Each systems does certain things better than others.
PS5 has a much better DVR and YouTube app integration, Xbox's DVR is a pain to use, and they took out YouTube upload functionality end of last gen when the File Explorer plug-in was removed from the Xbox OS. PS5 runs laps around rhe Series X|S with multiple record options and much more generous record lengths.
Xbox does the subscription service better, and the UWP ecosystem is years ahead of Sony's with its Play Anywhere and Smart Delivery features, with its userbased cross-system functionality and entitlements. However, Sony does do one thing better in this regard. Xbox's Smart Delivery gives players the higher available build of a game to play that utilizes the feature, but doesn't give options to manually select the build to play. But PS5 gives users this option. This normally isn't an issue, but in certain circumstances people might want that option. Blair Witch on Series X versus the Series S is a clear example of why someone might want to run the XB1 build over the XB1X build, Series S will run a clean 60fps based on the original XB1 code whereas the XB1X code runs like ass on the Series X. This could be remedied by being able to choose the version to play, but that's not an option.
Xbox's quick resume feature is way better, you can suspend multiple games without a problem and jump back in as if you never shut it down. Of course, the caveat is that it's fussy if the game has some online integration feature and suspending games always upsets that functionality, but that's expected.
I feel a great sense of disappointment all around with developers, given both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S built a whole array of optimization features that still go unutilized. Devs still build games almost like they're on 8th gen systems, where it's constantly loading huge chunks of data to the RAM rather than utilize direct access to the SSDs like virtual memory. I feel this often gets ignored, gaming world just seems happy if the PS5 versions run marginally better than Series X|S builds but this still ignores how developers are cheating everyone by not utilizing the tools at their disposal to make the games better on consoles all around.
Games themselves are still and apple and oranges situation, nothing changes there. Both Sony and MS are putting their games on PC too. MS has an advantage of their UWP ecosystem, Sony doesn't even have a console-PC ecosystem. Microsoft's games also tend to do a lot better on PC than Sony's. Microsoft also puts there first party games on their subscription services day one which makes their subscription service a much better value than Sony's. Third party content is comparable for older games and indies on the services, but Xbox does a better job nabbing them at launch. Sony's Premium tier too is baffling too, they really should just consolidate the Extra/Premium offerings under one tier. Premium is supposed to be the BC tier and it's sucking at being such.
Frankly I feel UE5 really sold the expectations of 9th gen systems more than anything else and we're only finally stating to see third party games releasing that use it. But stuff I've played has all been from smaller devs. We've yet to see a ambitious AAA game making great use of it, those are finally coming, but the way people talk it sounds like this gen is already wrapping up.
