Okay democrats, leftists, liberals, left wing, socialists, communists or whatever you are now, why do you hate hot, sexy babes in games?

Look at Dragon Age Inquisition, Mass Effect Andromeda, Horizon Dawn Zero, Dishonored death of outsider, Hellblade. All the women npcs in these games are extremely ugly.

I don't mind game devs adding attractive, sexy NPCS for girl gamers or gay gamers, you guys can have eye candy too.

Here are some sample pictures of what I'd like to see more in games:

Always been my favorite:

___

Also, Yennifer is (very) strong, (very) intelligent, (very) independent and the fact she is beautiful is a byproduct. Really the antithesis of what a female video game character should be.

So you want every RPG game to have realistic armor, but magical fireballs and dragons are okay? Skimpy armor like that is fun. If the game is fantasy you can get away with it.

Here's an example of what I'd like to see more of in games. This movie was very well received.

I totally agree with you. Traditionally it's been the right wing that tries to censor sexual games by enforcing morality, but now it's the left wing SJWs who are trying to get all the hot babes removed from games. I kid you not. I've been investigating this for a while. I'm very upset at the left wing for being such prudes. The left wing game industry prudish behavior seems to have started sometime around 2012 and on.

I don't mind sexy armor in games but I don't want them to be the only thing to choose from. Sexy armor is so common in games its boring and uncreative. Its why half the time I end up playing as a male because the female armor is pretty much underwear and there's nothing else. And well the male armor is cooler than a metal bikini

I think I went off topic but the short answer is because its boring. There should be some sexy ones but there should be other types too especially if they're involved in the plot

I'm totally down for armor variety so the player can choose. If it's day time you can wear the skimpy armor or if it's night time and it's cold you can switch to armor that covers up completely.

@luzarius: Here are some sample pictures of what I'd like to see more in games:

All your examples show things that are ubiquitous in video games. Really, how much cartoon boobs do you need?

Anyway, I'll agree there are a lot of us on the left who overreact to this stuff. It's easy to get up in arms about skimpy outfits because you can make your point with a single picture. I think most would be happy to see more female characters with actual consequence to the story, but that takes explanation, context, and a fair amount of qualitative argument.

Also, an outfit doesn't have to be skimpy to be sexy. Your picture of Yennifer is a great example. Skin mostly covered, but she still looks really good. Plus she is a fully fleshed out character. I don't think many people have a problem with her.

Those are sexy?

Honestly they are more repulsive than anything.

Stupidity is not hot. Good character design is not showing off a lot of skin, good character design is something is where the outfits and aesthetics make sense for the situation the character is in, while also preferably looking good at the same time. Tell a story via a character's appearance so to speak.

If anything, skimpy armor nowadays is so overdone and cliche, I roll my eyes whenever I see it.

Fantasy does not excuse stupidity, and logic defying armor and weaponry. If you are going to lazily justify poor armor design under the excuse "magic", then don't bother. Magical fireballs and dragons can be easily suspended as they can be justified in their own world. Bikini armors on the other hand, are seldomly ever justified.

The thing is,

A fantasy world has a different set of physics from ours.

However, the same rules of logic still apply.

The change in physical laws would not be enough to justify the bikini armors, ESPECIALLY since the very same set when equipped on males, gives a full armor piece. All in all, if you are going to put in bikini armors, JUSTIFY the damn armor in the damn lore. Dont just go "lol boobies" and call it a day. Make the NPCs beautiful, but more importantly, make them an outfit that fits their character. When I see a character, I want to know a good deal about him or her just by looking at her. Gaming is visual medium that has the potential for visual storytelling, yet most games completely squander this opportunity, sometimes opting for empty fan service instead.

I am playing FFXIV right now. There is a good way to tell if a tank is good or not. If they are a female player wearing sexy/skimpy armor, I am prepared for a bad time, when I heal.

Personally, I look fully armored in my tanking outfit :)

I just don't want female character design to be so bad that it's embarrassing to even play the game. Quiet's character design from mgs5 was so insanely bad that I couldn't bring myself to play the game if any of my roommates were around or if anyone else was over.

The reason people don't normally like this stuff is for the same reason people don't like Michael bay movies (or at least they're not qualified as actually being good even if they are personally enjoyed). It feels like idiotic, bottom tier pandering to the most loathesome audience a game/movie can find. It feels like the player/viewer is being insulted, especially when it's justified with some horseshit like "she breaths through her skin" or whatever the hell it was.

If Kojima had just come out and said "I made Quiet this way because I wanted a sexy lady in the game" I actually would have been more okay with it. The idiotic justification was just insulting.

I stop taking you seriously when you brought out the terms for people on the left, and then you made it sad. Im not trying to judge, but I prefer real women.

Also its usually right wing christians who try to censor games, what you posted is just some bs that people say on the internet.

You realize this indirectly leads to rebellion against the left wing right? You have to be very careful with this.

If Trump wins in 2020, you have to ask yourself if you're responsible for that in some small way. Imagine if all the left wing types act like you, you're going to send a very bad message. Are you responsible for tarnishing the reputation of the left wing by judging people for liking skimpy armor mods in Skyrim? Skyrim skimpy armor mods are EXTREMELY popular. You realize left wing has ALWAYS loved sexy, sexualized content in games right? Has that officially changed? Are you now advertising that right wing are the ones who value sexual liberty and sexualization?

I guess I won't post anymore pics of beautiful, sexy women anymore per your 'left wing' request despite their massive popularity.

Right wing has not done this in many, many years. The reality is the moderator @horgen is most likely a left wing person who is using his power to suppress what he finds offensive. This is the nightmare that we're living in right now. The good news he has the power to change, fix and restore the reputation of the left wing as advocates of sexual liberty and fun sexualization in games.

I respect that, but wouldn't it make the left wing look better if you guys supported sexualization? Perhaps Gamespot should be a little bit more relaxed and just support Sexy Skyrim mods? They're very popular and it will send a clear message that the left wing are not prudes which is a good thing right?

I mean what's wrong with Skyrim skimpy armor mods? There's no breast or genitals showing you know. The left wing have never been known to be prudish puritans until post 2012.

My intentions are good, I don't want to stay on the right wing for too long. I really want to rejoin the Democratic party, but culturally the left wing have become very oppressed when it comes to content like sexy Skyrim mods.

My intentions are good. People who value sexualization need a political party and that has always the left wing. It makes no sense that people who value sexualization are ending up on the right wing.

I respect your request by the way!

Imagine this for a second. Imagine if gamespot started to promote sexualization and support it. Now imagine if a right wing politician attacked you guys over it. BOOM, do you realize how many people would rebel against that right wing politician and support gamespot? Then if gamespot says, "we value sexualization, let's fight back against this right wing politician." That's it, DEMOCRATS WIN 2020.

Democrats don't need that many more votes to secure an election. All it takes is a minor cause to win voters.Games have a HUGE influence.

The problem with this argument is your implying that once a person has sex with woman in real life that sexualization in movies/shows/games should cease. Does that make any sense to you?

You're basically saying that if a guy has a girlfriend, then Wonder Woman doesn't need to be sexy and sexualized anymore. Uhhh, what?

When was the last time the right wing did any censorship? Now think, who is complaining about sexualization in games? The left wing. Put 2 and 2 together.

I really liked Quiet's design and I want to see ten times more of that content to be honest, but at the same time I believe in ARMOR VARIETY, so if you want to change her outfit you should be able to. Options are good. Options allow people to fine tune the game to what they want.

I'm with ya. Who wouldn't want an attractive character in a video game? Male or female. It's the same as in movies. To me, games are for escaping reality. They don't have to make sense(like skimpy armor). I've never looked at a man in a movie and got offended by how much better he looks than me lol. The new cool it seems is to get offended by anything and everything. I just read an article about someone getting offended because Hobby Lobby is selling faux cotton plants for decoration (which isn't anything new).

Okay democrats, leftists, liberals, left wing, socialists, communists or whatever you are now, why do you hate hot, sexy babes in games?

Ask yourself that question in a real life setting with normal people. When they laugh at you for asking stupid questions, finally ask yourself, "am I able to use the cognitive function in my head?" People do have a problem with it. Some of it is stupid, some actually have valid points. Lumping the left-spectrum doesn't make any sense.

Look at Dragon Age Inquisition, Mass Effect Andromeda, Horizon Dawn Zero, Dishonored death of outsider, Hellblade. All the women npcs in these games are extremely ugly.

Seriously? They're ugly? Okay now. Sure......

You remind me of this dude who matched with an attractive girl on tinder, complained that she was actually ugly without make-up (I shit you not) and then takes home a fat chick who couldn't even compare to that attractive girl without makeup on tinder. But then again, beauty is what it is to the beholder so what do I know?

One of the arguments made against over-sexualiziation of women (and men) in videogames is that it sets an unrealistic precedent on how men and women should appear in real life. If you think the main female character from Horizon: Dawn Zero or any of the characters from any other of the games are ugly, I think they have a point and maybe you should stop laying videogames and get back to the real world.

I don't mind game devs adding attractive, sexy NPCS for girl gamers or gay gamers, you guys can have eye candy too.

The day Call of Duty introduces scantily-clad SAS fighting Siberian underwear models from Russia and hot ankle-showing burqa-wearing women from the Middle East is the day I take this thread, or you, seriously than N64DD's posts.

Here are some sample pictures of what I'd like to see more in games:

If you want more of that, you can always buy barbie dolls. Or Bratz but that might be weird. Very weird.

Anyways, TC's OP is dumb but it does introduce an important question as to why scantily-clad characters can be controversial.

Depends on the theme, time and audience

The reason why Quiet from MGS5's outfit didn't make sense is the reason why Valeria from Conan the Barbarian's outfit makes sense, and is the reason why pornos involving scantily-clad actors and actresses makes sense and so does the amount of innuendo from Game of Thrones makes sense (or most of the times). In the end, it comes down to the theme and who your target audience is.

Time is a different manner. What made sense in the 80s may not make sense right now but we still appreciate the quality of the past because it had a good story and theme to back it up at the time. Today, I want to say that the industry is interested in making entertainment interesting with stories that hold on to you, complex characters that you can't absolutely hate or love, and introducing themes that makes you question things. So, in other words, two-dimensional barbie dolls are now outdated because people want interesting and complex female characters. Or sometimes they make nostalgic pieces with an 80s theme that is still fun and perky and still introduce scantily-clad characters because it fits with the theme.

And finally, audience. Who is playing the game? It's also women but also teenagers, families, parents, kids, whoever. Basically, almost everyone is playing videogames and sometimes the ESRB rating doesn't matter anymore (same reason why kids play Halo and CoD and why they don't have scantily-clad barbie dolls).

Again, it has to work for the theme and the time, as well as the audience you're producing it for. Most people don't like scantily-clad women not because they hate beautiful women. It's because it doesn't make that much sense unless it works with the theme of the story. Duke Nukem's scantily-clad women made more sense than Quiet from MGS5 and that's saying a lot.

---

Now as for the arguments against having scantily-clad women, it's a stereotypical and over-used cliche that, and people have argued, can have a negative effect on male gamer's perception on how women should dress and/or act. Similar arguments have been used on why pornos can have the same negative effect.

Overall, those making the argument against having scantily-clad women have valid points but I don't think it has to do with hating on beautiful women in games, just more that it sets an unrealistic precedent by making them most likely 2-dimensional characters with nothing interesting about them.

Now before you say it, and I know you will say it, yes, unrealistic representation of men can also have a negative consequence on men and women alike.

Gamespot is not part of "The Left Wing". They are a video game website that does whatever they think will make them the most money. The policy is in place because they think parents of 13 year old kids wont let them go on the site if there are too many sexy pics, and they will lose members. They are not part of the global conspiracy to deprive you of cartoon boobs.

2. The right and conservatives are far far bigger prudes. They want games banned outright. Porn and sex toys as well. Hell, even yoga pants.

its brainwashing kids to expect people to look a certain way. I am not a SJW but I am honestly tired of the games with TONS of fan service in it. That takes away from the content of the game in my opinion...if I wanted to see perfect tits and azz as well as a "factory" prettied up face, i'd go to the many pron sites on the internet and have a nice jerk off session. Overt sexualization is honestly annoying as hell. Its done frankly wayy too much in movies and now even games. I was watching the movie "IT" yesterday, and thought the main female character was very beautiful. Now that would not be a problem...if she wasn't playing a 15 year old character--I wasn't too turned on by her but the sexual suggestions they made throughout were frankly un necessary and over the top. Bottom line I don't want to see pretty guys and girls everywhere in games--model it after the world and all its imperfections. I just want to have fun without thinking...oh great another effd up marketting scheme thats all.

Like eminem said in one of his songs: "fuk bitches, give me a fat chick who cooks and does dishes."

its brainwashing kids to expect people to look a certain way. LOL this is a funny comment.

So i bet that games also brainwash kids into thinking they can fly and do magic or be superheroes? or any of the hundreds of other things there is in games.

Also what about movies or tv?

theres a thin line between distorted sense of reality vs imagination. Id put flying/magic/superheroes into the imagination category. The overt perfectly sexual people on television, games, ads and everywhere else--that is distorted reality. If I see more ugly fat people in TV or video games, I think i'd be a happier person overall, LOL!

I find it hilarious that regressive leftists are anti-sex considering that traditionally, it has been the right that has been overwhelmingly repressive.

What are you talking about? Characters like Quiet and games like Dead or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball aren't bad because "leftists are anti-sex" but because those characters and games are embarrassing and cringe af.

Speaking from personal observation, but it seems like there's a not-insignificant correlation between how deeply involved a teenage boy is into the world of gaming/ "nerd culture" broadly and how badly unrealistic his expectations are for sex and relationships in general. I was that kid back in middle school and early high school, but I managed to grow the **** up. Some of them don't and then grow up into weird , creepy motherfuckers like Elliot Rogers who wants to "punish women for rejecting them" or some shit like that.

this is such a strange thread.

VERY weak attempt to make it into a political thing.

Have you watched tv or a movie lately? or in the last 20 years. Because what is shown in gaming as to sexy females are not any different from what you see in ads , movies, tv´s and especially not in a teens life.

Sex sells and especially female sexiness is something that sells very well, it´s just a fact of life.

And the unrealistic view does not come from gaming, have you met the internet? and it´s major hit porn.

So basically what you're saying OP is that rather than like the right who try to ban things they don't like, the left actually get involved and try to improve them.

What exactly is the problem?

So, this wouldnt be a problem with gaming right?

This would be a problem with isolationism, but its also something most people seem to grow out of as they hit the real world and have to work.

Elliot Rogers is a bad example because from what we know, he had those issues since he was a child thus suggesting its biological. Bad wiring from the start. And we've always seen Elliot Rogers in society, they dont even have to be isolated in their life because its a malfunction.

I'm a social liberal and don't have a problem with either unrealistic, objectified women or realistic, strong women in video games. And hell, I've been in full support of more sexuality in video games for years now. I'm glad things like the Sakura franchise are becoming so popular, we need to break this taboo about sex in the West. It's far healthier for a child to be exposed to sexual content than violent content, realistic or not.

Just evangelicals aka 2017 SJWs of the left.

They're pretending to be real progressive now.

People love to talk about what cost the Democrats the election, I'd say it was the feminazis attack on gamers that pushed the whole anti-PC culture with gamers and pushed them of the arms of the lunatic right and alt-right and basically elected Donald Trump. I mean, you hear all the this and that state only lost by a few thousand votes and another by a bit more and I think "oh jeez, easily that amount and more could have been gamers who found their way to Breitbart.

Sure, that was a stupid position for many liberal to take, but it would be an even dumber decision to put the fate of the country in the hands of a stark raving mad narcissistic megalomaniac, and nearly all the Republicans in House and Senate who are just as bad quite frankly. I mean, sure, sucks to have the gaming industry invaded by prudes, but trying to take away millions of people's healthcare, breaking diplomatic relations with our closest allies, and risking a nuclear war with North Korea, I mean, shit, way to put your identity politics before things that really matter.

I believe the violent instead of sexual content is a very American thing. Or maybe it is a religious thing?

What are the Sakura games about?

It is echos of religion, not nationalism. It is all about looking down upon the other, not a common bond. Americans also have nothing against sex. They just love ragging on other people's sexuality a bit more then other places. The more trivial the better of course, and it does not get more trivial then a cartoon who's bathing suit area is covered. Almost the perfect target.

I mean seriously, America will tune in by the tens of millions to watch Jaime Lannister force his big sister into incest on the sarcophagus of their child in the middle of their mourning. Can't really claim America has a problem with sex, sexuality, or even crazy extreme kink when such content resonates with so many Americans. They do however love insulting the sexuality of those they have classified as other. How else could they tune in for forcible incest with necro implications and still declare themselves morally superior?

Some people look down on guys who long for the schlong, some look down on nerds who wiggle for animated jiggle. It is about the only thing the right and the left can agree upon, even if they traditionally disagree on targets.

@lamprey263: Its odd how Trump is popular with basement dwelling virgin gamers when he has spoken in favour of censoring video games and restricting pornography.

Trump voters are the perfect example of cutting of your nose to spite your face
