Why should they switch? It's a free service and there's more to do on it than just play online games. I think they'll survive.

The only thing I played online was UC2 co-op arena and did put a lot of hours into it. Though I own an XBOX 360 I haven't even gone onto live since the outage and I pay for live(I know a waste of $30 since I got it discounted). Well I do use live to stream ESPN3 to watch UCONN B-ball games. I'm just not much of an online guy. So basically it won't affect me whatsoever except being a little down about not being able to play some UC2.
A long damn time, **** i'd happily take a month off every year to dodge the xbox subscription, its just gaming - and online at that, there's plenty of single player and side-by-side options if y'all have friends.Kan0nF0dderThis. Like I would buy a whole new console just because I have to wait a while for PSN to get fixed. I like playing games online but c'mon son!
well 360 fan(boys) didnt switch with 360's high failure rate & having to pay for online, why would PS3 owners switch for just a few days of PSN problems.. i mean you do realise its not like this problem wont be sorted in the coming days..
PS2 has online still ?[QUOTE="Promised_Trini"]
Still got my PS28)
Snyper-007
Apprently it still does...But I am talking coming from a SP point of view I don't really need online..
not really...i mean at the end of the day psn is a free service. besides i have tickets to a show coming up and im looking for a new job for the summer...
life goes on.
It's been awhile since i played super smash bros brawl:|.....i think it's time to get the "skills" back up;)8)

while its annoying since mp is important, its not like not being able to get online for a few days is the end of the world..
but in SW all minor things are used as excuses to 'bash' something :)
People willing to buy a 360 just because of a PSN outage are pretty short sighted.
Yangire
"short sighted" is definitely the word I was searching for. I would be willing to wait at least a month or two before considering subscribing to xbox live.
I am glad I have both systems and have always preferred LIVE anyway but my only gripe with this whole PSN down time is the timing. I just picked up a copy of Socom 4 and Portal 2 but haven't been able to play them on line, that and I am a Plus subscriber so I wonder if I will get anything for the downtime being that I do pay. I know they give you enough stuff for free(though mostly junk, I did like the free Killzone 3 maps though) but Plus subscribers should receive some sort of compensation if it stays down another week or so.
Question is kind of pointless since there is absolutely no way Sony will not get the PSN back up and running.
If, in some insane world, the PSN did go away, I would look at investing in a gaming PC.
I just don't see myself ever buying an Xbox.
Haha, no. I'm not so desperate to play online that I'm going to go out and spend £200 on an Xbox 360 and a Live Gold membership.
And also, as if PSN isn't ever coming back. Please.
And also, this:
Nope. PSN being down doesn't magically make a 360 library of games that I want to play.
TheMoreYouOwn
Hmmmm. I wouldn't have a lot to play online over there right now. Never liked Halo online and I don't play COD online. I'llwait a bit and be back to MAG , Warhawk , and Killzone 3. I haven't picked up LittleBigPlanet 2 yet either. I'd even rather play Socom than Gears. I prefer bigger team games over the smaller arena style games.

this.
Oh **** yes I am willing to switch sides. After owning a PS3 for a long time now I would have no problems giving it up for something else. I've actually already considered it and once it goes back online I have a plan ready. I doubt I will be getting rid of my PS3 though considering how much money I got invested in it. Right now i'm just waiting for E3 to see what's up with Nintendo, then go from there. Gonna start giving my PC more attention than I have been as well.

Let me understand this right. . .You're willing to not play online for an entire month every 12 months just to avoid spending a few dollars a month on XBL Gold? Just don't super size your fries 3 times and you'll pay for the month of Gold.
Never.
Some of us have lives outside of gaming and are well aware of the beautiful natural smell of spring air.
And we're not exactly stupid enough to be suckered into paying a subscription fee, when MP gaming is really not the end all be all of entertainment.
The difference between PS3 gamers and 360 gamers right here folks... Online is not the end all be all of Playstation. Never has been even an issue until this gen. I haven't even played a multiplayer game in over 6 months!!! Too busy playing single player rpgs and such, mostly on PSP and PC , but some on ps3. Can't get enough of my new psp games: FF IV complete Dissidia 012 Legend of heroes trials in the sky the third birthday tactics ogre y's 7 peace walker vc2 y's 3 y's 1 and 2 Legend of mana (ps1) Vagrant Story (ps1) Xenogears (ps1) Threads of fate (ps1) Parasite Eve (ps1) Plus my crazy backlog of psp games. PS3- been playing: Mass effect 2 Two worlds 2 Infamous Ninja Gaiden sigma 2 God of war 2 and 3 Motorstorm PR - couch co-op DeadNation couch co-op PC: Neverwinter nights 2 Platinum Stalker SoC complete Stalker CoP complete Medieval total war 2 Civ 5 Eschalon book 2 Knights of the chalice Avernum 6 Yeah... I have a large back log of psp, ds, pc and ps3 games. I wouldn't have to buy another game ever and still wouldn't run out of games to play for the rest of my life! No online required. Like it was years ago, and really online for me is just a bonus, the store though, i miss! Oh and then there is the nice weather and my wife and kids.... I don't need to play games 24/7 , maybe 1-2 hours out of a day if i'm lucky. So Psn outage == no sweat!I'm sure PS3 owners aren't going to buy another system just because PSN is down for a few days...racing1750
It's been a week and Sony hasn't given any sort of timetable to when it will even be back online. All they have said is that they are "rebuilding" the PSN and even after they get it fixed there is no guarantee that it's going to be flawless. Why wouldn't PS3 owners buy another system? Sony can't even guarantee that your credit and private information is safe

so you're willing to spend $300 and a subscription fee of $60 per year jsut because PSN is down for a few days? oh god. during that time, why don't you just do something else, like watch the NBA playoffs, mow your lawn, or just hang out with friends? it's not that big a deal. Are people really that obsessed with playing online? This is one of the reasons I hate how developers have lately been focusing on online multiplayer more than they have been single player campaign. People have become too dependant on the online community in order to have fun playing their games. Too many modern day games have short campaigns because most people only care about the online multiplayer. This is why the PS2, Gamecube and Xbox generation was so much better than the current generation. You had more original games on the PS2 like Tales of the Abyss, Kingdom Hearts, Sly Cooper and Jak that all had long and original single player stories. Back then people didn't care as much about online multiplayer.
And with a great single player story mode, you can have fun playing that game many years after release because you don't have to worry about the online community leaving that game to play the sequel.

Sony can't even guarantee that your credit and private information is safeJJGT500' We have no information than to assume otherwise, hell the "proposed reason" it went down wouldn't be able to touch our information. We have had few reports about any Credit card information being abused, we had what 1 article the other day that the claimant wasn't even sure if there was a connection. If you have CC info on PSN keep an eye on your transactions and your good... But it's far better to blow this whole thing out a proportion isn't it?
Microsoft did all this. DLCs, timed DLCs, exclusive DLCs, paid DLCs, paid online subscription, overpriced accessories ($100 for a wi-fi adapter wtf), etc. and people are stupid enough to pay just to play online. they don't realize that if they collectively don't pay for Xbox Live, Microsoft will be forced to adapt a free-to-play online model. oh well, that's life. Are people really that obsessed with playing online? People act as if SP games don't even exist anymore. I've been thoroughly enjoying playing games like Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, Vanquish, and Demon's Souls during the outage. I hardly even notice PSN being down aside from not having a friends list that consists of 75% of them strictly playing Call of Duty

well, you're the one who asked 'Why wouldn't PS3 owners buy a new system?' because frankly, that's just a stupid reason. online is down for a few days, and so you're saying 'hey, if that's the case, why wouldnt ps3 onwers just buy a 360?' uhhh...probably because a few days isn't too big a deal? because no online for a few days doesn't mean we need and want to get a new system? let me ask you then, why should PS3 owners buy a new system? because online is down for just a few days? oh please.I would just feel bad if the only selling point of other systems for me is PSN going down, I mean it's not like its gone down forever. I think it would be immature and hasteful to buy another system. Im not saying there is anything wrong with getting another system but you definitely need a better reason than PSN being offline, how about one that actually plays to the other systems strengths ?
Well after a month or two with no end in sight, I'd probably re-buy my 360. But if anything I'd switch to PC.
