2018 one of the worst years in Gaming in the past 20 years? (97 votes)
Yes. 18%
No. 82%
Other than Red Dead Redemption 2 I don't see much appeal, maybe Battlefield V but it feels like been there done that.
I mean in 2019 we already had a re-release of Onimusha. As a hard core PC Gamer and not owning a Playstation 2 at the time I always wanted to play Onimusha. And we had a pretty good re-make of Resident Evil 2 (which is another game I missed out being a PC Gamer at the time). And that's only one month so far this year.
I would say it's up there with 2014 and 2008. From 1998 - 2018 I would say it was one of the worst year if not the worst. Probably the worst. Agree or disagree? If disagree which year was worse?
It was great for me, I got to play Okami (my favourite game ever), Valkyria Chronicles 4, Civilization 6 while cooking pasta, Octopath, Pokemon, Smash and whole bunch of great indies.
So heavy hitters like God of War, Spiderman, Pokemon Let's Go, Super Smash and your selected Red Dead 2, are all minor contributions in total? That's not including the spectacular sales of Monster Hunter World and Far Cry 5.
lol so because xbox one is a terrible gaming platform, "gaming is terrible in 2018"?
No!
2017 and 2018 were 2 of the best years in gaming history. It's no one's fault if you chose the wrong platform and it passed you by.
Xbox fanboys spent all year hyping 68 and 69 Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2 so you guys should be happy with your dollar menu gaming offerings like you claimed you were when they released.
Honestly the generation didn't even really start being good until 2017 and 2018 just continued that greatness.
Switch and PS4 gamers are loving their games options and aren't forced to only rely on multiplats to fulfill their gaming needs. Sucks for Xbox fans and maybe to a lesser extent PC fans. 2019 will be another amazing year for PS4 and Switch owners.

not every one is interested in sony first party cinematic movie games..
True, but the same can be said for generic brain dead FPS. See what I did there?
A quality game is a quality game.
BTW I said PS4 and Switch gamers so you're still off base. Both users get quality exclusive titles and don't have to live and die by what ever generic game 3rd party devs shit out.
Every now and then a 3rd party developer makes a "movie game" like Resident Evil 2 on the level of Sony and Nintendo exclusives that xbox and PC fans think is the second coming of Christ but fail to realize Sony and Nintendo fans get exclusives like these every year of the generation.
it is what it is, every AAA you hype for PC is a also a game PS4 users can also play in addition to our exclusive line up of AAA titles. It's a matter of quality and consoles (at least PS4 & Switch) aren't suffering.

1. everyone has preference. i hate third person games in general mostly. and FPS are the thing i play 90 percent of my gaming
2. RE2 is opposite of movie games. its not hand holding. its just horror game with some cutscenes here and there. RE6 was movie game. so was 5.

It's a movie game bro, just stop it. Because you praise it doesn't omit it from qualifying for the same criticism that you love to ignorantly label on every Sony game.
You prove my point about xbox and PC fans praising "movie games" that 3rd party devs make because you can actually play it on the platform you love.
Stop trying to defend RE2 being a movie game if you want to use that as a criticism to bash Sony games because you expose yourself as a hypocrite.

Damn first of all that's 1 game. You didn't say "Uncharted 4" in your criticism you said "Sony movie games" as in every AAA game Sony makes. Next
2nd of all, It's exploring, platforming, shooting and combat in that video of UC4. Pretty much the same as in RE2 minus platforming.
3rd the players were deliberately trying to be idiots in the play thru by controlling the game with one hand with no enemies around, yeah you can do that in any game.
4th everything in Uncharted 4 is also in RE2 as far as cinematic and cut scene narration goes so what exactly is your point of that cynical video?
Is, is your argument RE2 isn't a movie game because it's "hard"?
LMFAO that's a new one if that's your argument. That would mean God of War isn't a movie game either.
Difficulty level has NEVER been an argument to classify a "movie game" but when you're desperately trying to vendicate a AAA "movie game" you can actually play the goal post attempts like this are expected.
BTW: First hour of RE2

So for all your ranting about Resident Evil 2, "It's not being a movie game", along with all the other hypocritical fanboys, this is your:
Moment!
Now we all know you really enjoy your movie games when you can actually play them on your favorite toy like the rest of the hypocrites so do Enjoy!
Nope not at all, at least for me. I thought that it was a pretty damn good year. Just off the top of my head some games that I thought turned out really good were:
Going into 2018, looked to be even better than 2017, but it wasn't. I still play tons of 2017 games, while haven't really cared too much for most of 2018's "best" games. I think a ton got delayed and a lot of games weren't as good as people thought they'd be.
So heavy hitters like God of War, Spiderman, Pokemon Let's Go, Super Smash and your selected Red Dead 2, are all minor contributions in total? That's not including the spectacular sales of Monster Hunter World and Far Cry 5.
And AC Odyssey, Dead Cells among others. This thread amounts to "Last year sucked because I dont play on _____ platform and dont like those games".
lol so because xbox one is a terrible gaming platform, "gaming is terrible in 2018"?
No!

If u say so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@boxrekt: You counted every puzzle as a qte... You don't know what qte's are confirmed.
Think fast, what are QTEs?
Quick Time Events. Have you played RE2? Puzzles aren't dictated by time. I just finished Leon's campaign, and the only time-limit I had was in the final act, for the self destruct of NEST. That just gave me time to escape, and to fight MR. X...
2018 was a great year for actual Gamers aka PS4 owners.
If you are a switch owner or xbox owner, I can understand why you thought it sucked because switch suffered a massive game drought all year while Xbox...uh had Forza.
Hard to enjoy the switch/Xbox when they have no games.
@boxrekt: Quick button prompts that have a time limit, not puzzles. Just stop.
WRONG!
Apparently everybody has been using term quick time even to describe "puzzles" then because that's how it's be used for the majority of games.
Due to you making the argument, could you provide some evidence? Who is "everybody," and how have they been using QTE to define none time-dependent puzzles? Now, don't you forget, you said "everybody."
I'll go on record... Using an item in a menu, is not a QTE. Nor is opening a lock when all gameplay is paused when you enter any screen outside of main gameplay. Holy shit lol.
@lundy86_4: na, how but you reply to my full quote or FO
funny thing is the gripe about my use of QTE is irrelevant, even If was was to completely remove them from the time line RE2 still ends up being a movie game so the point is still made.
@lundy86_4: na, how but you reply to my full quote or FO
It was edited after I made the quote. That being said your edit does nothing. Burden of Proof still lies with you. You made the claim, so answer my post... Just so you know, asking a question when you can't prove something, does not shift Burden of Proof. So... You got the definition of QTE wrong, lol.
@boxrekt again, you edited. What, exactly, defines a movie game? In the game, what is RE2's total cutscene time versus gameplay? Again, you made the claim that it's a movie game.
@lundy86_4: na, how but you reply to my full quote or FO

You can't read.
I said, "I digress"
Further more QTE are often "puzzles" so why is one type of puzzle "OK" and another not ok if both interrupt game play? Or are "puzzles" gameplay and therefore the argument about QTE's being qualifiers for "movie games" BS since puzzles are "gameplay"?
This is a song and dance that you people who use the term keep changing to fit whatever game you want the term to apply to.
In the end, your argument about QTE's is deflection to the over all point that my time line proves. Again I could remove every "QTE" from my time line and RE2 will still end up more than qualifying itself for a "movie game". So you desperation to hang on to the QTE angle is pointless.

let's say you're right, why do the majority of people call anything that interrupts gameplay that isn't "timed" a QTE?
Could you provide evidence to support your post? A QTE is a Quick-Time-Event, which denotes moving quickly. RE2 puzzles do not require that, as the puzzles actually pause all gameplay outside of what you're doing. By definition, they couldn't be a QTE.
Try again, schnuckums.
I also asked you to provide what exactly denotes a "movie game." You also attempted to avoid that.

Nothing to damage control. What denotes a movie-game?You posted the time breakdown, so you must have a specific limit in mind. Otherwise I could simply say... No, it does not show a "movie-game."

You have my whole quote there so read it stawman.
but you're right you are desperately getting off the point with all this deflection. The point of my post was to call hypocritical fanboys who conditionally use the term, "movie game" to describe any game that uses cinematics to help drive the narration of a game when it's a Sony title but rabidly argue against the same critera when it's a 3rd party multi platform game.
