Uh-oh, the Sony censorship row has re-erupted – and this time it involves a big-name game, rather than a niche Japanese visual novel. Fans have noticed that in Devil May Cry 5 there are additional lens flares in the PlayStation 4 version of the game, obscuring a shot of Trish’s derriere. Interestingly, the light rays are not present in the Xbox One or PC versions of the game – nor are they included in the NTSC version either.

It looks like Sony has changed their policy. All nudity is forbidden on PS4 now. Even an inch of buttcrack results in censorship. I'm playing the PC version and Trish's booty is definitely not censored. Lady's was, and that's true of all versions. But Sony ordered Capcom to censor Trish's booty as well at the last minute to protect the children of it's more sensitive audience. Sony did justice for the PS4 gamers!

That's actually hilarious. I'm generally against censorship. Unless something is completely over the top then the "big 3" should have no input whatsoever on such a thing. I'm sure there's some extreme example where I could perhaps be understanding, but this isn't even close.

I think you are missing the point.

Capcom designed this game as it was. It should be played/viewed as Capcom intended it, not as some corporate suit at Sony deems appropriate (i'd really like to know who at Sony demanded this, like what is this person's job?). Don't need outside forces coming in and telling everybody what is "safe" to play, or worse yet, to order certain cuts or changes. I'm sure this game has an M label, that means such censoring should not be necessary.

What's next, is Sony going to go in and blur out random scenes in R-rated movies that are sold on PSN? Where does this stupidity end?

The problem is with the controversy is there is no transparency. We do not know what person or what entity at Sony or even Capcom is responsible for the censorship. Since we are dealing with private companies and not government entities (which requires transparancy), we may never know the answer.

Good call by Sony. The chance of seeing a digital butt really put me off buying DMC5, but now that Sony censored it for me I can summon the courage to buy a copy.
