Dedicated Servers or Pixels. What is more important to you?

Remember when M$ said every game on X1 will be 1080p 60fps...

If they lied about that, what makes you think they'll actually be having dedicated severs for every game?

PS3 had way more dedicated games than the 360 had last gen, btw..

Dedicated servers. If you care about resolution buy a PC and buy all your games there.

There are a number of things I prefer over resolution especially when the visual difference people have been on about here is the example.

As a campaign gamer, I don't think I could care any less about dedicated servers.

If you care about pixels you would be playing on a PC!

Stating that it is 720p means no games run in a resolution higher than that. Which there are games that do, and you always seem to leave those out in hopes of winning your argument. Fail.

Pixels. I play way more singleplayer than I ever will multiplayer.

good question. I do most of my multiplayer gaming on PC now because a lot of my friends have gaming PCs (we're older, we have jobs, we like nice things) so its not that big an issue for me. Also while I still think XBL is the over all better and more stable service, so long as PSN doesn't have any of the fiascos it had this gen I don't think the online advantage is big enough to out weigh the other advantages over the xbone. I still think that their are more advantages the PS4 has over the xbone. Especially if you are a console only player. PS4 just makes the most sense unless you just have to play Halo and Forza.

You fail, because all these games have dedicated servers and that's exactly what I was pointing out.

They do have dedicated servers, just not in the traditional sense. Nonetheless, they are there and it isn't exactly a p2p infrastructure.

EDIT: Further clarification - P2P features a host player where most of the game logic is done then sent to other players directly (often giving that player the advantage). This features a host player where some of the game logic is done and is sent to a intermediary server, which handles the network traffic for players to send/receive, most of the game network logic is being done locally on each player's PS3's. Removes most of the host advantage and gives better game stability for those with slower connections than P2P.

Pixels. 720p blown up to 1080p is ugly.

PS4 has both, so I dont have to choose.

all launch games will use their own servers, so at least for now those M$ dedicated servers are pointless anyway.

BTW, COD Ghosts will be 1080p on PS4 and it will have dedicated servers. Deal with that. ;)

I have a 42" TV and I sit about 8 feet away from my TV therefore it is humanly impossible for my eyes to see any difference between 720p and 1080p, so resolution does not matter at all. I'm willing to bet that the majority of the people that are making a big deal about Xbox games being 720p have a TV size and sitting distance from TV that would make them barely able to the detect the difference between 720p and 1080p with their setup.

lets see whats more important to me. playing a dead franchise like halo on dedicated servers or saving $100. playing titanfall on pc/x360, utilising power of teh cloud of course, or having kinect in my living room. every game worth playing multiplayer wise will have dedicated servers so i think ill save $100 and choose 1080p thanks

Looks like lems will be touting this dedicated server thing for the next 6 or so years, seeing as every multiplat will be inferior on it :/

720p is fine for me, parity is going to be a bigger issue for me with frame rate and visual effects and physics, if those aspects can be matched then I'll be fine. The best online games will probably already use dedicated servers anyways, but dedicated servers might actually prove useful in helping smaller developers make responsive online games.

When it turns out that not all of Microsoft first party games use dedicated servers, the ownage is going to be massive, so why don't they just stop while they're ahead.

I think first party will but the whole "servers are available to everyone" will end up being false and only the big third party multiplayer games will use them.

Luckily Ps4 has both.

Killzone doesn't have dedicated servers. They have some hyprid p2p crap.

I'm going to laugh until I implode when it comes out that these "dedicated servers" are running all the azure stuff as well and that it's all just virtualized.

Dedicated servers have always been more of a preference than being straight up better. If you're not living in the US or UK, you might actually want to connect with players from your own region. Hooking up to a dedicated server might mean that you're connecting to a server from several continents away, and the latency will be at least 200ms. I would rather hook up with non-dedicated servers from my own country and get 10ms.
