11 Reasons why Doom 3 is a better FPS game than Doom 4.

1.In Doom 3 you can skip cutscenes, In 4 you can't

2.In 3 you can use chainsaw as much as you want and you can carry 50 grenades. in 4 you can at most carry 2 and chainsaw use is limited.

3.In 3 you have far better and more variety in level design compare to 4.

You can interact with computers, it has places that you have to collect O2 tanks to survive , dark areas that you need to use flashlight(Added a good variety of light/dark rooms) , codes to enter into locker keys , NPCs to interact alongside combating enemies. But in 4 you only combat in levels with little exploration(That you use the map for it) and little jumping sections.

In 3 you also have a level that has 2 variety(Having jumping sections or having enemies) in it which Doom 4 lacked anything like it. Doom 3 also has a level where you lose all your weapons and have to get them back one by 1. But Doom 4 wasn't that creative with level design.

4.In 3 you have more variety in the way enemies attack you. Some enemies just attack you with melee, some just attack you with ranged attacks and some use both melee+ranged to attack you. In Doom 4 majority of enemies just use melee+ranged tactic.

5. The story of Doom 3 is far better than 4. Also the Marine in 3 is far better than the edgy and angry marine in 4 . That evil doctor in 3 was far better than the villains of 4.

6. Doom 3 has emphasize on exploration for finding med packs and ammo which doom 4 just removed it.(And added ways to replenish them during battle) which means less variety.

7.In Doom 3 enemy AIs are far more balanced. In Doom 4 enemies keep attacking you outside of camera while you are fighting other monsters.(That annoyed me a lot in my Nightmare playthrough of 4)

8.Hardest difficulty of Doom 4 hasn't been designed well. It's just nightmare with only 1 life.(If you die it will be gameover and you have to start over) On the other hand Doom 3's hardest difficulty(Nightmare) is far better designed.(You have the soul cube from the beginning but your life reduces to 25 )

9.Doom 3 has mod support which Doom 4 doesn't.

10.Doom 3's multiplayer is far better than the multiplayer of 4.

11.Doom 3 also had an expansion that improved the gameplay of 3 significantly(A weapon that allow you to kill enemies by throwing objects at them, improved bossfight battles etc) while Doom 4 didn't receive any.

tl;dr : Doom 3 is a better FPS game than 4. 4 only has better combat but other than that in all other ways it's inferior than 3.

Agreed, Doom64 was easily the best FPS on console.

Doom 3 was a great demo of the Doom 3 engine, but that's about it.

Doom 3 was Excellent but Doom 4 is better.

there is not cutscene in Doom 4. just few second so it doesnot matter you skip or not.

I loved doom 3. The game was so creepy to me back then. More of a horror game.

Doom 4 is pure adrenaline. Barely any creepy feeling.

Doom 3 felt scarier when I played it. I liked the environments too, the machines sometimes would sometimes unnerved me. Overall I like the direction latest Doom took. And cutscenes, really not an issue in latest game since exposition is so minimal.

DOOM 4 destroys 3.

I won't say it's comparing apples to oranges, but it's definitely comparing oranges to...tangerines.

Doom 3 was a horror shooter driven by story and a linear campaign

I like them both for different reasons.

I disagree 100%. Doom 3 was not a Doom game. It was a modern FPS and a good one. Doom 4 is a modern Doom game. Doom was always different than all other FPS games out there and it has returned to form. Doom Eternal will be more real Doom gameplay so maybe Metro or some other FPS is for you while I love new Doom for being its crazy unique self.

It became boring too fast.

I love both games. DOOM 3 might take the lead for me since it felt different in a good way. DOOM 4 felt like they almost got what I liked about the old DOOMs right.
