What, what a momentous occasion. Sony was able to acquire Bungie in much shorter time than MS acquired Activision. Is the Activision deal going to happen in your eyes, SW? Or is there a chance it may not work out?

They said from the beginning the Acti deal was a much bigger deal and would take about a year to finalize. Sony buying Bungie is a much smaller deal.

I'm gonna laugh if the Bungie output is still better than Acti's though

Well the Activision-Blizzard/King deal is MUCH bigger so it’s hardly a surprise that it would take longer to finalize. I expect that it will go through as expected as well.

As for this Bungie acquisition I’m kind of “whatever” about it. While I did enjoy Destiny 1 and 2 when they first came out my interest in them never really lasted all that long. I’ll keep an eye on them to see what they produce next though.

This, “which deal is bigger” stuff is stupid. Who cares?

Folks are also downplaying the relevance Destiny 2 still has in gaming. There are more people playing Destiny 2 on Xbox than any of the Xbox ecosystem exclusives.

What we do know is, there are more people playing Xbox Game Studios' Minecraft on Xbox than are playing Destiny 2 on Xbox. If we look at how Gamespot has scored Destiny showing Bungie taking dumps:

Destiny 1: 6

Destiny 2: 8

Warmind: 6

Curse of Osiris: 5

The Dark Below: 6

Rise of Iron: 6

We also know that more people are playing Call of Duty than all of PS games combined, which is going to be an Xbox Game Studios game.

It's a fact. 3.8 billion dollars for a shit company that's going to do nothing but live service multiplats. They could have added an extra billion and bought Capcom or SquareEnix instead which would have been much better.

@x_hedon: That doesn’t change the fact that you called Destiny 2 a “dumpster fire,” which happens to have more current players than Xbox games you love to damage control for.

If Destiny 2 is a dumpster fire, what is Halo Infinite?

Probably, but I wasn't saying that. Then again, he mentioned "Xbox ecosystem" which includes Microsoft Windows PC.

I really hope Sony forces them to move away from Destiny. If this dev still has talent (looking at the art direction and music of Destiny, i think they still do), please stop wasting it on a shitty welfare mmo that they're incapable of supporting.

Nice job trying to make a sentence. What does Halo Infinite have to do with this, when they own Acti-Blizz and profit off of CoD?

This is a silly acquisition because Bungie will still retain their independence. Like, why would you buy a studio if you cannot take control of it? How does Sony benefit from this acquisition if Bungie can still have independence?

I've never been a fan of Halo at all and I've actually gotten into Destiny at times, so I would rather not have the rights to Halo... even though it doesn't matter either way since the games are staying multiplat. They took Bungie in to help with networking and setting up successful live service games. The question remains whether or not they have the ability to make a game that will actually make money in that area. Chasing games like Fortnite or CoD isn't going to cut it. People would rather play the original experience in most cases and cheap knockoffs feel exactly like what they are. They will have to prove themselves with games that feel original enough to create a following.

Call of duty hasn't destroyed sony yet, so why would MS owning call of duty all of sudden destroy Sony? Heck how can any game destroy any game console company. Halo INF has been losing players every single day, but the game isnt capable of destroying MS.

"Who cares" is not the point. An acquisition the size of Activision is going to take MUCH longer, it obviously must be approved at various stages.

Doesn't mean Bungie was worth 3.6 billion dollars because Destiny 2 is a "good" game. :-S

Bungie are not that good consistently, it's been ups and downs since Halo 3 which was their peak., and they really don't have a lot of ips. They just made a successful game series in Destiny.

The Bethesda deal and Activison deal also comes with a metric ton of ips and studios. I'm not sure Activision was worth what MS payed, but MS can afford that easy.

3.6 billion is already a poor deal for Sony, but the audacity of Bungie to dictate terms such as non-exclusivity as well.

Even reading that forbes article about what they both get out of the deal is lame.

No... I don't remember that. :-S

And how could it fall apart, it's not a big deal, no pun intended. Bungie in terms of what they're doing isn't that big. They're one company, maybe a few studios, but just focuses on one game and own barely any ips. They're kind of a drop in the ocean. Even if they had to go exclusive to Playstation, it wouldn't really impact anyone else or effect industry innovation in the slightest.

It's not really possible for that deal to fall apart. The only stand out thing about the deal is how much Sony spent.

@HalcyonScarlet: Which isn't much when you look at how many live services games they're planning on making and, how much each one could make.

The most important part is building them to be as successful as possible and, Bungie knows how to do the fundamentals as well as anyone in the industry.

@x_hedon: Elden Ring is the best selling game this year on Playstation, and by a lot.

Aside from being the best selling game this year, smashing COD sales, Elden Ring itself got most of its sales from PS4/PS5 users.

Nope.

While Elden Ring is expected to be 2022's best-selling individual game in the US, the Call of Duty series will be the best-selling franchise in 2022 for its 14th straight year, NPD reported. Elden Ring is already the best-selling game in the US of the past 12 months, outpacing even Call of Duty: Vanguard.

Yeah, there must have been cheaper options. The job of a corporation isn't just to maximise profits, but to efficiently spend money.

I don't get how a corporation like Sony couldn't have learned what they needed to more efficiently.

I guess one of the issues is that Sony gave up on multiplayer games after the PS3 gen.

Literally proves me correct. Did you even read that article, let alone the title? - and do you want to read my post again? Elden Ring outsold Vanguard on all platforms as well, and as that article says, Elden Ring will still have more success that MW2.

Also I want to lean further into the fact that most of Elden Ring's Sales are on Playstation, which is a reflection of the game's success, since PS4 is damn near ubiquitous.

Elden Ring is already the best-selling game in the US of the past 12 months, outpacing even Call of Duty: Vanguard.

I said COD. I didn’t say Vanguard 🤡

Oh and Elden Ring is selling huge on Xbox as well. Still top seller on Xbox.

@x_hedon: Elden Ring is the best selling game this year on Playstation, and by a lot.

Aside from being the best selling game this year, smashing COD sales, Elden Ring itself got most of its sales from PS4/PS5 users.

Nope.

Vanguard is COD! 🤣 -- and the article you cited projects that Elden Ring will still do better than MW2. Major red nose moment for you 🤡🤡🤡

- and to the point about Xbox, I specifically mentioned that it's the best seller this year on all platforms. It just got most of its sales from Playstation.

You've done a lot of mental kung-fu trying to argue with me only to support what I was saying about Elden Ring being the most successful game this year and trouncing COD. Either you are a glutton for punishment or you just have not been reading my posts.

So you are having a meltdown because according to NPD:

Call of Duty series will be the best-selling franchise in 2022 for its 14th straight year

It will be ok my friend. Don‘t lose your shit over video games.

@x_hedon: It's ok dude. You can still play Call of Duty games. I like them too.

Elden Ring outsold Call of Duty Vanguard and will outsell Modern Warfare 2 as well. You didn't need to embarrass yourself, kvally.

Looking forward to your next account suicide.

LOL selective much? Out of your way to conveniently leave out:

The Taken King: 8

Destiny 2: That got a 9, not an 8 btw

Destiny 2 - GameSpot

Forsaken: 8

Shadowkeep: 8

Beyond Light: 8

The Witch Queen (wich is the most recent expansion and Bungie at the top of their game): 9

Destiny 2 is one of the most played games in the world, love it or hate it. Forum dwellers like yourself are a very small minority. Destiny is a very successful franchise, more so than Halo is right now and thats a fact

You were just selective lol! And you are wrong. COD blows away Destiny, which is what we were talking about, not Halo 🤡

And Destiny 2 got an 8 not a 9.
