This is pretty cool.

Everspace 2 developer and Rockfish Games CEO Michael Schade talks Xbox Game Pass

"Even the Playstation fans are getting a better game on PS5 because of the deal with Game Pass." says Schade.

https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/xbox/everspace-2-developer-and-rockfish-games-ceo-michael-schade-talks-xbox-game-pass

A lot of people ask me 'So you probably sold less copies on steam' because we are on Game Pass on PC and, to be frank, I couldn't see any dip. So, at least if you do PC Game Pass, it did not hurt sales. I'd say right now it is one of the best—if not THE best—deal in the industry, especially for indies like us because it enables us to work on more smaller genres, more niche genres. They're more special. It gets us visibility; it gets us extra funding and it's the perfect combination. We're still independent!

Michael Schade, Rockfish Games CEO

It's maximum flexibility, extra funding, and you just make a better game. Everybody's happy. Even everybody who is not on Game Pass is getting a better game. Even the Playstation fans get a better game on PS5 because of the deal with Game Pass.

Michael Schade, Rockfish Games CEO

What say you fellow SW friends? Are you surprised at how successful Game Pass is turning out? I mean, who would have predicted it would impact PlayStation? Chime in below!

@kvallyx: of course they're happy. When MS takes hits in lost sales and billions of dollars in short term revenue / profit because of gamepass, then the ones benefiting are consumers and the indies.

There is probably some long term goal for MS here. Gamepass investment seems to be very important for MS...though I don't understand why that is myself.

It's important for MS because Game Pass has been profitable almost since day one. They like to make money.

It warms my heart to hear things like this from game developers:

"I'd say right now it is one of the best—if not THE best—deal in the industry"

As a gamer, I am all for great developer support and gives me hope for the future of gaming.

@blaznwiipspman1: really don’t see them losing money with gamepass if you do the math, they’re looking at at least $250 million a month, at least 1 billion every quarter. That’s a lot of money just from gamepass.

Salty posts that developers actually like GamePass and what it provides them, standing in contrast to your preferred (negative) narrative?

I am shocked.

Yea, more funding for overglorified indie crap. What game is he actually talking about? There is no new game, only old and years in early access. Until the end of this year around 14k games will be released on Steam. 14.000 to add to the pile of shit.

PCF is one of the biggest devs to include their game day one on the service. Their early “success” was paraded around this board as proof that Game Pass was good for big 3rd party games. But since the game hasn’t made a profit in years, we have to ignore its existence on Game Pass…

But PCF had no control over the deal that was made with Gamepass, people tend to forget that every contract was been negotiated and is different. But regardless of that situation, it was still on so many platforms.

It sounds like SE handled the publishing side very badly. Would the story you need for this argument not be "Outriders performed well on everything apart from Xbox and Gamepass" if Gamepass was to be at fault?

@slimdogmilionar: they're definitely losing money. I don't know where you're getting 250 million per month from, but I doubt thats even accurate. Theres so many loop holes and tricks to get gamepass only for $3/month, for ex the xbox gold to gpu conversion trick. Even if it is real, you have to think about the development costs of games, which can easily run into 100's of millions. Halo Infinite had a budget of $500 million. Theres a bunch of other games that are also in the hundreds of millions.

They only bought bethesda because of GP, and AB also because of GP. There would have been zero reason to buy either of these developers if not for that subscription gaming plan.

Starfield will hit MS pretty darn hard. Sales will be pathetic, and this is where they'll begin thinking twice to add their big boy titles on gp day one.

The game sales on PS produced a measurable amount of revenue. The Game Pass revenue is like being paid in sunshine and rainbows… Nobody knows what or where the money is… We’ll except Square…

lol @ still talking about Outriders..

a title that was available on basically every platform yet, according to the Golden Alt, it's a failure purely because of Game Pass.. heck, Outriders wasn't even originally available on PC Game Pass.. and this is even with the fact that Outriders debuted at the same spot on NPD for both PlayStation and Xbox despite being available on Game Pass..

Outriders is literally the worst example that can be used and yet here we are again.. all in a thread where yet another developer is praising Game Pass.. 🙄

when it comes to "the savior of SW", the damage control over Game Pass knows no bounds.. 🤣🤡

It’s been how long, and dude still remembers his fanboy lines from the Outriders defense script. Lol. We went from “3.5 million users thanks to Game Pass” to and “same position on NPD” to finding out over 80% of those users were on Xbox… Then the script flipped to “lol Outriders”… But Antwan remembers the lines from the old script like it was 2021.

Again, another indie dev thankful for additional funding. They even said it in the article… Vs dozens of others speaking on the negative financial impact of bigger games on the service. Even Xbox execs have said it… Bethesda staff in the leaked emails have had an issue with day one. And on and on and on… But please, Everspace 2 dev said… 👍🏾

Commercially, it's clear that different games perform differently.. This is just a simple fact, both at retail and/or via subscription services..

This crusade to paint Game Pass in a bad light despite the actual devs who utilize the service praising it and, more importantly, the actual customers who utilize the service praising it is plain sad at this point..

It reeks of desperation.. The type of desperation that can only come from a Golden "Savior of SW" who's now on his 3rd account here.. 🤣🤡

@ghostofgolden: Jebus, you're weird AF dude.

The game is available on a bunch of platforms and failed to turn a profit, yet due to your bizarre obsession with Xbox and Microsoft - which by the way, already made you bet and lose your previous account - you see this as something to hold against Gamepass. You're one of those cases I just can't tell if you like to play dumb or you're in fact simply too obsessed to make any sense. You like to say stupid stuff just for trolling?

@ghostofgolden: Bruh, Outriders not turning a profit isn’t the fault of Game Pass. Blame Square Enix for that one, as they really poisoned the well with Marvel’s Avengers to the point that nobody was willing to give Outriders or Guardians of the Galaxy a chance due to both games also being published by Squeenix.

The streaming bubble is going to burst with movies/shows very soon. The SAG/AFTRA strike is putting a HUGE spotlight on how little money is made through these services. Studios want their stuff back in theaters, Disney putting future content back in theaters and delaying Disney+ releases. And now we see actors making $20 (yes twenty) from residuals for YEARS of work… Streaming/subscriptions were a scam. Anyone with basic understanding of math should have seen this coming. But folks like some on this board were blinded by the “value.” And Phil pushed all his chips in for game subscriptions and streaming just as things started going south.

Nintendo holding fast and PlayStation halfassing their approach will pay off real big real soon. Xbox’s saving grace is Microsoft’s deep pockets. But these subscription services across all entertainment are gonna start looking VERY different in the future.

wow, that's a ripe combination of hopium and copium right there .. ☝️

"b bu but you guys just wait, you'll see!!1! 😭"..

meanwhile, Game Pass is already profitable for Microsoft/Xbox at 10~15% of total revenue.. that simple fact really throws a wrench in all this doom and gloom forecasting...

and all this coming from the guy that already lost his account over his Game Pass "predictions".. 🤣🤡

Say 27 million members pay 1 dollar average per month

27 million per month = 324 million per year.

We know the average monthly payment is a lot more than 1 dollar so lets say 3 dollars =972 million per year, and we know the average user pays more than 3 dollars per month, then there is game sales on top of that.

The moral of the story is let trillion dollar companies worry about their finances and enjoy the greatness of gamepass, you are a gamer not an accountant.

@saint-george: no sir, you have to be "concerned" about the financials of a multi-Trillion dollar company..

It doesn't matter how much "value" you enjoy from their products and services, what's most important is whether or not they are making more money than the other multi-Billion dollar companies..

The "Savior of System Wars" has spoketh.. Yet, i wonder how the narrative will change with all the additional Xbox revenue coming in after ABK.. 🤔😏 I mean, they are already generating more revenue than Nintendo.. So according to "Revenue Wars", doesn't that make Xbox 2nd and Nintendo 3rd?.. Nintendo has a "losing" strategy?.. Nintendo is doomed?..

It's hard to keep track when the goal posts and narratives change with every failed argument..

Regarding narratives, there isn't many avenues left for the sony fanpeople, but you know it will be cringworthy whatever bile is spilled 😁

@silentchief: apparently great for major third party developers as they keep piling their games on the service and bringing them back.

so what big third party games are on gamepass day one? if its so great then both ps plau and gamepass third party games be on there day one. gamepasss and ps plus are for indie games.

If they were profitable, they’d be parading the profit margins around every quarter like Nintendo and PlayStation do.
