Movie games have been going strong for most of this gen. I am surprised you are surprised.

I am currently fighting to play through Shadow of Tomb Raider with all of those freaking cutscenes routinely interrupting my gameplay.

Quantic Dream games sell good, considering they are niche titles. It's actually quite impressive to be honest.

Still haven't played it, not paying $80 for an 8 hour game. At this price point I'll consider it though!

Good for them. I still don't have enough interest in it to spend $60 on this game. There are other titles I'd much rather play right now like Dragon Quest XI, Yakuza series, or even a shooter like Farcry 5 tbh

Such a garbage studio. What's funny to me are the morons who think this is the same type of game as Uncharted 4. Where UC4 actually has gameplay.

Detroit: Become Human is an excellent game I enjoy, the characters are all excellent to play as too, story is satisfying, love the multiple endings you get as well. Make sense it'll do well on sales, it's just really an intriguing game if you are a fan of sci-fi stuff like me.

Detroit: Become Human has the #AndroidLivesMatter movement which I find very interesting how you look at it.

@Pedro: what's sad are people that use the broad term " movie games" without having any clue about the games they criticize. Just because the game has cut scenes doesn't mean it's a movie game.

Something like DTH though could be classified as a movie game.

I can agree on that. However, some games that normally would not be in that category plays too close to that type of games. Movie games aren't bad, they just a problem in a game that is not supposed to be a movie game.

The term you are looking for is "Cinematic game" before it was called movie game which is a silly term using now.

A really good game from Quantic Dream that not many people talk about is indigo prophecy. I beat that game on the hardest difficulty without losing health which is really hard to do.

like i said, i feel bad for lems this gen because they have lowered the bar so low, that any game is good to them. btw I have gears of war 4 for the pc and it sucks. Luckily I got it free with my 1080ti

I found the parallels between robots and racial segregation to be deeply moving.

Humans are monsters. Although would a robot really need to sit? Or take a bus for that matter? They can probably run extremely fast without getting tired.

That's the key though, isn't it. He's targeted an under-served audience with a niche-styled product and the result is an almost review-proof game. Kojima's kind of the same in that way maybe: a sort of one-man brand.

I'm playing it right now and it's pretty good. I still don't like to call it a game; more of an interactive experience. But it's a pretty good story. To me this is one of those games you split between a couple friends and take turns.

Actually it was Sony who popularized that phrase by themselves marketing UC2 as a movie in their Kevin Butler ad, cows shifting the blame to other factions is hypocritical at best.

Lastly, no 'movie games' are not games with cutscenes or even long cutscenes but how the game design and game play is structured with player having little to no control over the outcome. That's just a cows DC move to label every game with cutscenes as movie games.

I didn't quite get the message that the game might not have been profitable to the developers. 2 million times 60$ equals 120$ million, how can that fail to be profitable?

Not everyone wants to play FPS & Action Adventures. The Interactive Stories are great for people that dont want to button mash, dont want to grind\level up like RPGs & dont enjoy the reactionary skill or racing and fighting games. The more genres the better Coolyfett thinks.

I just played a Real movie game on GamePass last night, not sure if it is on PS4 called The Late Shift. It really is a Movie! Real life actors and everything. It was actually a pretty OK movie.

There is a time and place for these kind of... I don't want to call them games but experiences. Kind of like choose your own adventure books when we were kids. (Even though we peeked ahead to get the best ending)

People who are young call them movie games.

There basically an evolution of point and click adventure games.

Or those comics/books where you choose your own adventure.

@JustPlainLucas: Personally I don't end up replaying these kinds of games. I enjoyed Heavy Rain, but I had no desire to go back when I finished. I just looked at other endings on YouTube.

I'm not knocking the game though, from what I've seen/heard, it looks like a good game!

Sony is the publisher meaning they pay the bills to get the game funded. They pay for development costs, resources, technology plus the marketing and distribution. The manufacturing of the game box and blu ray discs. There a lot of costs that go into developing the game and manufacturing the final product. Independent developers like Quantic Dream and Insomniac Games are probably under contract for a lump sum plus some sort of small incentive based on the units the game sells.

Not really surprised it sold.

Cows this gen have fallen in love with movie games, where you watch more than play. The PS4 is chock full of them.

Thank god I'm better than that.
