I think it will be 10/10 and GOTY.....as for putting all other open world games to shame? Yes but only as a sum of it's parts. The open world aspect won't reinvent the wheel or anything...but combined with every other aspect and polish the game brings....yes it will easily be the best.

Switch, Zelda and Logan all on March 3rd? Holy f*ck what a day that gonna be :D

If by set a new standard, you mean, simply meet the standard that has been set by dozens of other studios for generations, then, you're right. lol.

List the dozens of studios in question, please.

The game itself is basically a modernized version of Shadow of the Colossus.

Zelda and Mario Odyssey looks like Nintendo is on the path of the N64 in terms of revolutionary titles. It's about time I say.

Get over it, man. You HATE Nintendo and relish in their failures.

I think nintendo is onto something with all the mobility options you have in the open world. We will be horse riding, hang gliding, sKY diving, hook-shotting, mountain climbing (for real this time) and sand surfing to our hearts content.

This will play out very nicely in the open world format. I dont think we seen this kind of mobility mixed with open world before. Will make those other games feel slow. You won't even want to fast travel in this game.

It looks dope but I would put away the anointing oils at least until the game is released. The last two Zelda games didn't live up to expectations, and if I remember, the Wind Waker had plenty of lackluster filler in its "open world".

I know that Skyward Sword received high praise from critics but I think the game's post launch reputation isn't as glowing as it was upon initial release.

On the other hand, I feel like A Link Between World is generally widely received even now. The most common complaint I see is the game isn't challenging enough.

@jumpaction: Thats cause people fear motion controls. They hate what they dont understand. People were hating on it before it even released. Just look at its metacritic and how many people rated it 0's and 1's. The game use to be rated in yellow. Now its 7.9. The score just keeps rising.

Well, I guess that would be expecting a lot from Nintendo's first open world game. Maybe it's for the best if it's not to that extent as the main culprit of Bethesda's janky BS is probably largely the persistence in the game world.

I have seen motion controls as a partial complaint for Skyward Sword but generally, then complaints that stand out most are pacing, structure and hand-holding.

@jumpaction: Only complaint i have is the game is too long and features complex controls. But other then that, its one of my favorites and imo the most superior Zelda on almost all levels. I consider it a rare Masterpiece.

Sadly, I agree. Witcher set a great example for how open world games should be, and Zelda looks like it'll do the same. But the rest of the industry won't follow suite, they'll continue doing what they're already doing because it's cheaper and still sells.

@iandizion713: Wow really? I quite enjoyed Skyward Sword but it's the second worse 3D Zelda game, not because of the controls but the linearity of the world. Skyloft was amazing, but the sky itself is easily the most boring overworld in any Zelda game.

Glad you liked it. :)

I wasn't as fond of it myself but there were plenty of elements I did like. It's a shame because I feel the reputation it has, particularly with game design enthusiast, mean that the good parts the game brings to the table are overlooked.

@m_machine024:

The way in which anything the player manipulates in the game world remains exactly how they left it. For example I could take every tin can in the Mojave Wasteland of NV and put them all in one dumpster. They will remain in that dumpster through the entire duration of my playtime. The same idea applies to everything else in the game: your interactions with NPCs, dead body placement, gun/apparel condition etc all of those things remain unaltered until the player changes something. I've never played another game with that level of persistence.

It might not be a big deal to some but I think it really lends authenticity to the world's they create.

Ah ok!!!! Seriously that is cool!

With BotW tho, it would surprise me if it reached that level. Important stuff like making a brigde with a piece of metal, sure but details like persistent weapon drops placement? Or maybe persistent boulder rock placement? Wouldn't bet on it. :P When I get the game, I'll try to do a pile of boulder rock/metal object and see how it goes. haha

And subsequently expose pretenders like GTA V and Skyrim that hide shitty gameplay and boring quests behind a huge world with boring activities and in the case of Skyrim, boring NPC's. It'll be a true Zelda with no gimmicks and game design at the forefront of its priorities. No shit like Wii Motion Plus to make you forget you're playing a subpar game like Skyward Sword. Once you've played it, you'll wonder WTF you were playing and older open-world games will look like a bad joke. It'll be what open-world games were aspiring to be for the past 10 years.

You can all quote me on that.

Yeah it's a lot to expect from the Wii U's turd-poop CPU. It really wouldn't be a detriment to my enjoyment of the game as Zelda's open world design seems to be aiming for a very different experience, something more akin to a R*/Ubi game but with a heavy emphasis on physics ( and hopefully without all of the repetitive filler). It would really just be icing on the immersion cake.

By no means revolutionary, but I do like the fact that you can take on the last boss at the beginning of the game and skip the entire story. :)

If the rest of the game follows this thread, it should make for quite fresh approach to the structure.

Yeah, waking up to a trend rarely anybody, besides Rockstar (Red Dead), Bethesda (TES/Fallout since 3), Volition, and the late Radical Entertainment (Simpsons, Prototype), (maybe CDPR, but I never played their games, nor do I plan too), does any good with whenever it's used.

The last influential Nintendo game was in 2006. The last influential Sony game was in 2009. It's roughly the same amount of time since either made a hugely influential game. Nintendo took some down time with the Wii U. With the Switch, they look set to try and be ambitious again, if nothing else.

I'd disagree with that. The Galaxy games were (in my opinion) the perfection of the platforming genre. Well, as perfect as a game can feel (since nothing truly is perfect).

Why are we all pretending like this is Nintendo's first open world game.

Shit the original Zelda was open world.

Also, Nintendo may not always be the first to do something, but they usually do it in a superlative manner.
