Aww I had a big thread going. Oh well. It's not down. It's PS3's that are bugged with a time error. Should resolve itself or need a quick patch by morning.Keep all PSN topics here so says the Captain Harlock cat....

Its the APOCALYPS3, and your PS3 is affected even if you didn't turn it on.
I don't know if this is possibly why my PS3 is unaffected, but I just had my phat PS3 sent in for repair last July. So maybe they put in newer hardware and took out the older hardware that's now causing this time problem. It's unlikely...but just something I thought of.

I'd like to comment that my 80 GB (fat, no BC) is working fine. Just rented a movie off the Playstation Store.
Why did system wars make this so big. I thought it would be...Oh its down? Thats fine, it will work soon. Yet SW makes it 10x worse.
Anyone that didnt notice, someone posted a thread on ps3 forums with an explanation. It should be good to go tomorrow. If not, they'll do an update. It had to do with the leap year.

I really think you have a separate issue as all PS3's affected can turn on and get the error message. What happened to yours?who's PS3 died because of this?

Because it's sad, and had a bad day at work. Sony doesn't pay it good vacation pay, or benefits, so it's feeling down. BTW, nice sig.Why is it down?

PSN itself isn't having issues
problem is fat PS3's are experiencing random data corruption that's preventing users from connecting to PSN, syncing trophies (which prevents some disc-based games from working) or from playing PSN titles
the other symptom is the system clock is reset to 1/9/1999 (currently can't fix via internet, and manually resetting does nothing)
some users (myself included) even got these problems despite not being connected to the internet in any form or fashion, so it sounds like it could be a hardware issue related to the console's internal system clock
this doesn't mean you can't still get files from PSN, personally despite me not being able to connect to PSN or sign into my account i was still able to download updates to both Uncharted 2 and LBP (both of whom are among the few games that still boot up)
if a system update is all that needs to happen then users who can't connect to PSN should be fine, but if it's a hardware problem then not much we can do about it
not much else to say

No updates for an hour or two from Sony.
Keep track of what they have to say here.
Somebody had posted this on the PS3 forums:
Here's what's going on right now: something with the PS3's internal clock has borked in some pre-slim models. This is not a PSN issue; it has to do with your PS3's clock. This clock is NOT related to the OS clock. It seems to be a leap year bug. Setting your clock ahead will do nothing. All PS3s around the world were affected at the exact same time.
Does this affect me? -If you have a Slim PS3, you're good to go. Continue playing it as normal. -If you have a "fat" PS3, you may be affected. Some fat PS3s have worked ok, but it seems a good majority have been bugged.
What does this bug mean? -If affected, your date and time has been set to a random past date. This prevents you from signing into PSN, playing any PSN games, or using any DLC. Your trophies will also not display correctly or be able to sync.
How do I fix it? -You can't. Even if you don't sign into PSN, it won't help. This is a hardware issue.
So, what do I do? -Wait 24 hours. Other products that have had similar bugs have corrected themselves after the "bugged" day. On Monday around 8pm central time, all PS3s will automatically correct themselves…maybe. -If that doesn't work, we'll need a firmware update from Sony, which should be a pretty important priority for them right now.
Did I lose my data/themes/etc? Your save data/games/dlc/themes are fine. They'll be fixed when the PS3 is fixed. Trophies are uncertain right now, but they'll be fine if you've synced them before the PS3 was bugged. Unsynced trophies are an unknown right now.
If I have a bugged PS3, can I still use it? It's probably not a good idea, as I have no idea what will happen to the trophies you earn during the bugged time. Movies/media will work fine.

What is in red is what is most worrisome. I sync my trophies regularly so I'm not worried, plus none of my trophies were missing. But for those that don't sync often this could pose as a big problem.

Zero_epyon
It just suddenly shut off and it got the blinking red light. It happened closely around the time when I heard about this error. I'm wondering if it was connected somehow.
(though It maybe unrelated.)
