Poll Alan Wake series VS Resident Evil Series (69 votes)

Alan Wake is the better series 23%
Resident Evil is the better series 77%

Hello. Was conversing with someone on the forum yesterday (who will remain anonymous) and they repeatedly claimed Alan Wake was better than any Resident Evil game. A bold declaration. No doubt.

Being insecure, immediately ran to make a thread to see if this is reality. The 14-15 should hopefully be an accurate metric.

Which series is better.

Resident Evil

Or Alan Wake

Please choose wisely, if possible put lots of thought into your answer with multiple paragraphs, if watched a SuperbunnyHop or Matthewmatosis copy-paste what they said to come across as more intelligent.

One word replies are also acceptable.

@x_hedon: Yet you haven't played a single RE game. Did you not have a PS1? Not much of a PS player.

@ghosts4ever: One day you'll say something sensible and coherent. Don't worry, you'll get there.

I did have a PS1. Some games just never appealed to me.

@ghosts4ever: Yeah, I liked the story stuff.

Dead Space doesn't suck, man. Was scary, fun, very pretty (still looks good), atmospheric, and just overall played well. If you were expecting a System Shock I can imagine being dissapointed, but for me it surprised me with how good it was. A shame what they did to the sequels, especially 3.

Tis a joke thread, right?

First, Alan Wake has a game and one stand alone DLC... wouldnt exactly call it a franchise

Second, even though RE has a lot of trash shovelware games within the series, usually the mainline ones are among the best horror games ever created. Its no contest, really

Alan Wake had an interesting concept and I enjoyed it immensely but it drags for waaay too long without the gameplay to suport such a lengthy game

also

Was conversing with someone on the forum yesterday (who will remain anonymous) and they repeatedly claimed Alan Wake was better than any Resident Evil game.

It was Ghot4ever, wasnt it? Imma gonna say it was Ghost4ever

@uninspiredcup:

I'm not sure if you can even call Alan Wake a series since there was only like what, 2 games? Resident Evil wins by default.

I find both to be underwhelming in most cases. I suppose having only played Alan wake once I could have a different opinion we're I to play it again, but both IP's are not ones I get excited for.

Pretty easy answer, Resident Evil. Alan Wake's good, but it doesn't hold a candle to RE's best games.

RE is overated franchise. It just has alot of die hards for being one of the longest running horror game franchises.

RE has always had slow clunky controls. It can build some good tension but mechanically I'd say Alan wake is better.

Dead Space better than both of them

Played AW a while, but after I noticed how bad the gameplay was I stopped. Pretty cool story though.

Played RE4, loved it. Played RE5, liked it. Played RE: Revelations, liked it. I know REmake is awesome, but for some reason haven't played it.

It's not even a contest. When taking all RE games into account, the series actually sucks balls. Still better than AW though.

what so bad about Alan wake gameplay? what third person horror game offer better gameplay?

Already mentioned some in my post, but here's another: Dead Space. How much "horror" those are is debatable I guess, but they're way more fun than AW.

What's so bad about it? Don't really remember, was years ago I played it. I remember finding it boring.

Dead space suck. sure its more scary but its nowheare near atmospheric and immersive as Alan wake. beside that Dead space was also dumbed down system shock.

Alan wake feel like if Max payne was horror game. how alan wake narrate story throughout make me remind of max payne.

I don't know if you're serious & mentally handicapped, or just trolling for shits & giggles, but, Dead Space literally shits all over Alan (I can't staya) Wake playing this turd.

And to answer the question, Resident Evil 2 alone BURIES Alan Wake....it is not even a competition. Alan Wake gets destroyed in all areas by ANY Resident Evil game (yep even 6).....

Alan Wake is a mediocre snooze fest, completely lacking in horror, did not deliver in anyway on the pre-launch promises, and it is really just one game despite Nightmare and references in other games. But ****, that Jacket! A masterpiece just because of that.

RE is all over the place and often with pure shit controls. But occasionally it actually does have horror and genuinely creepy holy **** things. Ergo, it wins by default.

And I do agree with others that RE vs Deadspace is a better comparison. Especially as they both are at least series...not one game and a bit of somewhat related vomit tack on.

Silent Hill or Resident Evil would have made a stronger argument in my opinion. AW never interested me,so RE would be my pick.

Weird comparison imo, one AW vs a bunch of re games…

But if not based on volume I’ll definitely give it to AW, such a underrated game!

Most of the mainline RE games are individually better than AW... Pitting the entire RE franchise against AW is just overkill.

So I heard that the evil within is a great horror series. I tried a bit if it and I'm impressed. Will definitely try out more.

RE, by a long shot. The franchise has timeless classics while Alan Wake is barely remembered outside of forum dwellers.

good. more mainstream franchise is. more bad.

thus RE more bad. yearly iteration.

How would you know, sniper4321? You don't play games, you just troll gaming forums.
