You can install games onto the hard drive. If you install all your games you will never get the disc scratched while playing. So if your xbox 360 slim is in a place likely to bump the system then you should install your games.

Excellent solution, and 250GB of space is large enough :)You can install games onto the hard drive. If you install all your games you will never get the disc scratched while playing. So if your xbox 360 slim is in a place likely to bump the system then you should install your games.

It's an added feature which benefits the user. It's not like there's a risk everytime that I have my 360 on, that a disc will be ate. But if a user is in a location where they think it's likely to be knocked (the main argument against it), then install. I install a lot of my games, just for the sake of it - a lot of them run faster/better too.Having to install games so they don't run the risk of being destroyed should not be the reason for installing them in the first place.

I thought having to install your games is bad?
Disc scratching shouldn't be an issue because your system shouldn't scratch your discs, not because there's a workaround.
Additionally, anyone who is dumb enough to move around anything with an optical drive while the disc is spinning deserves to lose the disc.
It is if it's a mandatory install on a console just to play a game/demo. If it's an added OPTION then no. I agree with your last point though.I thought having to install your games is bad?

so if I don't install it to my HDD I lose $60... that's seems like a big hardware problemKevinButlerVPNo, you lose £40/$60 if you're stupid enough to throw the console around whilst it's on.

hmm, well this guy just had to bump it not throw it around

Here's a solution I've been toying around with. It's a little crazy, but I think it has real potential:
Don't move your console while it's on, don't put it in high-traffic areas, and if your console is in an area where it could be knocked over, place it horizontally.
I know, mind blowing. Engineering University just called to offer me tenure.

Well then he has the option of installing it, if he's likely to bump it.[QUOTE="1stPlaceWinner"]so now installs are goodRavensmashNon-mandatory ones, yes - as they provide another option. if you don't wan't to lose your game...

Then you have the option of installing it. What's your point? You can also place the console in a better location too. This isn't some widespread epidemic, the only stuff I've heard about it on here is people doing it themselves to prove a point. Over-exaggeration, as usual.
....for the third time in the thread :P If it's optional, then how is it a bad thing? If it's mandatory, then of course it can be viewed as a negative! So game installs is a good thing now :) but only when its on 360:P

hmmm, while i think disc scratching isn't an issue at all ... i think ur solution is silly :? ....... as far as i know disc scratching happens when the console is moved while playing a game ... so the more simple, real and practical solution is NOT TO move it while playing. If the x360 natively scratches discs then all i can do is feeling bad for its owners. You can install games onto the hard drive. If you install all your games you will never get the disc scratched while playing. So if your xbox 360 slim is in a place likely to bump the system then you should install your games.

the disc does NOT spin while it's installed...so if it's not moving then if you bump it (which you should in the first place and if you do, your fault don't blame MS) then nothing will happen

Theres always a chance that a stupid friend or younger brother will bump up against your system. the idea is ... you shouldnt have to worry about that.
the idea is...it shouldn't be bumpable at all
put it in a better location and not out in the open
you know what your right, im wrong. you should have to worry about things like that.[QUOTE="Guppy507"]Who the hell moves their console around when it's running? :?FIipModeCould be accidental. A console is a $300 investment, why would you NOT take precautions to protect it? :?

I know its not bad thing, I prefer to install my games if option is available. Mandatory installs are viewed negative when it comes to bashing PS3 games by some, thats why I found this thread amusing. Majority of PC games have mandatory installs but I hardly ever hear PC fanboy complaining about wasting 5 minutes of their life on installation:). I am sure many PC and console gamers alike view mandatory "insert or change disc to play" negative and annoying as well.

[QUOTE="fun-da-mental"]Yes because when you install on the 360 you can play the game even if the cd isn't inside can't say the same for the ps3.So game installs is a good thing now :) but only when its on 360:P

Nope, pretty sure the 360 still needs to verify the disk.

My car cost thousands of dollars, and I take care of it.
Doesn't mean that everyone else on the road is driving safely.

You can still play it with no cd inside though.Anyone thinking the disc scratching is ONLY caused from a moved 360 is wrong.

It's funny that in 1984 Sony made the "Discman" in which one was able to, carry, walk, and even run with this portable CD player and not have the disc get scratched, yet in 2010, Microsoft can't seem to get it right.
It's ok to install the non-mandatory installs to prevent your 360 from scratching up your disks? Oh the hypocrisy.
This reminds me of the time when people actually claim the arcade model is a sensible gaming choice because it's cheap and you don't need the HDD space anyways.
BUT TEH INFERIOR PS3 INSTALLS D=. The tides have really turned. =/It's ok to install the non-mandatory installs to prevent your 360 from scratching up your disks? Oh the hypocrisy.

[QUOTE="treedoor"]Technically, scratching disks is a nonissue for anyone but the most careless or lacking of common sense. The only time it does that is if you move it while in operation. And I mean, like, really move it. A bump isn't going to do it. Wrong. Check my links a few post back.Having to install games so they don't run the risk of being destroyed should not be the reason for installing them in the first place.
AncientDozer
Wrong. Check my links a few post back.zero_snake99I don't think many people will take those videos seriously. They are not exactly an example of profesionalism.

thats what i think i mean the PS3 does it but thats cause its a hardware limitation and its been dying out as of late on most games cant think of any games this year i bought with installs now.
I really dont see why even in the first placea console should be scratching disks its just shoddy imho and even worse is that people with xbox 360's are now justifying installs but yet criticized the PS3 for its hardware for needing them...talk bout calling the kettle black eh?
[QUOTE="zero_snake99"]Wrong. Check my links a few post back.IronBassI don't think many people will take those videos seriously. They are not exactly an example of professionalism. ....what? Both are consumer shows, so they have to have some form of credibility. They both conducted tests, and both showed results in a matter of hours. There is nothing to debate, the build quality of the Xbox 360 is poor. Plain and simple. They show that it's not properly built, and there is no denying it. What's NOT professional is Microsoft outright denying it, and whats funny is that people completely ignore it and blame the consumer and NOT the product. It's ALWAYS the user's fault isn't it...
