Does it make more sense to get a ps4 pro than a ps5

The pro can be had pretty cheap nowadays, and you can install an SSD too, and keep the price down to maybe 1/3 of a ps5. On top of that, all the new ps5 games work on ps4 pro and look just as good. Is there a reason to get a ps5 now? I'm asking this because I have a ps5 but theres nothing worth playing except ps4 games. I could probably sell the ps5, get a pro, then get the ps5 slim in a couple of years

No, get a ps5 if you can. There's no reason to get a PS4 pro or not if you can afford the 5.

I haven't seen the Pro on shelves in almost a year. I haven't seen PS5 on shelves... ever. Good luck finding either.

I got PS5 digital to play PS4 games primarily. Its cheap enough.

ps5 can play all ps4 games with some games supporting upgrade. when you subscribe to ps plus, they gave you free 18 ps4 games and some nice free game with enhancement (like plague tale this month). i find it weird you even thinking of downgrading where you can do all ps4 does and better.

The SSD will barely help because of the SATA 2 bottleneck. It's just crap hardware.

@blaznwiipspman1: No. There is no reason to get a PS4 Pro with the PS5 out. Also, last gen consoles are hard to find sometimes now as well. There's an article I saw the other day talking about how hard it is to find last gen consoles now. Last summer I got a PS4 Pro and I had to call a lot of places to find a pawn shop that had one. No retail stores had them, not FB marketplace, just this one pawn shop that was 40 minutes away. Seems that they're still hard to find. If you're tempted to get a PS4 Pro, don't. Use the app Hot Stock and follow Wario64 on Twitter who posts when systems are restocked. There are other sources people use too. Check AntOnline and Sears too. Some retailers you've never heard of or never shop at are selling PS5's.

There's no reason to downgrade when you can get the exact same or, better experience on PS5.

I also doubt you'll want to play new PS4 games on PS5 when there are PS5 versions available.

well, my bro is moving out and taking it with him. Don't know when, its likely a month from now. Its a pain in the ass looking for a new one, and i'll never pay a dime to a scalper. Right now, all im playing is ps plus games anyways, so short term it wouldn't make a difference if i just get a ps4 pro, then wait it out for a slim ps5. Well, whatever, im not in a rush for now. I have my series X to keep me entertained.

Not really to any good effect. Testing has clearly shown virtually no benefit on base PS4 and only marginal benefits in PS4 Pro except in I think one case because the hard drive controller wasn't designed for anything better than a 5400rpm platter. Night and day worse than the PS5, as far as I can tell

I read that an SSD does help the ps4 pro. Its not going to be like the ps5 but it is a boost.

im surprised ps5 games dont work on ps4 pro. I mean, almost all the new MS games being released work on the xbox one, one x and the new consoles. Some of the games will struggle on the older consoles for the cream of the crop games like MSFS or forza 5 because of the hardware, but at least MS is putting in the effort. Absolutely shameful of sony not to do the same, and funny how the cows just bend over for sony anyways.

From what ive seen so far, the games on ps4 pro look as good as the ps5. Just going by hardware, the ps4 pro is a 4tflop machine, and is on par with the xbox series s. And games on the xbox series s looks as good as the series x. I have all 3 so yeah. Xbox Series X is the strongest next gen console at the moment, so I don't see how you can say ps4 pro looks worse than ps5?

I would say maybe ... but in a couple of years they will drop any support for PS4 so no more new games ... if anything, it should be worth it to wait fo the Slim version.

I would prefer just to get a PS5 myself. But only if I can be lucky to get one at MSRP. I am in no rush though, probably won't get one as I really am not driven to but the allure of getting one because they are so hard to find kind of has a pull I might not be able to resist.

Charging $400 for a system that had A LOT of trouble running everything in 30fps, is not an upgrade, its "gimme an additional $400, kiddo", so throughout the whole generation, instead of spending $400 on a system, you spent $800 to play in sub 30fps🤣Big meme.

Only if there is a vast price disparity (as in, a sub $100 PS4 Pro). The added benefits of having the PS5 far outweigh the MSRP cost difference.

Couldn't you use that same logic for xsx. I mean at least ps5 has 2 games you can't play on ps4 soon to be 3 with the medium.

Since you already have an XSX, selling your PS5 to pick up a PS4 pro on the cheap wouldn't be a bad move if you can use the cash.

Hear me out. The PS5 still sells for a premium on ebay so you can get a good chunk of money for selling yours. The PS5 is a crap system because it's a huge monster ugly box that overheats on the memory, doesn't have VRR yet as well as many other growing pains.

You could sell it, make a ton of money off of idiots and then a couple of years later you can buy the slim PS5 which will have all the quirks ironed out, will not overheat, will be much smaller and look nicer and will have VRR. Maybe it will even have a Game Pass equivalent but don't count on that.

In the meantime you can enjoy your XSX which is already better and more feature rich than the PS5 slim will be in 2 years. It has Game Pass already and I don't have to tell you how amazing that is.

The PS5 has no games so the obvious choice is the Pro. Plus why buy an amateur console when you can buy a professional? Logic.

got a PC and switch too, plenty of backlog, no reason to rush an upgrade. plus Ps5 base model is pretty big and ugly. Honestly i think im going to get a series x instead of PS5 when i decide to upgrade.

Nah, the PS4 pros have ridiculously loud fans even after you clean them. I would just get a PS5 and play on the PS games on it.

@sargentd: I'm thinking of going that route...this ps5 business being out of stock everywhere, not to mention the design looking like a damn building, and then the non stop scalpers. On the other hand, I'm not happy about going for a last gen console even as a stop gap, because I'll likely sell it once the ps5 slim comes out and end up losing who knows, maybe $200.

I guess instead of going for a ps4 pro, I could just pick up a base ps4, or a ps4 slim for cheap and just accept the dated graphics. I'd lose a lot less going that route

@blaznwiipspman1: Base ps4 is fine, the pro isnt even that much of a difference, you can find a ps4 slim used pretty cheap for under $150 or so. plenty of games on it, I just snagged my little cousin one 2 months ago, i still play on mine. its sleek little system that gets done what i need.

Yeah series X looks great, i still have my 360 and og Xbox games as well and ive been using gamepass on PC. Honestly when it comes down to it, i care more about Halo than a ratchet and clank game or returnal.

The SP games like spiderman and persona 5 are cool but it just doesn't beat Halo for me. Haven't been all that impressed by Sonys first party too many 3rd person SP story. Might sound cliché but ill take Halo, Gears, Forza any day. Never bought the xbox one, only went ps4 in the first place because Xbox burned bridges launching the Xbox one with the online only and kinect crap.
