Poll Do you consider Crash "up there with the greats"? (57 votes)

ye 30%
ne 67%

So,Crash Bandicoot has been very divisive. I see some people claim it's one of the best platformers ever, and others declare it a big pile of shit.

Gamespot gave it a poor review, but the reviewer didn't even finish any of the games, as has been famously pointed out by comedian by so-so youtube critic Donk-e.

Is this game truly one of the unsung greats? Or is terrible as people say? Are the people who say it bad just poser assholes, like pricks who wear shades in doors or pretentious film students who try to bring up Akira Kurosawa and obscure black-and-white foreign shit to show how special a human-bean they are?

I ask because I was going to buy it. But opinions are mixed, and only System Wars can really respected.

It’s a decent game. Not among the greats but certainly not a pile of shit either.

Not really "up there with the greats" but they're fun platformers worth it to play for people who likes such games.

It's Naughty Dog's best work by far.

Ghost is the most hardcore, manliest manly man gaming on SW.

As a mascot? Probably one of the most recognizable figures in gaming.

The games? Not really, though the first couple were superb.

I prefer Crash to alot of other 3d platformers.

I like that it's more of an obstacle course compared to the more open (cough... boring) ones

I like the Crash games. They're pretty old school. Fun to play with friends and pass the controller. The remakes are top-notch as well.

It's no Spyro, though.

I would say that they are good games but I wouldn’t really put them up there as one of the “greats”.

@ghosts4ever: I don't think today's gamers know what a movie game is. Last time I checked having cutscenes does not make a game a movie game. Being a game based off a popular movie has always been what a movie game is. The cutscenes in regular games are there own and don't come from some movie or TV show.

less gameplay and more cutscene with QTE after QTE is certainly a movie game.

@ghosts4ever: it's the price we pay for higher pixel count.these games could easily have a decent balance between story and gameplay but today's developers haven't mastered that. Honestly cutscenes story telling should be left to rpgs

Crash is the best Platformer of the PS1/N64 era. He was always better than the overrated Mario 64.

Those PS1 games and the Remastered collection are awesome.

Games are horrible to play today, 3d depth perception is horrible resulting in many unnecessary deaths, animation is not smooth enough meaning changing your line of run seems to take longer than it should - resulting in more unnecessary deaths, every secret level up until the bridge you can walk onto, the bridge you have to jump onto the platform but the gap is hidden behind a bridge support - another unnecessary death and one that puts you at the mid way point of an extremely frustrating level.

The other 2 games are better but the first game made me return it. I had heaps of fun with them on the Ps1, they have not aged well.

i remember when the ps1 first came out. i tried it at toys r us. they also had mario 64 there oh and tomb raider. I was like "this shit sucks ass compared to mario" ps1 gonna flop.

but hey. all the sony players bought it and made it popular because they were kids or thats all they had.

imo they are just ok.

They were fun but I feel like it's one of those childhood games people disproportionately let nostalgia take to extremely high regard.

@ajstyles: Conker’s Bad Fur Day, Banjo Kazooie, Tooie, DK64, Mario 64, Spyro, Rayman 2...Crash is bottom tier compared to those games lol.

I think historically its as important as games like SM64 and Tomb Raider, but as far as gameplay....probably not top tier, I'd rather stake claim in Abe's Odyssey or Spyro if we were going to make a debate.

I think SM64 is over-rated in sense people downplay how impactful Tomb Raider and Crash were, and make it seem world revolves around Nintendo.

The first Crash on PS1 was the best platformer on that machine. The most polished, the best looking, and the gameplay was well thought out and flawless.

So, the first Crash is on my top 100 games of all time.

Sadly other Crash games have been plain mediocre, and have not had the magic that first game had. And I've played them all...

So, first Crash, classic, the rest, not so much!

Crash has always been a poor man’s Mario rip off. The platforming has always been less than Mario 2D and the Kart racers have always been less than Mario Kart. Did Crash ever go 3D? Probably, and I’m sure it was less than Mario 64.
