Because I do. The NES, SNES and 64 were all straightforward, awesome consoles, albeit I personally did not mess with the 64 too much, as the original Playstation dominated me around that time. And I'm not saying that their later consoles did not have good games, or were not good consoles in and of themselves, but they were.....weird. The GameCube was subtly weird, but the Wii and Wii U were full blown weird. I won't go so far as to say "gimmicky", as that smacks of hating, but nonetheless I wish Nintendo would just make a standard, non-avant-garde machine again. I mean, the games could still be classic Nintendo style, but do we really need all this motion capture crap, controllers that are like portable televisions, or, now, a console that is basically a transformer? Gen after gen they are getting more absurd with their design choices. It's like Nintendo thinks they have to create hardware that looks and operates like it was conceived of in a fever dream to succeed. I just don't find any of it necessary. It's the games that matter imo, not exotic hardware design.

Anyway, venting a little. What do you think?

Yep, because I shouldn't have to pay an extra $70 for a controller that should come in box. As for the unique gameplay, other than Rodea, Galaxy 1 & 2, Skyward Sword, and Metroid Prime Trilogy, the Wii had a whole lot of nothing that took advantage of the controller. Then there's the Wii U tablet which was so wasted, that not even Nintendo's first party took any real advantage of it.

I'm just glad they are going back to a more traditional controller design as the primary input for tv mode.

That's really the main thing that bugged me with the Wii and Wii U. Primary controller designs that really only worked well for a select number of games. But then again, Nintendo lagging behind OS and online software/infrastructure. Was probably a bigger annoyance.

I think this is the closest thing to that to be honest. Ideally I'd like them to be able to take their fleet of studios, and become a bitchin third party pub. Because their big franchises like Mario, Zelda, Smash, Mario Kart, etc would make a fucking killing on the other 3 machines. I'm not all that fond of taking chances on Nintendo's consoles. Although with the ubiquity of the other 3 machines, I actually get more out of the Nintendo console as a side bitch than the PS4 and Xbox, combined.

Yep well put OP. I loved the GameCube. Great controller, excellent library of games that included big multiplats. Literally nothing I could complain about with that console with the exception that I played my first one so much it died. I liked the SNES and N64 too. Don't really care much for the new Nintendo.

No. You have two other practically identical options to fill that demand.

Also, exotic? Since when is "portability" and gyro/motion as extra features considered something out of a fever dream? Is this 2004? Every mobile device has these things!

^ Straightforward, classic home console type setup, straight out of the box. I dont get this thread

Nope, I am glad Nintendo is focusing on innovation rather than straight carbon copy of Microsoft and Sony. I am glad the Switch is portable and it will be a standard in the future of gaming. As processors and chips get smaller and more powerful this will be the norm in the coming future. The Switch has a lot of potential to be a success and I am glad Nintendo is taking the right steps to do so(no region locking, sharing pics/videos caught by the Joy camera on social media and motion control). I am very excited for the motion control integration into the Joy controllers since I missed the Wii era of motion control gaming. It seems they aren't abandoning what made the Wii a success hardware sell wise. It just needs to grab the attention of all audiences including hardcore gamers. The future looks bright for the Nintendo Switch.

I wish they would make games for PC. However, since Nintendo is a greedy and controlling company (like Sony), that is not likely to happen anytime soon. So, they force us to buy their shit hardware to get access to their games. It would be nice if they had a more powerful traditional console as I am not much for gimmicks. That way they could make their first party games of a higher quality.

I don't mind the idea behind the Switch, but the reliance on mobile tech really holds it back and the form factor makes a Pro controller pretty much mandatory for a traditional console experience. This all makes it a very expensive console with very little power. That said... I already have it pre-ordered because the Zelda Fever has taken over. hehe :)

I would agree but i think Nintendo's only prob is not chasing the ps/xb fanbase.

I seem to be the only person in the world that realizes that the creative direction of the company is too different to be compared to both ps and xb

No different than the redundant kings that try to compare pc to consoles.

How hard is to realize that alot ppl rather a sedcluded gaming environment with the players under one bubble instead of literally a million.

Or that ppl drive lambo stock with no more than a rim change. If everyone was a pc player that lambo would prolly be able to fish while you park near a river (mod insult lol) then 28 other mods that you take the shop and buss your head with every few years.

Point is tho Nintendo isnt targeting the hardcore. Disney cant have a adult swim like programing becuase there fanbase cater to the non violent youth to much.

Fox which owns cartoon network doesnt have a cartoon land like disney etc so it can afford to have a adult swim atmosphere

Nintendo simply has to much parents that would be let down and desorted if they properly went for ps4s and xbs fanbase.

To much of risk if you think about it. Cant have your kids clicking on to much mature games when they type Nintendo on youtube

If they make a proper console and all the third party jump aboard, there will be no reason to buy the other two (unless Sony isn't lazy and stop delaying everything they have). Especially true when compared to Microsoft and their console with no purpose.

No, the hybrid design was a necessity. If Nintendo made a standard console they'd still lack western AAA third party support anyways, it would have been a total waste. Having one system too means I don't have to buy a console and handheld later. It means their development efforts won't be split between two devices with two different audiences. It also means that the third party Japanese games that typically come to handhelds can now also be played on a TV. Overall, considering how things were going for Nintendo on both 3DS and Wii U in terms of sales and support, I think this move is absolutely crucial.

But iandizion713 speaks the truth. Both Sony/MS has lost there innovation ways of gaming. We don't need a 3rd powerful console on the market as it is and I just want Nintendo to do there own thing which makes them unique then anyone else.

Well they did make a normal console...you're telling PS4 controllers don't have motion control?...them joycons motion control are optional..devs can use it if they want to..if they don't then they don't have to. Did they show Zelda BotW having to use motion control sword slashing like Skyward Sword??...nope...so its optional...its not force upon like it did on Wii. :P The things this thread brought up are all because Nintendo provided more options?..that ice shaking thing is to represent the new rumble system they have...you're telling me PS4 controllers/XboxOne controllers no longer vibrate??... :P

The problem is, when you implement a gimmick per se. As a core integral feature on a game system. If the gimmick does not catch on. You have a Wii U situation where Nintendo had to prematurely kill the system. Fortunately this time around, docking the system may in my opinion. Be the most important feature.

In the event people don't want to be carrying around the Switch. Which I totally see happening for a number of reasons. It can still function as a home console. And the split controller multiplayer feature, which I can see being underutilized in the future. Still can return to its traditional controller form. The real test will be if people are still interested in Nintendo consoles. After how the Wii and Wii U disenfranchised core gamers. And the latter, was easily the console hardest hit by the rising casual mobile market.

Nope. We don't need three consoles that are nearly identical. They should come up with gimmicks as long as they can, then go third party if that stops working.
