Are jrpgs simply more better than wrpgs this gen?

NOTABLE JRPG - BLOODBORNE, DARK SOULS 3, NIOH, PERSONA V, FINAL FANTASY XV.NIER AUTOMATA,YALUZA 0 ETC.

NOTABLE WRPG-SKYRIM,THE WITCHER 3, FALLOUT 4 ETC.

I agree completely that current jrpgs are simply more better than current wrpgs.

JRPG games still suck because they are too girly and animish however i see final fantasy 15 is different from typical JRPG.

Yes, with the exception of the Witcher 3. But that was developed in Poland, so I dunno if you can classify it as a WRPG.

To be fair, the best JRPGs this generation have all been ones that didn't copy the west, from Dark Souls to Fire Emblem to Persona to Bloodborne

Anyway yeah I guess so. I kind of hate trying to pick one over the other because I've played some amazing WRPGs such as Skyrim, The Witcher 3, Fallout 3 and 4, Mass Effect games, and Dragon Age games but my preference overall goes to JRPGs, I've always loved them.

While not rreally big on JRPGs, yeah, they have done much better this gen than WRPGs, especially with Mass Effect Andromeda really dropping the ball.

Well none of those are better than the Witcher 3 imo, so guess not. And why isn't Horizon Zero Dawn on the WRPG list?

Lately we have gotten a lot of outstanding jrpg and some underrated like the legend of heroes series; but they feel more like a reaction to the great wrpg that we got last gen. But as a fan of rpgs, both western and japanese, these past years have been pretty good for me.

Noteable WRPGs: Divinity: Original Sin, Torment: Tides of Numenera, Pillars of Eternity, Neo Scavanger, Wasteland 2, Witcher 3, Skyrim, Path of Exile, Horizon, Shadowrun Dragonfall and Hong Kong

Upcoming: Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Divinity: Original Sin 2, Pillars of Eternity 2

I would say WRPGs take the cake.

I think it's time we just end the whole "WRPG vs JRPG" debate.

There will always be amazing games on both sides and neither of them ever really "died".

I'm playing through Nier now, and while it is an RPG, it's fairly boring in terms of graphics, and the gameplay eventually gets samey. I wouldn't put FF in the 'great' rpg list. If you're going to add FF then you should add Mass Effect for WRPG *shudders*

I mean, Zelda is not on the JRPG list either. There are omissions on both sides.

I cant speak on Zelda because I live in NYC and for some fvcking reason @getyeryayasout can find Switch's in bumbleturd Washington and I cant in the Capital of the world!!!!!!

I mean if you like JRPG then this was the year for you but with that being said WRPG's still had a strong if not stronger showing. Honestly for me and granted I only played it once but the Story from the Witcher 3 was so satisfying that I would use that as my current choice of here is how you do story telling, side missions, and story choice consequence right. Only game I played where there was no right or wrong answer in story choices.

But I love and enjoy Horizon: Zero Dawn since late February. I actually had more fun with the game as well.

To be fair, I don't think Witcher 3 is the best game he listed in the WRPG list either (albeit I need to make it clear that I adore Witcher 3 regardless).

W and J refer to the type not the location otherwise it doesnt matter. A JRPG is, like final fantasy or star ocean, a turn based often four character styled menu driven adventure game. WRPGs are usually more customisable, often more action driven. Dark Souls certainly qualifies as a WRPG. Certainly.

to me WRPG are quite boring.

i wouldn't count Zelda nor Horizon Zero Dawn nor Fallout 4 as all of them had skill tree just like so many other games which aren't counted as RPG.
