Call Arms — Nintendo Switch’s premier fighting game — what you want, but you can’t call it lacking in creativity. The game’s next free update introduces a new playable character, the inflatable Lola Pop.

Lola Pop looks like a cross between a pop star and a walking balloon which isn’t us being judgmental; Nintendo describes her as a “street-performing pugilist” and a “well-traveled clown” in a press release. She’s all bright colors and inflatable limbs, with a color scheme reminiscent of candy. It helps that her debut trailer is set on Arms’ cookies- and candy-filled arena, which is also coming in the game’s new update.

We’re going to go hunt down some macarons now, thanks to Lola Pop. But first: Nintendo will usher in the new character with another Arms free trial. Switch owners can download the Global Testpunch app from the eShop to try out the game from this Friday, Aug. 25 at 8 a.m. PT until 2 p.m. PT on Sunday, Aug. 27. It’s the first time that Nintendo has given people a chance to check out Arms since just before it launched in June.

If you already have the game, keep an eye out for the Arms version three update, which will add Lola Pop into the ring. Just try not to actually pop her; she’s a balloon, after all.

this is the first character i actually like. she looks crazy man. i love clowns!

all the other characters were meh and boring imo..... i mean max brass was pretty cool but still not my style.

i was planning to pick up ARMS anyway...as soon as all the DLC and updates were done....might do it sooner now.

I can't wait to give the new character a try. :)

She looks mad!

The new stage looks very interesting too. The other stages are square, rectangle or circular. This one has a corner which makes it stand out.

The new glove types look very interesting too. The shield in particular looks like a good option for defensive players.

@jumpaction: Yeah, I think I'm most excited about the new ARM types.
The stage looks sweet as well, but nothing too exciting in terms of layout, and the character looks unique even though I'm not too fond of her design.

So you guys actually like this game? I'm usually a sucker for anything Nintendo, but I just don't see the appeal.

It's a very charming and addictive game actually, with really nice characters and quite a bit of underlying depth.
The problem is that it's just too shallow on content at the moment. They desperately need a proper story mode.

Cool character. And it's a good game it's just not for me. I tried playing it and I would need to practice a lot to be decent at this game and I don't want to.

I like the way they implemented the nunchuckies.

I go back and forth between Splatwoon and Arms. When I'm sick of one the other changes things up for me. I always say this, Arms is like a long lost Sega arcade game had been found and released on switch.

1.2 million so far. Not bad at all, but of course it won't sell as much as Splatoon 2 for example.

They had three post launch global testfires for Splatoon in the first year after its launch.

I only like the characters. Not to mention the idea is neat, but it runs its course so fast.

And there's ****-all to do.
