40% of Dark Soul series sales are from PC

"Bandai Namco has revealed that the Dark Souls series has sold over 8 million copies worldwide, with 40% of those sales being from the PC. Despite not being fully optimized for the platform the Dark Souls series has managed to sell 3.2 million copies on PC alone."

According to Steamspy’s stats, the first Dark Souls game has sold over 1,966,773 copies, while Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin have sold around 987,618 and 248,659 copies, respectively. (Older stats)

This could serve as an indication of the success that the series has with PC gamers amd hopefully the recently announced third iteration of the series will be granted the full attention it deserves with a worthy PC version.

PC ftw. I bought Dark Souls and Dark Souls II on PC day 1. Actually, i didnt buy Dark Souls on day 1, i think i bought it a week later.

Disappointed in the DS2 story which was a recycle of the first if it wasn't for the Boss fights I would never have played the game. I hope they focus more on the story instead of making it vague in DSIII

The second is overrated but I;m still interested in playing the third. Hopefully they do something new instead of the same old design.

Just take a look at the sales. I believe someone posted them awhile back, and it wasn't very close. I think it was around 10x more or so for PS.

The PC sales for DS is quite close to the PS

Numbers didn't add up for pc sales after console numbers were made official.

I'm pretty sure the issues are fixed with mods and it runs better than the console version now.

If you're going to trash the franchise, lol, do it for a legit reason. It used to be niche, but now it is pretty popular. It's gone the way of CoD. Honestly, I'm tired of the franchise and its upcoming Demons' Souls 5.

@abtoxin: I actually want The Souls series to stay as a niche in gaming. It'll keep all those kids away. Well it's learning curve is already ridiculously steep at the start of any of them. That should keep'em away.

DS2 was part of the lore after DS1 wasn't it ?

So technically it's only logical that it had a similar outcome at the end. Never go to Dark Souls for story but rather Lore. And that's where DS2 came a bit short. But it's still better than a lot of RPG's you see. No need to dislike it because it couldn't compete with DS1. I played DS2 because it was one of the best games that came out in it's time. Also the DS2 didn't have Miyazaki in control.

But still Dark Souls 2 IS a good game.

Actually if you consider how much the PS versions outsold their Xbox counterparts (from monthly numbers etc.), that would place the PS versions at about 40 percent as well.

That's across PS3 and PS4 though, so PC naturally occupies the highest percentage of sales as one platform.

PC players just have higher standards when it comes to gameplay.

PC gamers love it because they use mods to make the game extremely easy to beat. They can gimp the game and breeze through it. They don't play it how it was meant to be played.

I also want to point out the fact that 90% of PC gamers don't even play the games they buy. So how many of those 3+ million pc sales count as actual people who played it?

I best 1% of pc gamers actually beat it.

PC gamers have a bad habit of buying hundreds of games but only playing counter strike for 5000 hours.
