Best FPS of this decade (from 2010-onwards) so far

Halo 5. Campaign wise it's nothing special. I just really enjoy multiplayer.

I'm starting to sound like a broken record. But.....my current favorite followed by my next current favorite. ;)

Gotta give kudos to Ubisoft for realizing the view from flying an aircraft is just like in an FPS except it's up in the sky. All three movement axis (XYZ) still applies. So, its controls are similar to each other (sky and ground). The most boneheaded is Rockstar's flight controls for the PC GTA V.

Certainly not Doom or Metro. COD is way better.

Halo 4 or 5 for me. One for the SP the other for MP. FC3 was amazing as well.

As of right now it looks like Halo 5 is top, with Doom and TitanFall 2 being tied for second.

If you're talking purely SP, probably go with Far Cry 4.

Although it suffers from the typical Ubisoft problem of throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. Gets boring before the end. But while it's fun, it's fun.

On that list I'd probably say far cry 3 was my favorite.

Looking at that list though is a reminder of tired the genre is. Nothing on it is a landmark game, just retreads in most cases.

The FPS I consistently have the most fun playing are the killing floor games. That would be my vote.

Battlefield 3. I haven't played Prey or Gunslinger but for the rest it's not really that close. It's the best pure shooter on that list apart Doom, but of course with better multi-player and quite a bit more content.

Edit: Why is Bad Company 2 not on that list? It's better than all of them and BF3?

I had a really, really good time w/ Rage. Yeah the story and ending was kind of "eh", especially that weak ending -- it had such a solid feel/weight to all the FPS elements that it was just a blast to play through.

Rage could have been good if it ignored all that open world shit and had more complex levels. Story? Who cares. You are man, shoot things; in that respect "bang bang", it worked well.

I always find it pointless to name a "best" when the market is so diverse. It's hard to compare titles like Battlefield, Doom, and Rising Storm, they just do things completely differently.

Doom's the best of the old-school, arcadey, FPSs. Its competition isn't super strong, but Serious Sam 3, Shadow Warrior series, and even Hard Reset were all pretty good games in that genre. Halo would loosely fall here.

Battlefield series seems to be the more agreed upon "best" combined arms, multiplayer shooter since 2010. Though which one is your preferred is debatable. Many would say BF3, some would say BF4, and few would say BF1 (I say BF1). There aren't many games in this genre. A strong contender here would be Planetside 2. There were a couple others over the years that never really took off. Halo falls here slightly.

Counter Strike GO dominated the small-scale, competitive market taking it from Call of Duty (yes Call of Duty doesn't directly compete against Battlefield no matter what the internet says. Combined arms games have their own market that is clearly separate from CoD given the sales of the two series.) Halo would also loosely fall here (Halo can't make up its mind of what it is).

Overwatch seems to have taken the crown from TF2 and be the leader of the whole "hero FPS" genre that we've seen emerge in the past few years.

Destiny seems to be the strongest RPG FPS against the Borderlands series.

Rising Storm 2 is probably the best of the sim-light multiplayer FPSs out there. Others would include Insurgency, the original Rising Storm, Day of Infamy, and Squad.

ArmA 3 seems to remain as the only true combined arms military sim on the market with no real competition.

I don't like to compare these different sub genres against each other. The differences are so stark it's impossible to compare.

you just describe Doom. Id software heavily improve after Rage. the only weak game id software has ever made.

Now I want Rage 2 to have no open world but complex level design.

In general, no issue with it being "open world" as long as it's interesting, which it clearly wasn't. When it play Stalker the game aspect dissipates after a while it feels like a living breathing place, where as in Rage you could feel the designers hand constantly. It was Mad Max with pillows.

Are the Deus Ex games classed as proper FPSs? If so, they'd definitely be up there for me.

But the Metro games, Halo 4 & Wolfenstein: TNO are the standouts for me.

Doom. It was probably the most fun I've had with an FPS since F.E.A.R.

Overwatch for me. Still play it to this day despite how much it raises my blood pressure sometimes.

Overwatch is tops for me, because I'm its whore. DOOM, Bioshock Infinite, and Metro 2033 Redux also rank highly; I've still yet to complete Prey but I enjoy it significantly.

Planetside 2 is still the best "massive combined arms" FPS, over the years it got surpassed in terms of sound design, terrain deformations, explodey structures etc but if you want to be in a crazy battle yet with at least some semblance of strategy and tactics, the Battlefield series still hasnt matched that (battlefield still really feels like Quake gameplay just with more players, vehicles and real world weapons).

You obviously never played Quake.

Bad Company 2 is the only right answer.

Yes i did, i was referring to that Battlefield games still feels more of a bigger arena shooter, the best times were B1942 and B2, where it at least feel a lot more deliberate, the newer ones feel more like trying to be like CoD.
