Welcome to the second boring gameplay video of today
Too much walking, a desperate attempt at making it cinematic and atmospheric, camera angle is kinda limited and finally, uninspiring, monotonous and run-of-the-mill combat

A Ninja Theory game?
Hot garbage at the gameplay part?
Truly shocking. The only thing interesting about the project is that it is an independent middle tier production, and Ninja Theory has the presentation chops to maybe do something interesting with the mental illness stuff they are aiming for. But I've always found the overall writing in their games to be straight rubbish, and the best mechanics their games ever had, was through the help of Capcom, for a franchise that had excellent fucking mechanics n base gameplay to begin with, and they happened to make easily the weakest playing entry in that franchise that isn't Devil May Cry 2. So their involvement was a net negative on that front. And they somehow made a dumber/cheesier story out of Devil May Cry, without the fucking fun. How do you even do that? Capcom makes Pirates of the Dark Water look like Shakespeare.
So no thanks. Although it does look weirdly like how the new God of War plays (I guess that makes sense since Heavenly Sword was a poor man's God of War), which I guess is at least funny.

lol
I got bored with Enslaved and didn't beat it, DmC was fun and I finished it but I hadn't played Bayonetta at the time so... :D
And yeah it reminded me of the new God of War, what's with that camera angle? so weird
Well that was disappointing....I like everything about it except the combat. Quit trying to be Dark Souls people.
Yeah, for a game that basically showcases such simple combat, it sure does look like crap. The animations are fairly awful. It's only 30 dollars, but meh, doesn't look worth the money. I'll wait for a sale, and get it for 10 bucks like I did with Ryse. Lol
The best looking indie game ?
Combat looks really fun
Is it indie tho? ?
@mjorh: Basically a 9/10 here at Gamespot
lmao
Until Dawn, period.
I was interested, until I found out it was digital only so... nope, not anymore
... the ****? Really doe?
Yes, but it's also going to only cost $30. I feel like the scope of this game got really smaller over time. lol

Seems having a great story is the only way to get high scores these days. =(
Great? No but being on PS helps and pulling emotions as well. Fvckin Journey went from a 9/10 GOTY to a 10/10 just from a resolution uptick because Kevin Van Ord cried while playing it.
@cainetao11:"Great? No but being on PS helps and pulling emotions as well."
Actually, stories in videogames are horrible. MGS1 is the only one that actually works imo.
" because Kevin Van Ord cried while playing it."
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha
Lol, that's really funny !
Kevin VO also gave The Order 1886 a 5/10 here because he didn't like the story in that game.
I think you guys might be on to something here.
Devs probably went indie because their last game had Capcom carry the project and the previous one before that supposedly went overbudget and undersold.
Also, Looks good for an indie game is one that shows on the playing it part.
@PSP107: He also said the game focusses on the wrong things, like presenting its story, over providing long lasting gameplay.
I'm playing The Order right now and it's far from a 5/10
He wasn't exactly wrong, it's a pretty generic, by the numbers third person cover shooter with no depth, and a bunch of pointless quick time events that add nothing to the experience beyond turning the player into a passenger. Oh added bonus, walking segments, walking segments for days.

I like the flow of the game actually.
Generic ? Nah I actually think it's a really good setting, I like the story of the Order fighting demons.
The 1886 / sci fi weapons are actually some of the most fun weapons I've used in a third person shooter.
Does the game have faults ? Clearly. But you don't see Uncharted or God of War getting a 5 because they have walking sections or QTEs.

The mechanics mate.

I'm not gonna disagree game critics are shit at their job, but I'd totally give God of War a 5, and that first Uncharted (and 3rd one is probably deserving of a 5 as well) had no business getting over a 4 beyond "look how pretty it is". That said UC n God of War, the better ones have more going on for their gameplay. UC2 has more active set pieces, where the player plays more of a role (the convoy chase in UC2 for instance) as opposed to what a set piece is in CoD, or The Order, where it's just rail roaded and the game is on auto pilot. God of War's bosses have QTE finishers, but you do actually have to fight them in some meaningful way using the base mechanics, and appropriately dodging n what not.
Again the fallacy is that the game only got a 5 for just the parts it got wrong, because not all complaints are created equal. It's more so what the **** does The Order's gameplay do well? It has Gears of War's simplistic ass mechanics, albeit without the enemy variation, the wall bouncing, the active reload, or the multiplayer (which is legitimately good) versus what you do in the Order.
Beyond that, personally didn't care for the gunplay, found a lot of the guns limp outside that tesla shit, and forgot the other gun actually.
@jg4xchamp: Generic mechanics ? Nah, I wish every 2d platformer was as tight as Mario. I wish every shooter had shooting mechanics that were as fun as in DOOM or Wolfenstein. Generic could mean a good thing too.
Unwanted mechanics ? Sure.
What I like about the weapons is that they are fictionous but still grounded in a way. I really like the historical setting mixed with fictional stuff.
The gunplay is really good with a lot of effects and a nice punchy sound to them.
I really don't know what to tell ya. I like the game. There is no fallacy in what I said, I said the game doesn't feel like a 5 to me.
And no multiplayer ? Meh, the only multiplayer I ever did in Gears was couch co-op.
@R4gn4r0k:"But you don't see Uncharted or God of War getting a 5 because they have walking sections or QTEs."
UC4 is clearly the worst PS4 purchase game I own. Just a complete snoozfest. Major disappointment for me.
Back to The Order, I got it for $10 and if they actually had put more emphasis on gameplay, I would've liked it more. It was okay for $10.

Not just mental illness, mental illness in a brutal age where you would get no treatment and it would probably be mistaken as something else. The fact it's set against the Pictish decline before they where wiped out in Orkney alone is in itself interesting.
It would be nice if everyone shitting on it was wrong. We will see I guess.
Whoever done that pigment effect deserves a medal btw, it's really fucking good.
Yep, after a few hours of playing it's just I expeceds, long periods of walking and doing nothing with fake tension balancing and scripted climbing. By default walk is on, with run toggle turned off which makes me wonder if this exists purely to pad the game time out.
If you're expecting hoards and hoards of enemies, there is barely any fighting in it. I'm wondering why it has any in the first place since it clearly wants to be an arty walking-simulator. It has a few puzzles as well, one of which I got stuck on but by and large in the early game it's quite monotonous.
The only thing that makes this stand out is that it's dealing with mental issues in an age that most mediums don't deal with mental issues, in a period where they where actually getting wiped out. And the fact you're playing a Pict as opposed to the Viking or a Roman which are done to death. Her character does indeed misinterpret it as mythical stuff, but the game goes from subtle misdirection to outright fantasy, fighting fire-monsrters and what not.
The game it's trying to be art-house DMC when it probably would have worked better as a straight up puzzle game. or shitty walking simulator. Wants it's cakey cake.
