Great sales all around. Hardware sales up 116%. Nothing wrong with that. Games sales are going to seriously increase come October and November.

Neither of those are exclusives though

August was a weak month overall but I feel September may be one of the strongest month this year. PS4 Destiny bundle, and Wii U Hyrule Warriors (it didn't sell very well in Japan though) will move lots and lots of units.

What we have here with PS4 is an inexorable situation. I think this is the final confirmation we needed to determine whether Sony will dominate this generation. It's down to who's going to win second place and what market share will the second place victor have. If it's 20% or below then holding second place may be as hollow as the original Xbox holding it.

There was no doubt that the Playstation 4 was going to be on top for August NPDs but the Xbox One couldn't even sell more copies of Madden? With a bundle?

No wonder Microsoft had to resort to desperation sales for September, this is getting embarrassing.

Why would you expect otherwise? PS4 install base is way larger.

Because of the Xbox One madden bundle? And the $400M Xbox One NFL deal? Clearly neither paid off for Microsoft.

It didn't. It might not have even cleared 60k this month.

That makes no sense. It is a popular series. Sony has a huge lead in install base. MS would have to sell massive numbers of bundles to make up for the shortfall in install base and that was obviously not going to happen any month, let alone August.

@Evo_nine: Pretty pathetic that you guys went from "X1 will dominate US" to "buh buh it's only 30k difference" how sad. X1 was basically $340 in August with the Madden bundle. I'm sure many buyers were waiting for the Destiny bundle as well. September will be an interesting month indeed. MS will look so bad loosing horribly after giving away free games lol.

Yeah man it's one sided as **** and I don't think it's going to change. MS with their non-existent 1st party and Nintendo with their weak sauce hardware, both being outsold with the latter in a pitiful position.

Meanwhile Sony with the best hardware, highest sales, both of which will keep 3rd parties coming with the best (console) versions of their games... plus a decent enough 1st party. I don't think Sony could **** this one up even if they tried.

How long can one game continue to sell systems? Nintendo's stupidity was in not following up MK8 with something, anything, right after. Instead, they waited until August to have a big name game launch, which completely squandered any momentum they might have built.
