What condition? Being the number one selling console in the world? Makes no sense mate.

Yes. The NX is going to be a major failure and the 3ds is dead in the west. They are no longer a video game developer. Only thing they can make is toys.

Yeah, they do, though to their credit, they managed to make even a rotten apple like the Wii U work.

My hope is that they will take into account everything they did wrong with the Wii U (and yes, the 3DS) for their future systems, in order to avoid their failures again.

I love Nintendo. Only gripe is Wii U is overpriced.

They goofed with their console, but their handhelds have been on point. Hopefully they NX is a turn-around for Nintendo, as there's no denying they can make quality games.

Yes. Nintendo makes fantastic games, but their management has been out of touch for ages. Bad decision after bad decision has led them to this slump.

For screwing up on advertising, going mobile, weak hardware and behind internet functions? Yes. Though what sucks even worse is that some people want to exploit their downed state for a fate MUCH worse, because hey, SEGA and Atari did (even in name only, which is still just as bad) so why not add one more.

for starters they have made a mess of the wiiu.

With the wii there was a clear message. its a simple, accessible gaming system that anyone can pick up and play and boy did it work. people saw it in action and understud it. nintendo understud it and had the games to back it up. it captured peoples imagination.

with the wiiu it's completely the opposite. they have a tablet controller because....... Here are the games made by nintendo which make excellent use of the tablet (or at least try to justify its existence)....... (only ubisoft and, to a lesser extent, platinum, took a good crack at it). its the PS3 all over again (we cant give you a good reason as to why multiplats look worse on the more powerful consoles but....teh cell...teh hidden power. please buy our console). the wiiu is not even designed to support nintendos business strategies (hey we want to sell stuff directly to you...but you need to buy your own HDD and it must be a powered one).

compare that to the PS4....its the most powerful console on the market for the same money as its nearest competitor and you can play all your favourite games on it. simples. MS fell into the same trap as nintendo with the TV tuner and all that....no good reason so they are getting slapped around for their troubles.

with the 3DS, frankly nintendo are very lucky on that front. they came too late to cash in on 3D and they made a complete mess of the launch. if sony didnt shoot the vita in the back nintendo may have had something to think about. what is clear is that they wont get away with it again especially with mobile devices encroaching on that space.

so yes they deserve a kicking. this is not a "oh they should copy sony and MS" thing because doing so will very quickly wipe nintendo out. but they need to have a proper plan about what the console will do and how will nintendos games exploit it?

The simple truth is that they've ran out of room for their old strategies, and their go-to solutions will no longer cut it. They played all their cards and forgot to leave room for the possibility of this outcome. Their market has realized what they're doing and it's not going to cut it anymore. Their best option is to lay low for a while and like someone said, become 3rd party developers. Sony should hop in there and buy them out maybe and they should both merge and drive Microsoft out of the market...that'll be EPIC. Nintendo has no where to run. The handheld market has been stolen by mobile gaming and the 3ds is about the only thing they have going for now but even that's going to run dry. No one knows wtf they're going to do.

Yes they deserve it, unless they have a top order shake up inside their company, it will continue to go like this. I haven't seen one advertisement in the open for Xenoblade Chronicles X, that is the easiest game in the world to advertise but nope, nothing. Just slap the box art on advertisement boards through out cities and BAM!! people will buy the Wiiu for that game. I bet no one outside of the hardcore even knows it exists, Nintendo don't even know their own market anymore, they have been left behind, stuck in the early 90's.

They will still never come, even with all them put together, phones, tablets, PCs, etc, 3DS still dominates the market. Its amazing how such a small company can still destroy its competition with ease. NX has a chance of being even bigger when people grow tired of the phones and tablets and want something fresh.

Not sure if you even read the articles but its pretty obvious that the future for the handheld market is looking pretty dark, the 3DS has done very well given the circumstances but just looking at the sheer numbers of the DS vs 3DS (The DS coming out during a time when mobile didn't dominate our lives) the losses are pretty clear.

Yes. Even though right now Wii U's still the best console this gen, they've been digging this hole for 2 generations now.

Maybe, we'll have to wait and see. But if it does fail, I can see Nintendo going down a Sega-esque slope.

Even if NX struggles, Nintendo will just release another. As long as they are making money like Wii U does, they will continue to produce. Nintendo is not Sega, they dont lose money on consoles.

The problem with the wii u is the price and the lack of 3rd party games.Otherwise the console is really good.Nintendo has the best quality games out there.What NX needs is 3rd party support.

Sorry, but advertising ANY game like that hardly gets anywhere. When I was in the UK, I have seen billboards for Nintendo games in major stores like ASDA (before they dropped it) and even on high streets, hell, they even had some commercials on channels like Kerrang! (a rock and roll music video channel that features many genres or rock from bands like Metallica, Fall Out Boy, Guns and Roses, you name it) and to this day, Nintendo still doesn't make a dent in the UK. So no, it's not as easy to advertise like you think it is.

The 2 to 3 year gap between the last quality, non shovel ware wii game and the launch of the wii u, hurt.

Few games available at launch, hurt.

Not demonstrating why it needed an outdated touch screen, hurt.

Refusing to aid third parties that we're having problems developing for the system, hurt.

Nintendo's 6+ months of droughts, because Nintendo had no idea how to make 720p or better games, hurt.

Refusing to drop the price, and producing a Black Friday bundle, even after everyone had written the system off as a dismal failure, hurt.

Rumors of a new system that will be released earlier than expected, hurt.

The extra $40 I have to pay to get a decent amount of storage, essentially making the system the same price as a ps4, hurts.

The fact the system is still $300, is killing it.

Sony should offer Nintendo a deal, where they can bring their flagship games to the PS4 and publish for free, making sure sony makes no profit aside from selling PS4s and nintendo gets all the income from them...that will destroy microsoft completely.

Its not outdated, stylus touch screens are high class. Ask Samsung Note.

Never heard of Nintendo refusing to aid third parties, Nintendo works with many third parties including Namco Bandi, Platinum Games, etc.

Had nothing to do with Nintendo not knowing how to do HD, in order to not have 6+ month droughts they had to space their games out since third party abandoned the system when their games wouldnt sell consoles.

Nintendo did drop the price, they went from $350 to $299. Plus to not make retailers mad, they have been selling it used for $199. Black Friday Bundle was an awesome move, cant wait to hear the numbers.

We have no release date for NX, maybe this was expected, maybe Wii U was to force Sony and Microsoft to release a console early since people were claiming PS3 and Xbox 360 were 10 year consoles.

This is a problem for all the consoles if you go digital. But at least with Wii U you can use old external hard-drives.

Sure would have, Sony would have robbed Nintendo blind. The giant corporation tried to take advantage of the small guys and got played.

Yes. They deserve their predicament, because for the past two generations they have been relying on a gimmick to sell their under-powered hardware. With the Wii they were lucky the motion controlls became a fad - they did not actually support that control scheme - most of the content was shovelware trash - and actually even some of Nintendo's AAA franchises have been done "on the cheap" for years now (not that there is anything wrong with that). There were a few really great games from Nintendo 1st party - but that was mostly despite the hardware, not because of it.

With Wii-U, the market wisened up and rightly rejected the Wii-U from the point of it's conception. 3rd parties ran for the hills. Gamers laughed at it's weak specs which were truly a generation behind, now (in late 2015) they are pushing 2 generations behind.

Im not sure about that, Nintendo has never lost a console race. Every gen it has the top selling console. Also no company sells more software then Nintendo, they are undefeated their too. And Nintendo kicked Sony out of Japan, its homeland. Plus, they partnered with Samsung, who has been destroying Sony, causing them to lose billions in the entertainment business and forcing them to downsize majorly. Meanwhile, Nintendo continues to grow as a company.

I understand why they did it though, they weren't wrong about cartridges being superior. I wish games were on them now.
