Do you buy games knowing you won’t play them right away?

I’ve been guilty of this for a long time. I tend to buy games and support them right when they come out. Lately I’ve been pulling back on that and focusing on the backlog. But I do get that itch sometimes to get a game right away and I’m sure I will do it again soon lol. What about you, SW? Do you buy games knowing you won’t play them right away?

Yeah sometimes. I prefer to get my games on physical format so sometimes I’ll buy them right away if I think that they’ll be harder to find later or if I want the Collector’s Edition.

I don't feel guilty about it but I do so when there is a really good sale on a game I was going to play eventually. Not at full price no. Unless I get in a situation like above ^ but that has never happened to me.

Yep Monster Hunter World is my latest example of that, but I am working 55hrs+ a week and have a family, so I do have a good excuse.

Only if it is a really good deal. Otherwise, I can get it cheaper later when I am ready to play it.

I do it all the time,I saw zeldas link between world's went to 20, haven't even opened it in 2 weeks cus I picked up rocket league and Rayman legends on a sale. I'll get to it eventually but rocket league kinda has me hooked, I regret sleeping on rocket league. But to be honest the only games I bought new this year was monster Hunter and fighter z, most of my purchases are sales and backlogs. I

I don't remember which was the last game I played instantly after getting it.

Nope. Depends on my research, rental or discount sales.

If it's a game I really want to play, I buy them on launch day and play them asap to the end, whenever that takes.

I work full time, have a family, as well as a healthy social life. I don't squander money on games I don't plan on playing right away.

Yeah, guess that's why my backlog is so big. Like I bought Blue Reflection sometime shortly after it released, but I didn't get into it until this month.

Yes, but generally only when a really good sale comes along and I do intend to play it at some point in near future... but what I intend to do and what actually happens don't always work out.

All the time. I overestimate how much time I have to play them most of the time, and they just sit there for ages.

Not any more. That is something I told myself to improve on this year. The games I have bought (The Darkness 2, HZD) I have either beat or are working on right now. With how quickly games drop in price, there is no point buying them at launch unless you know you will start the game immediately. As for sales, I have approached them cautiously this year aha.

Absolutely. Monster Hunter world has been waiting for me to really dig into.

@shellcase86: Exactly. Time is short, time is precious and time is money. I’m assuming most people here aren’t at that stage in their life where they have settled yet.

I'm guilty of the same, but I don't mind it because im supporting ideas or developers. I bought Ni No Kuni 2 and Kingdom Come Deliverance day one and they are still unopened, but I want those original ideas to be supported, because if they aren't then the game industry will turn into the movie or music industry. Lacking in original ideas because of an over reliance on what sells and not making a quality product.

Might even be a few others. My son tears them all up as soon as they get home. I tend to play 1 to 3 Online games and 1 single player game at a time so my single player games tend to stack up. I should be done with Fallout 4 soon.

Before I settled down and re-prioritized my time, I had the same hoarder/gotta buy'em all mindset that many here exhibit.

Quite the opposite actually. Because I have settled I have money to waste. Much, much more than in my teenage years. I buy games because I can. I assume you people have horrible jobs.

There's plenty of games I haven't played yet on my X1. All my games are digital,meaning already installed on my hardrive.

It's now universally the case with respect to almost all my purchases. Very few games do I schedule to play right away upon purchase, plus the amount of games I get from my Humble and PS+ subs winds up creating a ballooning backlog of astronomical proportions.

More often than not I begin a game, progress somewhere between 10%-20%, then set it aside in favor of completing something else.

How stupid. Just wait. Within 90 days most are at reduced price, unless you are talking about the masterpieces Nintendo regularly pumps out.

Not unless the game is free or very cheap. Even then I usually don't.

I do it all the time, Steam, g2a and Humble Bundle services keep my coming back for more all the time lol.

The only time I feel bad about buying games I don't play right away are when I forget I bought the game in the first place and find it just sitting in my shelf.

Considering my backlog of over 1k games, yeah, I did this a lot. I don't do it that much anymore though.

Only at xmas... Sometimes I buy 3 games at Xmas knowing that they will probably get me to summer.
