if I could change my mind and even then this shit looked bland. I will get it maybe if I see it for $20 will all its DLC down the road.

Anyhow, curious, is stuff like getting hassled by publishers going to be the new norm now that the Apple Epic lawsuit basically lets publishers steer around platform holders to solicit the players directly?

I'm still not sure how they would get my email. I never gave it to them. Is MS and Sony giving it to them from my sign-in on Live and PSN SEN?

Pretty sure you must have an Ubishit account for them to send you a mail. So if you had Uplay, you're fucked.

Through some sort of reverse psychology?

"I wasn't gonna do it but Ubisoft said I suck... I'll show them" XD

That's one way to do it I guess. :-P

This is really lame.

There's a difference between collecting data--which I know a lot of different places do--and then using that data for their various purposes.

If Ubisoft took this information and said "Wow, a few hundred thousand people really just can't be bothered to play our game, maybe we should do something different next time!" that'd be fine.

But no, they take the low road and send them an email to remind them (some might say bully them) to play more. Ubisoft needs us to pad their stats, make them look more popular than they really are.

Jesus WTF is wrong with this company?

Yup, cancelling my Uplay or Uconnect or whatever they call it account.

Bye Ubisoft, good luck turning everything you have into a Battle Royale game. It hasn't worked yet but maybe you'll get it right with....Settlers?

Meh. Hardly a big deal in my opinion. I check my email regularly. If it’s something that interests me I read it, if not I delete it and move on. Takes me no more then a second or two to make that decision. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah I know and it's not really as big a deal as I make it out to be, but as they say "if you give them an inch, they'll take a mile" so I like to flip out disproportionately so they regret taking that inch.

Literally everyone in any professional industry to communicate externally from their organization. I'm not saying it's a great communication protocol - there are plenty of issues with it.

What do you do for work? How do you communicate with potential clients? How do you exchange purchase orders or invoices?

How can you run a business in the modern age without email? I'm very curious to hear what you think.

Don't be too surpised. Not too long ago they were paying $10 in mtx for playing their crappy BR game i can't even recall the name off of. Ubi is creating garbage, and then begs you to play it. I can only imagine what we'll see when all their freshly announced titles (which were all heavily down voted on youtube btw) come out. And you might need to install Malwarebytes when their live service asscreed comes out, because you know damn well they'll be spamming you with mails and possibly even phone calls🤣

Ubisoft has been complete ass for years in a lot of much worse ways, and you all get mad by an email? Haven't you guys signed up for shit and then had to unsubscribe to whatever newsletter they want to shove down your throat? I have about a hundred times. Not sure how this isn't the same.

Their games are a much worse offence than this.

I hardly think this is an issue really, it's a little bit of fun and somewhat entertaining marketing.

I haven't received any emails from Ubisoft, I have been playing it for an hour or so most nights.
