@Grey_Eyed_Elf: Gamers should care about games. To me, FPS, resolution and so on does not make or break a game.

For instance, Breath of the Wild will be one of the best games released this gen while being low Res and having FPS issues, and I couldn't care less.

Breath of the wild is a single player slow paced RPG and it doesn't really have performance issues, not serious ones anyway. I have put 70+ hours into it and have rarely ran into performance issues.

FPS doesn't "make or break a game" but try playing a game like PUBG on the X1S or Fallout 4 on the PS4 its a horrible experience and while it surely isn't going to make or break the experience when there are other ways to play the game where you don't have to suffer from bad performance why would you?...

The idea is that a higher frame rate provides a more responsive input. Looking smoother is secondary.

I'm getting old, I came from a time where games were pixelated with a handful of colours, and frame rates issues all-over. Maybe I've grown a resistance. No one is talking about the best possible visuals, you said gamer's should care about games and then went on to say that FPS doesn't make or break a game but in most cases framerate makes a game less enjoyable if like you said the game is a complete mess which is entirely my point.

The games you play are affected by the framerate they run at and now I am not framerate snob 30FPS is okay as long as its a consistant framerate and like you said it doesn't make or break a game but the fact of the matter is that unless its a first party game or extremely well made game framerate issues are very much a issue, its not too much to ask for them to be smoothed out at the end of the day the developers are responsible for providing a working product with the least amount of issues possible especially if its a $60 game in my opinion.

The reason I go with PC is that I can by pass the performance issue by brute forcing it with the best GPU I can buy and or changing settings to get it to run at a smooth framerate.

I agree it doesn't make or break a game and there are definitely more serious issues with gaming from loot boxes and lack of content for modern games like Sea of Thieves but framerate is and always will be something that bothers me.

30fps on console is not similar to playing PC at high frame rates on a 144hz monitor. Consoles are shit. You get what you pay for.

Dumb question you know the Pro and X1X are barely selling most of the console gamers are on the PS4 and X1S... They game at 720-900p most of the time, they don't care about framerates, resolution or anything for that matter all they want is another COD game some mountain dew and console for $399. Its why they hate on PC so much because they can't afford it so they do their absolute best to delude them selves and also make PC gaming look bad when its not and now all they have is TV technology left to keep that arguement going but they don't seem to understand that a HDMI cable can be hooked into a PC also from that same TV... Also the only people doing this a the Xbox gamers and that's simply because they have no exclusives left to argue about.

Before it use to be I don't want PC because I want the xbox exclusives... But they did want a PC they just couldn't afford a good one. Then the exclusives dissapeared and Now its I don't want a PC because 30FPS is enough and 1800p is almost 4K and HDR and OLED is better even though 90%+ of them don't even have a HDR 4K TV let alone a OLED.

Got mine hooked up to a 21:9 144Hz IPS for the shooters and competitive games and its hooked up to a Optoma GT1080e that projects on a matte grey wall at 135" 1080p 60Hz when I play a RPG or a adventure game I use DSR at 1440p and the image looks crisp.

@Grey_Eyed_Elf: The GPUs in X1X and PS4 Pro are decent enough, but the shit CPUs bottleneck many games from achieving 60fps. The consoles have unbalanced hardware and ultimately end up being shit because they can not deliver a proper gaming experience regardless of resolution.

You need to define what console is, because if you try and compare my pc with my PS2, my pc will look way better.

Depends on the game. High frame rates are a must in competitive games. They are unplayable at anything less than 120 FPS.

However, high frame rates improve the experience of any game. Playing the Witcher 3 at 120 FPS is something to behold. Your monitor looks like a window peering into another world. The fluidity of motion at high refresh rates is something you need to experience to understand. It's impossible to go back to a 60 Hz display after experiencing 120+.

The new kids on the block have really high standards now, not saying its bad or anything. Like you i could care less. I own a mid range PC capable of playing games at 1080p 60FPS, but i have no trouble starting my PS4 and playing games at 30FPS - 25Fps.

Sorry if you are using any frame interpolation or post processing while gaming on a TV you are doing it wrong. There is a reason why on most TVs turning on game mode disables all of that shit, because it is shit for gaming. It adds latency to the game and it is one of the biggest mistakes you can make while gaming on a TV. You all must be the same people who don't mind streaming games because you cant feel the latency differences. :P

If you have that shit turned on playing multiplayer games. Please leave it on, I will just enjoy it that much more as I pwn your ass!

@Grey_Eyed_Elf: I see... Yeah I don't play any of those games... Well Destiny, and 60 would have been great, but I won't touch that game anymore. I'd prefer 60 on most of the games I play, but it's not game breaking. I use the frame rate option on monster Hunter, but I don't think it does a whole lot. Same with tomb raider. 60 does look and play better for sure, but I have no problem with 30 for most games I play. But yeah, twitch shooters should definitely be 60 minimum.

PC monitors bring a lot more to the table then TV's do.

1) g-sync removes stuttering entirely, its great. Really smooth gameplay and no input lag that basically makes your input to the character delay heavily.

Example:

It makes the experience really good

2) Gsync removes Tearing example: ( this can be really bad in games like counterstrike )

3) Can disable motion blur's in games ( absolute horrible when moving fast in shooters or anything where you move around fast and need to see stuff fast. )

4) high ms vs low ms. I yet have to see a TV that doesn't have this issue in games specially, which makes tv in general a joke for PC gaming. Even IPS i find unacceptable still on this department.

5) hz comparison, the whole video is a good demonstration on what smoothness more hz really gives you and with that more fps.

There is a reason nobody on the PC segment cares about OLED tv's and HDR tv's. As TV's are simple a non factor in PC gaming. They are far behind to what PC monitors have to offer. HDR / OLED all great stuff, but if it sacrifices what pc monitors now offer, then it's useless and frankly probably not going to be picked up by most people.

And if they ask 600 bucks extra for those features, i would most likely spend it on a better hardware to push even higher frames? it's either free or i couldn't care even 2 cents about it.

I'm completely fine at playing at 30fps, motion blur is a real thing in real life too. If you shake your head side to side fast your going to have motion blur.

You can't see the difference unless you own a 144hz monitor. Those comparison videos are useless. The difference is enormous.

Upgrading to 144hz is probably the biggest visual upgrade you can make to your PC. Your eyes will start to water if you ever try to go back to 60hz after.
