As most of us know, the Wii U had horrible online functionality. But I actually didn't even care about the lack of features though, I cared about stable gameplay. Super Smash Bros had such horrible lag at times, it ruined the experience for me. If Switch can give me stable performance I'll be happy. But there's also the question of whether there will be any worthwhile online games to begin with for the console. Splatoon was a good first step, but too simple and too kiddy imo. Devils Third looked like it would have promising multiplayer at first but it flopped hard. What are your expectations for Switch's online, SW? Will it evolve? Will we at last get a decent experience this time around?

I know it will be functional enough for what I need it to do. Been playing monster hunter online for years flawlessly on the 3ds. I expect the same performance on the switch.

If it is as stable as the 3DS', then I would definitely have high hopes for the Switch.

Yeah, I hope all their online games work good. As you say, Smash Bros was unplayable online. I had zero problems with Splatoon or Mario Kart 8, though. Smash online without lag would be great fun. And now the online costs, so all games better work.

Given Nintendo's track record with online gaming, it's best to keep expectations low.

I'm very excited that they said that they will be making NES and SNES games playable online though. Hopefully they will also make N64 games playable online as well. My dream is to be able to play Mario Kart 64 online!

This be the truth. Splatoon and MK8 were flawless online. Smash Bros...a complete laggy mess in my experience.

$26 bucks a year better give us 1)More online capable games. 2)Way better online play with zero lag. 3) MORE ONLINE CAPABLE GAMES.

Fortunately, almost all of what I expect to play on it won't have online, or at least I'm not interested in it. Sure, there'll be online for games like Splatoon, Super Smash Bros, and Mario Kart, and I'll dabble in it, but beyond that it'll mostly be a single player portable experience I'm after.

Lets wait and see how MK8D performs and then we can have somewhat of an idea.

Honestly? No.

and Wii U's online wasn't any more horrible then Xbox Live and PSN. The Sad thing about The Switch's online currently is that it's quality is the same as Wii U's and that's a bit depressing, since we now will have to pay for it.

Go ahead and play Bomberman and Fast Racing Online. They're eh.

Smash 4 wasn't terribly laggy if you stuck with 1v1 fir glory, which is what I pretty much stuck with for that game. But yeah going to anything else could get pretty bad. Mario Kart 7 and 8 were alright IIRC; they had some laggy matches here and there, but matches otherwise were mostly okay. was actually pretty great and I could count the game's that lagged or disconnected on one hand.

In terms of performance I'm not too concerned about Switch's online, and I can live with the price point for it. What I'm kind of iffy about is features for the service or how they'll handle the eShop.

I have almost zero expectations for their online functionality. The only game I played online for the Wii U was Mario Kart and it worked well enough. I didn't buy the Wii U for online multiplayer and if I buy the Switch, it also won't be for online multiplayer.

Given the weak wi fi signal, they're already off to a bad start.

As long as it's better then the Wii U then it should be fine. There's really only a few online games that I'm interested in though. Mario Kart, Smash Bros., and Monster Hunter are about it right now unless other games like Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, etc. offer some kind of online features. The Splatoon games don't interest me so those are out.

My concern is that Nintendo aren't ready for a subscription service.

They put very little effort into the online service for previous home and handheld consoles. At least Sony used the PS3 period to gradually improve their service, Nintendo did nothing.

You can't charge for the sake of it, you'd better be damn sure you can offer a service that matches your competitors.

Nintendo and online features? LOL. It will be worse than old original regular X Box Live that we all got over a decade ago.

No, we will be paying for the same lag fest with bare minimum features.
