After looking forward to this game for over a year and playing countless hours of BF4 and BFH (and every BF game before those as well) I can honestly say that my first impression (3-4 hours early this morning) that I am very likely cancelling my fully paid off pre-order. This is a pile of crap (like Battlefront level crap).. sure, I don't like Conquest all that much, but Rush just DOESN'T work on that crap map in the beta, and feels like little more than an after thought. You just can't put the boxes out in the MIDDLE of the open where 10 snipers are shooting. This is little more than snipers and tanks, and I mean that 100%. Every match is just those two things in Rush (the mode is clearly not ready or had VERY LITTLE thought put into it working, and that is on the map they present it on....). I mean REALLY? That is the map they present? It's just a WIDE open desert with little to no cover and a couple buildings scattered here or there. I mean.. don't get me wrong, sure.. that is what they were going for. However, the extremely stiff controls (even at max), stiff run mechanic, and accelerated moving/aiming mechanics have REALLY dumbed this game down. This is just a Battlefront reskin and it's awful. You heard it here first... the game will be dead within a few months of launch and everyone will be waiting for BF5.
I am very sorry to say all this.. I could write a review based on what I have played, and honestly I am very disappointed. This is an "appeal to the masses" dumbed down shooter. Even for BF standards... I just hope that doesn't mean that everyone loves it. Just about everything feels wrong about this game so far. First impressions are 10 times worse than either 4 or Hardline... I am so disappointed. I have been waiting a long time to play a new shooter with my clan and the fresh take of WW1 in the gaming market was highly appealing to me and several others I know as well. Sure, I will wait and see if there are any one life game modes... but ugghhh.... painful. Already looking forward to the next shooter that grabs my interest (sad seeing as though I am the type of player to put hundreds or thousands of hours into a shooter I love), and another part of me wants to just move on from gaming (since this is so sickening)... it feels as though this is the way the industry is moving. Pathetic. I sure hope something changes my mind, because there is unlikely to be another military-esque shooter on the market for some time, and I'm no fan of CoD.. This is a cash grab with minimal effort type of game, and the flaws will shine through very quickly.
One last thing... WHY IN THE HELL CAN'T YOU TURN OFF THE IN GAME MUSIC. I mean it's REAAAALLLYYY (super cereal) cinematic to hear the same damn riff played 697 times BLARING out of my headphones or through my speakers, and not being able to hear ANYTHING else every time a point is taken, or the last couple minutes left or last 25 tickets in Rush, or the last few minutes in Conquest, or for just about any reason or completely random bs... I mean why? WHY? Why can't we just turn that shitty music off? It's really bad... completely grating and impossible to tune out. It wouldn't be so bad if it was something you could tune or turn off, but being forced to listen to it CONSTANTLY play is just horrible. It is really annoying and awful. Who wants to hear the same musical riff (like seriously 7-9 notes) play as loud as possible whenever you get down to 25 tickets in rush (start with 75 at each new set of points) or anytime it's a close game in Conquest? It's like crazy bad... everyone will see. Hell, I hope you all like it. Like I said, I really hope something changes my mind, because I am closer to deleting the beta then firing it back up, and this is coming from someone who was REALLY anticipating the release
Anyways, rant over for now. I just needed to get that out of my system. It just feels like a REALLY bad joke or that they are several months away from completion of this game and shouldn't be anywhere NEAR open beta which anymore is basically just a stress test/demo. So disappointed... I'm sure the people that will play it for 5 hours and never play it again will just love it though. For everyone else, I hope you are all vocal in letting them have it.
The map that is in the beta is one of, if not the worst map I have ever played on any shooter. I truly believe than any procedural made map would be a least five times better than this pile of horse excrement sorry excuse for a map. Biggest map ever? Sure it is... a HUGE wide open desert with.. nope, that's about it... wow... inspiring. It's like a paintball course without cover. Good luck moving by foot unless you stay in a small town sector and snipe which are ALL basically without capture points making them completely useless for the most part (I think there is one within a small town like setting, and 2 near ONE building).... The ONLY thing I am really liking is the melee system and charge with bayonets. That is fun, fresh, and a move in the right direction. One tiny step forward 12 steps back. Initial score? 6/10 for Conquest, and 2/10 for Rush. Rush just doesn't work on this map and in its current state is completely broken, but at least Conquest is good for those who like to use tanks. Which excludes me. This is the SOCOM 4 of BF. So grab your super "elite" class (aka bomb tech suit ala S4) and go to town!!! Nice to have anti tank weapons that do 6% damage to tanks.. that's right all of them do between 4% and 6% damage and you get between 3 and 5 to use. Meaning? One player can do a MAX amount of 30% damage to these super tanks that pretty much rule every single game you will play... but wait, it gets better... the people IN THE TANKS can now repair the tanks WITHOUT GETTING OUT, and they can repair them faster than you can damage them... One or two great tank drivers is all you need to win each and every game. All those lying ass youtubers and social media hyping this up... minimal effort.. maximum profit.. brilliant. It all makes since as to why they needed the likes of people like Snoop Dog now.
