Poll Anyone still not gaming in 4K resolution yet? (104 votes)

Yes I game in 4k resolution. 54%
Nah, not yet. 46%

I’ve been gaming in 4K on my LG CX OLED since the beginning of this gen. Since I have PS5 and XSX, I’m living the 4K dream. Games like God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West look incredible on it. How about you, SW? Are you gaming in 4K yet?

dont think I've played a single game at 4k on my ps5, I rather take the fps, my main gaming monitor is 1440p too, but that's a bit different because 27" 1440p monitor has 108PPI while my 65" oled has 67PPI. 60fps is like fine for controller games, but playing like fps games with mouse below 100 just feels bad after you're used to better

Aye i am on 4k. I have a 4K 43" monitor which i sit pretty close to. It's basically still a PC setup. It wasn't the screen i wanted but my old 1080P TV failed so i just bit the bullet. It does the job.

I find that 4K is not the slap in the face the jump from 480P to 720P was. I remember, when i first got the screen, i bumped the resolution up in Rise of the Tomb Raider from 1080P to 4K. Initially i was disappointed. Jumping between the resolutions while looking at the same spot, i was just noticing a bit more sharpness. But as i ran around the map for a bit (this was on an RX580 GB so performance was...well...as expected :P) I started to notice lots of little details i didn't notice before. The snow looked a bit more sparkly. Little details in rocks i missed. That kind of thing.

I wouldn't bother with 4K if i had a smaller screen or was sitting further away. But 43" 4K at arms length...the little details do appear more apparent.

Nope, not yet. I’d rather have the higher fps anyway. When given the option I go with 60fps.

What is the sweet spot resolution for pc gaming? 1440p. This is the only resolution that matter atm. 4k tv's is for boomers that sit on their couch and blast 5.1 surround.

I do on PC. Except when it takes a toll on the frame rate. I prefer smoothness.

I usually do performance modes for PS5 when available

Nope. My 1080p TV still works well and looks good. I'll upgrade to 4K if it breaks or starts to wear out, but no big rush otherwise.

@SolidGame_basic: You mean you have been outputting at 4K. Many games on XSX and PS5 don't actually run at native 4K.

Anyway, I use a 3440x1440/175hz QD OLED monitor and 4K/120hz OLED TV for my gaming with a RTX 4090 based PC and PS5.

FPS over resolution any day. I'm playing tiny Tina's wonderlands in 1080p 120fps on ps5. I can notice the frame rate much moreso than the resolution.

I think 4k is overrated.....they could make the game looks visually better instead of wasting hardware resources on higher resolution, 1080p looked good enough.

What's the point of making ultra sharp textures and quality draw distance when the whole imagine is blurry af in 1080p? 1080p is extremely outdated. Its the same as gaming in 720p and pretending that it looks "good enough". It doesn't good enough UNLESS you haven't seen better.

I've got a 32" 4K gaming monitor and an LG C2 42" 4K OLED. I mainly now play on the OLED, even my PC games are played on the OLED TV. I actually wish I'd purchased a 1440P monitor now though.

I paid about £600 for the 4K Monitor and I actually use it more for work than gaming. I mostly work from home now and it's way too overkill for home working. I only go to the office twice a month. Soon it'll be two days a week.

Like @nfamouslegend said, I also have PC Monitor 1440p/165hz & a 4KTV for my PS5 & XSS.

I still favor 1440p as its still the gold standard for most PC gamers and getting more framerates is all I really care while still looking pretty that is 1440p. If I ever do upgrade to an RTX 4090, that's the point I'll purchase 4K/165hz monitor but for now, my RTX 3070 Ti will pave the way for 1440p gaming.

Monitors aren't that big, though. 4K makes more sense with a TV. 4K monitor would just give you the drawbacks of badly scaled 2K programs.

I have been running at 4K display on consoles for a while now (and for a year on my PC).

That being said, on the PS5/XSX even though it outputs at 4K, almost none of the games on those systems actually run at 4K (and when it does it is at 30FPS, which is a no go in my book). And even then the "quality" modes on consoles are rarely full 4k anyway (usually 85%ish of 4k with Dynamic Res). Frankly would much rather have 60FPS and lower render resolution so I run my games, when given the option, using the "performance" mode.

1440p still seems like the sweetspot for performance/quality on PC, so I'm still using that.

TV is still a ancient 1080p one but I don't use it that much so haven't felt an urge to upgrade

Yes on LG C2, but at a much higher FPS than you. Console 4K (native) performance is trash in AAA games.

I have the 1X so I'm not sure how many games run in 4K but it's not many. I appreciate the resolution boost for most games though but don't think it's revolutionary, more like just a clever sales pitch to sell you a new TV.

It's mixed. 4K is talked about hugely here, but console's do trickery to get there or appear like they're getting there. Lots of different techniques of up sampling and dynamic resolution scaling. Launch a game in 4K and the console and the display remains in 4K but the game will render dynamically at different resolutions depending on what's going on on-screen. This is what happens with most games.

Despite all this dynamic scaling and temporal sampling, it's quite amazing how for the most part the typical gamer can't actually see it.

I wish dynamic scaling was added to PC games, but most don't have it.

BIG 4k OLED TV and Dolby Atmos is the only way to game.

Budget dictates what people consider their sweet spot. Which is totally fine.

I'd like a 4090 to play all my games at 4k full performance but I just paid more for gym equipment and now I'm skint.

Nope. Don't see the point.

Consoles can't handle it, so they either run it badly or upscale. PCs can handle it, but you'd need to spend a fortune to get good performance.

Usually upgrade GPU when I can't do 60 fps with medium settings in new games anymore. But yeah, will definitely upgrade soon, it's the only thing I need for epic settings. 1070 is still chugging along though, so I'm not in a rush.

Will probably pick up a 3070 ti. Seems like the most bang for the buck. Would Sweden have US prices, I'd probably already own a 3080 ti by now, but GPUs have insane prices here.

3070ti in US: $600
3070ti in Swe: $950

Way better deals on amd cards. We've just had an rx6900xt for $799cad, which is 596usd. Almost bought it myself, but it would've been dumb af pairing it with my 9600k.
