US NPD SW - Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is the 3rd best-selling game of December, and finishes the year as the second best-selling title of 2018 in dollar sales. 2018 marks the 10th consecutive year that Call of Duty is the best-selling Video Game franchise of the year.

US NPD SW - Mario Kart 8 finishes 2018 as the second best-selling Racing game of all time, trailing only Mario Kart Wii in lifetime dollar sales.

US NPD SW - For the first time since 2009, Nintendo is the highest software revenue generating publisher of the year.

US NPD HW - Nintendo Switch generated the highest December month hardware dollar sales for a single platform since the Nintendo Wii in December 2009, and achieved the highest December unit sales for a single platform since December 2010.

US NPD HW - Nintendo Switch ends 2018 as the year's best-selling hardware platform in both units and dollars. Annual unit and dollar sales of Nintendo Switch are the highest annual total for any hardware platform since the PlayStation 4 in 2015.

US NPD HW - Console hardware unit and dollar sales reached their highest annual totals since 2009.

People buy big ticket items around Christmas. It's the time of year when people really open up their wallets. Over the rest of the year, price and budget take more of a priority.

So what this really shows, is that if given the chance to buy a console without price really being a factor... PS4 comes dead last.

It's good to see Nintendo back in action! Just got around to buying Octopath Traveler and the mega man x collection for my switch and looking forward to the days ahead!

Switch is definitely a hot product and the 3rd is only getting better when a bull run of titles will come out for it. It's looking like the Switch is outpacing PS4's second year sales.

It's difficult putting the switch in the home console bracket. I've always seen it as a handheld I thought the Wii u was the PS4 Xbox one gen console.

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention: PS4 has only sold more in a year than Switch did in 2018 one time in the US. There's a very strong chance that Switch will sell more in 2019 than PS4 has in any year, both in the US and overall worldwide (though not in PSland places like the UK).

Also, in terms of individual hardware SKUs, Neon Switch was on top for the year followed by NES Classic. I assume that the next 3 are SNES Classic, Gray Switch, and PS4 Slim, though there's no info on the exact order.

Everyone sold well last year though. The industry is booming.

Handhelds have always outsold consoles.
