DriveClub the most photorealistic game ever

First of all this thread is all about graphics and visuals, so save yourself a few seconds if you intend to derail since we have threads for those.

Now I've never came across a video game that convinces the real world elements so well in terms of lighting, density of the environment, modelling and scale. Especially the lighting. With Evolution's own dynamic GI solution, a complex physically based rendering system and meticulously crafted game world at the highest density level, DriveClub has truly delivered a real time experience that really separates itself from the rest. games like The Order or Uncharted 4 look batshit insane but they remind me of CGI whilst DC is on a pure photorealism approach thus taking my vote as the most photorealistic game ever. It makes Forza Horizon 2 look like a cartoon in comparison.

What's even more frightening tho is the yet to be added weather patch, one could easily imagine it would spearhead DC to even higher state.

Some parts of the game look great, others could be described as mediocre at best. All of which smack of an unfinished product... but we all know...

So it's worth highlighting you have cherry picking the good ones.

This is good though because it also demonstrates that graphics have no correlation to the actual enjoyment of a game and will go a long way to putting he nail in the system wars coffin regarding power differences because it's increasingly obvious this means jack shit in the end product.

@scottpsfan14: no you don't have to go out of your way much at all really. And the fact remains that most people feel even the good bits are worse than the PR bullshots which adds to dissatisfaction.

Visually it's still right up there (at times) but technically advanced would be the wrong choice if word IMHO, there is a lot of tech that goes into mechanics etc and that simply isn't in driveclub.

It's a bit like the idea of sleeping with the corpse of a dead supermodel

There is no need to go to such lengths to prove anything. The game is a disappointment, both in terms of playability and visuals.

It may be, it may not, but as a game it seems it's terrible. So none of that really matters.

Came for the visuals, stayed for the lemming tears.

I think I'm going to go buy this today. The gametrailers review was brought up in a different thread and the review was really well done.

Anyways, the lighting in this game from what I have seen is the best out there. You can really see the amount of time spent on getting it right. People seem to miss the little things that really make it stand out. It may have a lower res texture here or there but the overall quality of the image is very very nice.

If I want to look at photorealistic pics of cars, I'll look at actual photos of cars.

If I want to play a racing game, it won't be 5club I choose.

Disagree. The overall environments look great, especially in certain lights/atmosphereic effects, but the close up details are muddy, terrain object detail isn't super high, LoDing is not the greatest, and there is noticeable aliasing in the distance.

I'm mostly enjoying the game (starting to see some issues with rubber-banding and generally shitty AI), and the graphics are mostly good, but they are kind of inconsistent.

There is also some pop_in in the distance. Something Forza Horizon 2 never does. Yes, the game looks descent, but is seriously flawed with issues. Console graphic king, it's not. So good graphic, poor overall game.

I'm really impressed by the graphics of this game. It's like the Oculus Rift, you have to try it yourself to understand how special and different it is.

There is this uncanny lighting engine that, for lack of a better term, gives photorealistic volume and weight to cars, road fences, sign posts, etc...

The feeling reminded me of when Riddick 1 first introduced full scene shadows (i.e. no pre-baked light maps) running on the original xbox at the end of its lifecycle.

The lighting on Riddick made everything feel uncanny as it added this realistic volume to objects especially when coupled with the normal mapping technique that was employed in its engine back then.

My advice for whomever has reservations about this game because of the score is to try the free version / demo. Even if you don't like racing games, experiencing the graphics alone is well worth your time.

So Lems didn't even want to HYPE FH2? Interesting, thanks for the tip. BX4 said it was AAA on LOCK only to AA FLOP. A tale of 2 lems it seems. :D
