Well what do you think? Which one is better? I will vote for Doom II. I think the mood in the game is better and I like the more simple and rough style.

Hm, I'm with you on that. Duke Nukem 3D was never quite my thing - mostly preferred the mood of DOOM

Doom 3 was my first Doom game before I tried out the other Doom games so I'll just say Duke Nukem 3D cause that game was soo much fun at it's time and I still consider it classic to play by today's standards.

Easily Doom II. I can't remember if I even ever finished Duke 3D (still an awesome game).

Design wise Doom II is better.

Duke3d has a few issues - namely hidden cracks on walls that only show up once or twice in the game becoming frustrating. Mouse look with 2d sprites can also cause some problems and some areas stand out as better quality.

Doom 2 - lacks the interactivity or fourth wall breaking pop culture references but - for what it strives to be as opposed to what it isn't - much like the original or Quake - is sublime.

Quake 2 is great as well but the confusing backtracking and downtime brings it down somewhat.

Duke3d deserves a lot of credit for it's interactivity and character though - many people purely credit Halflife for that.

Duke Nukem was pretty cool and all, but it doesn't hold a candle to Doom

It's hard for me to compare because I feel like the games are quite different. But I'd probably go for Duke Nukem 3D. Why? Well, when it first came out it was really technologically impressive (the graphics and sound were amazing).

Also, I liked the humour of the game. Doom II has a great atmosphere, but I was a bit over Doom games by the time Duke Nukem 3D came out; it felt like a breath of fresh air.

Duke and Doom were both the FPS games I grew up playing and picking one over the other is tough. Ultimately, Doom II is the winner because Doom II is still the best FPS I have ever played. Duke Nukem 3D along with Quake II are 2nd and 3rd on my list of greatest FPS games.

Haha. This is an excellent question. I have fond memories playing both. Exploring each of the worlds was fun in different ways.

@skullhammer22:

Duke Nukem 3D. Better level design, longer adventure and the whole thing was just a blast to play. Doom was always just shoot demons, collect key cards and ammo then go to the end of the level. Not really my thing.

Well it's the soul reason why some of us like Liner shooters such as Doom. There's a reason why the new Doom is highly praise for, some of us love to play campaign that involves liner shooting games and not all this MP Bullshit.
