Did Elden Ring just bury Horizon Forbidden West?

Seems Horizon Forbidden West did not quite meet the expectations which was to be greater than its predecessor. The general sentiment seems that it has improved upon some aspects while getting worse in others (story mainly).

Elden Ring is destroying reviews and might end up the highest rated game since RDR2, maybe even BOTW, though unlike the former, it'll actually be good.

With that said, did Elden Ring bury Horizon? Will its success negatively impact the sales and perception of it?

Yea, I really don't get people who are trying to take out their frustrations against a successful game 😄 As a PS5 user I get to play both luckily 😉

It kind of just buried everything this year. I don't see any challengers for it unless by some miracle BOTW 2 releases this year (yeah right).

Yep. Fromsoft's just got a better formula than the garbage-ass Ubisoft method that Horizon copies. Who'd have thought going out of your way and playing a game and exploring on your own would trump quest icons, markers, synchronization points, boring-ass NPCs, handholding, and whatever other crap that Horizon game has?

Played the first and that was it for me. Boring combat, Aloy is a boring protagonist, boring story, just pretty nice graphics.

I can't wait for tomorrow.

Good to know if it's worth playing, but I will still wait to finish Dying Light 2 first.

Although they share some things in common I wouldn't say it will negatively affect it.

Here's what I'll say about those 2 games. Elden Ring is targeting for those who loves FromSoftware Soul games and HFW is for those who wants an action-adventure game that is target different gamers who only wants similar to open-world adventure types.

Both games will be just fine, HFW will be just fine despite Elden Ring is getting massive praises. It's the other yet to be release games I'm more worry about like Forsepoken will be destroyed by both HFW & Elden Ring combined.

I have a feeling both will do quite well.

Whats with the weird takes with SW lately. Doesn't fromsoft actually sit nicely on everybody's camp. So called hardcore gamers and the reviewers they hate all love fromsoft. I mean am I the only one who thought it was always going to be this way. Reviews Elden RIng > Horizon. Sales the other way or maybe this time fromsoft will break the bank. I mean its supprising reviewers did not give the new horizon a pass. Some people were convinced it was going to happen. Is it really hard to believe that it is Elden Ring that is the popular child here. Mind you I myself think its probably the better game.

I mean, Elden Ring hadn't seen an update on its development for 2 years and there were articles about that to drum up hype. Lots and lots of people were waiting for this game to come out. I didn't see that level of anticipation for Horizon so it kinda makes sense why it is so much more popular.

HFW's only crime was that it isn't called Zelda.

Bad news for PC gamers though:

With my rig, I’m able to reach 55-60 fps while playingElden Ringat the maximum preset (with only motion blur disabled). This is on a 4K display, mind you. Also, keep in mind that, likeSekirobefore it,Elden Ringiscapped at 60 fps on PC. However, there is a very important caveat: micro stutters and framerate drops happen periodically.

Forbidden West is better than Zero Dawn in every way.

If BotW didn't bury Zero Dawn then Elden Ring won't bury Forbidden West.

It's true. I questioned Sony releasing Horizon Forbidden West in the same month a while ago.It could have waited a month or two. Why needlessly put it up against other big games.

They had like a 6 month dry period and were getting memed on, they had to put something out in the Q1 release window.

While that's also true, it's about maximising sales/profit too. I just don't think it was a good idea to do this.

Sony has 3 big AAA games this year and has 12 months to spread them out in. Would you have chosen the same month as Elden Ring?

There is no way this won't impact Horizon in one way or another. Even for those that buy both, they'll only be playing one at a time.

It makes no sense imo to do this to your own platform in the early months of the year.

yeah but price wise er is not far off 50% cheaper than forbidden west on ps5. that's a factor

It was always the more hyped game. But I think Horizon: Forbidden West will do well.

the original Horizon sold 20 million copies so I agree that Forbidden West will probably be in that ball park. Not sure what the last Souls game sold.

The Entire Franchise sold around 27 million copies I last checked. Dark Souls 1-3 that is. With the 3rd entry selling over 10 million copies as of 2020.

HFW, apart from another Sony game with a girl character that looks like a dude, sucks and is for casuals.

Elden Ring, is for true gamers.

Critically Elden Ring is getting higher reviews. It may be the better game. They're hard to compare since they are nothing alike.

Horizon will easily outsell Elden Ring though by a lot.

LOL at either game getting buried. Both great games. Enjoy them... after patches of course.

Gureilla have never been that great imo, they have some amazing technical and artistic wizards but every other aspect of their games have been mediocre to bad.

Horizon: FW will sell well and probably win some best graphic awards at the end of the year. It's a good game but nobody thought it would hold a candle to Elden ring which will be a genre defining game of the generation.
