every time some dev features a thing like this it is always the same.

400 billion 98% similar randomly generated levels (or planets or maps or dungeons or whatever).

I'd take a good procedural generated content over hand made any day.

Many games are better with random maps, obviously not everything is random but a set of pre-made assets and a rule set is used to generate something is a good idea. I can almost guarantee 99% of games that are open world use a map generator with hand made stuff sprinkled on top. If everything was designed by hand it would take a stupid number of man hours to make a game people would say is big enough and not too small.

I hope this game is like freelancer which is the best space game made to date, don't care if it's a total accurate sim I just want something that's fun to play,

@edwardecl

Well when it comes to Rockstar and Bethesda... Its usually just wasted space..... It lacks meaningfull variety or density or both, emphasis on the word "meaningfull" based on my experience with Mass Effects Exploration. Procedural Generation most definately cannot create anything worth paying attention to. Its specialty is mass generation of unrepeated or repeated crap.... Games can make use of it but they can't depend on it. Its the Fibonacci sequence of videogames...... Useless at an Infintite Scale.

You can already get a procedurally generated, no loading screen simulation of the entire universe in 800mb with Space Engine, so it's no surprise they can generate 400 billion systems, if true

I gotta try that some time. It sounds so cool. My inner geek astronomer would love it.
