It feels like such a waste to buy a game without multiplayer, single player games could never have the value of multiplayer games. Recently I bought bioshock infinite, and I love the game but I felt ripped off hardcore, after the SP there's nothing to do so it was like a waste of money. From now on I will only rent SP only games... does anyone else feel this way? I mean many of you have to have felt ripped off by games like Vanquish, Mass Effect 1+2 and Witcher 2.

No, and I'm still pissed that God of War suffered so much for the throwaway mode.

Just get a discount by waiting at retail if you are worried about the game. It's hard to feel ripped off if you get the game cheaper than normal.

Also, I am losing interest in MP games in general, unless they approach with a fresh angle...so I appreciate a good SP game if it's unique and fresh.

Well I replay games alot so I'm fine. Multiplayer is a nice bonus sometimes but I don't usually buy games specifically for multiplayer.

Online multiplayer is SOOO over-rated it's not funny. There are only a very small amount of online mp games that are even worth playing, and even then they become repetitive very quickly. So no, sp>>>>>>mp every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Nope. The are very few players in the multiplayer department that I bother with (Halo, CoD, Battlefield). The rest are garbage and don't hold my attention. For example why would I even bother playing Bioshock 2 online? Absolutely no reason whatsoever, I'd much rather devs focused on the single player and left the multiplayer to devs who can actually nail it.

If I want to play a multiplayer game, it's usually Quake Live or TF2. Occasionally Tribes Ascend. I mostly play single player games, and I think I paid $20 for ME3. That's the most I've spent on a game in a while and I felt it was worth it. I played like an hour of the multiplayer to get the readiness rating up, but man I didn't enjoy it. I hate horde type modes and the game didn't have great combat anyways.

No, but I am buying a lot more multiplayer only games like Chivalry Medieval Warfare and Natural Selection 2. If I want a single player game, I want it to be nothing but single player, and if I want a multiplayer game, I want it to be nothing but multiplayer. Think how much better Battlefield 3 could have been if they ignored the idiotic single player and focused on the multiplayer alone.

I can get that after playing games that have modes that extend the life of a game hundreds of hours suddenly your sense of value changes. For me though a feature I won't use (multi-player) has no value to me (unless it is a well implemented co-op).

There's like 3 MP games I play, and I'm completely uninterested in MP modes from SP games. All the best MP games are designed from the ground up around MP, and when SP games have a MP mode attached, more often than not it's extremely lackluster, and doesn't hold anyone's attention long enough to pull them away from whatever MP games they regularly play, be that COD, or Counterstrike, or BF, or whatever. And every SP game I've ever played and truly enjoyed, I've since replayed at least once.

Publishers need to realize that MP is not always needed, not everyone wants it, and even when people do want it, it has to be truly amazing to actually keep people playing. Don't cram it into every game. That's a tried and true way to make a shitty game.

Bingo. If I'm going to spend $40 or more on a game, it needs to be a massive single player game like GTA, fallout, Forza, etc, or a major multiplayer game like Battlefield 3, which I'm picking up the premium edition tomorrow.

I'm not sure about that. We are talking around 50 hours rather next to potentially hundreds. Though I'd take SMG over most multiplayer games any day because 50 hours of a game that I thoroughly enjoyed versus a frustrating online experience is a night-and-day decision for me. That and the fact that 50 hours is hardly short (in fact by the genre standard is huge).

Single player: Beat the 10 hour campaign once and never touch it again.

Multiplayer: Play the exact same 20 minute match over and over and over and over and over and over and over again and don't get bored.

But hey, you get to watch a little XP bar fill up to unlock new guns that do the exact same thing slightly differently!

I don't know if people who think like this are stupid or easily satisfied. I've put over 700 hours into Morrowind and I still play it semi-regularly. Maybe modern single player games are just crappier than old ones.

Nope, there are several games I buy and have zero interest in the MP. I only feel ripped off if the SP is less than expected. For example, I bought Tomb Raider and only played through it once, but it was good enough that I did not feel ripped off. The MP may as well not exist

That's why many developers are introducing MP into games. MP increased value and longevity of your game. Next gen is going to be about introducing network connectivity to EVERY game whether its online co-op, MP, or even some sort of connected SP experience ala Watch Dogs or MMO-like ala Destiny.

Im not buying many multiplayer games anymore because they all suck now. Everything is a cod clone, or something that borrows basically everything from it. No tactical skill based arena shooters for us anymore.

95% of the games I buy now are SP only. shmups, point and click adventures, puzzle games, rpgs.. most newer MP games are kind of watered down and low iq.. which is why I mostly stick to quake and TFC.

Multiplayer games just suck when you have people that devote their whole life to them and berate you in game when you suck because you have a life. There is no value after the servers get pulled in a year or in 6 months wihen the population gets cut idown to 100 dedicated players.... So I can do without multiplayer... .period. It has no place in a single player game. If you can't find stuff to do in a single player game then move on. I am sure you haven't platinumed those games you mentioned or played all difficulties...Put the game a way and play it again years down the road. I am replaying games right now that i played in the 90's.... its fun...and you can't do any of that with multiplayer.

The whole point of gaming for a lot of us is to escape and explore a different world. Something multiplayer bro social gamers will never understand...

Seriously. I much prefer a good SP game, that I'll play a few times, over a boring campaign with a boring MP mode tacked on for artificial replay value.

Same, BF is the only competitive MP game I play.

I'm praying they add Spectator mode so BF4 will actually be super competitive. The only reason MLG did not pick 3 up was due to no spectate mode.

It really doesn't matter to me.

Some of my favorite games I've only played through maybe 5-10 times in my life which is easily dwarfed by multiplayer games I've played, but value doesn't simply come from play time.

On top of that I play multiplayer games for different reasons than I do single player. Similarly I can watch unlimited tv shows for free, but I still find myself at the movie theatre every so often.

hard to admit but yeah... Because the thing is that games these days are so easy and so short too! An example would be MG Rising and Vanquish. I wouldn't pay $60 for them but if it is at least 15-20 hours like Deus Ex then it's OK.

I understand people wanting longer games, but I could not see myself enjoying a game of that type (MG Rising and Vanquish) for 15-20 hours. Some games just have no need to be that long.

No.  My situation varies by game.  Like tomb raider for instance, I never touched the multiplayer.  I bought TR solely for the single player experience.
