Are we content by naming either RDR2, BoTW, or Witcher 3 as the GOTG?

It's a little early but I'm confident it doesn't get better than these games. Eventually someone will have to make the poll to decide between these brilliant titles. It's a hard choice but I'd give it to RDR2 for having the most detailed open world that has ever existed.

Hmmm, they'll definitely be 3 of the popular choices... along with God of War probably.

But I personally would chuck in Super Mario Odyssey and Inside.

I haven't even beat RDR2 yet. It dragged and I took a break. Great game but not GotG. Witcher 3 was good as well but I haven't even bothered with a replay. As for Zelda... it's the best Zelda since Twilight Princess but still not the best Zelda.

GotG is subjective to one's personal taste. I doubt most would find either of those 3 games the best of the gen.

You forgot God of War. Simply a masterpiece, it's between that and BotW for me.

No because TLOU2 is coming out in 2019. Cyberpunk probably 2nd place GOTG.

Honestly I'd have to give it to botw. That game is on a different level from anything I've touched this gen as far as single player games go. Haven't played the other games much though, so my opinion is uninformed.

I think if you let media decide they'll pick BotW.

All those games are incredibly boring in the long run, and also incredibly repetitious. Hardly the stuff of legends.

GOTG should be a game that remains entertaining at all times, from start to finish. HZD is such game. A game that feels like a chore most of the time is no good. And RDR2 surely did feel like a chore, same with W3.

BotW is the only good game among those you listed TC. The other two control like ass and bored people to tears.

Sonic Mania Plus is my GOTG, but in regard to those, I liked RDR2, hated BotW, but loved Witcher 3, and consider it either my 2nd or 3rd favorite game of the gen.

I think Big Chungus will get GOTG.

I played a good 15 hours of HZD, but I don't remember being entertained by it. The combat felt like a chore, and the writing and characters were painfully dull.

I probably wouldn't put it in the top 10 games of its year, let alone GOTG.

Looks like TC needs to play more games.

My vote goes to Bloodborne. Out of all games this gen, its the only one I made to NG+3 twice with different characters

For me it has to GOW for the change in direction to the series brave move and paid off spectacularly. Red dead 2 has to be mentioned as it got me again with the story and it was graphically stunning even on the base systems.

Would definitely give it to TW3, it was the perfect combination of open world and solid single player. Normally I find most open world rpg boring as ****.

I'm with Henry on those 3 games being chores.

I might go with Sunset Overdrive atm or maybe Astrobot although once the wow factor of VR fades it may not hold up.

I have high hopes for DMC5. I'm also very interested in how Platinum's Fall of Babylon turns out.

I'm ok with the Witcher 3 being GOTG.

My vote would still be for TW3 but I wouldn’t mind seeing HZD and Persona 5 added to the list. Divinity OS 2 deserves some love too.

Haven’t played Red Dead Redemption 2 yet but both The Witcher 3 and Breath of the Wild were fantastic games. I’d probably lean towards BotW as GotG right now.

Bloodborne is probably the best game of this generation for me. The world design, art direction, musical score, literally everything, is polished and high quality. It's the truest adaptation of HP Lovecraft to a video game that there is and likely ever will be.

BotW was boring and I didn’t bother with the other two. RPG centric games aren’t my thing.

For me, the original Titanfall is my GotG.

Hollow Knight. From those 3? RDR 2 most definitely. And I am enjoying RDR 2 more than GOW.

I vote Breath of the Wild for making open world games fun again.

@misrespect: RDR2 is overrated. I feel like a broken record, but Rockstar cannot seem to get player movement down. Your character movement is awful. The shooting mechanics are still subpar compared to most 3rd person games. Of course, their production values are very high which is a plus. Definitely not in the discussion for GOTG for me.
