Poll Should Parler be eradicated? (53 votes)

Yes! Only Nazi's go there 45%
No! It's a private company and censorship is bad 42%
Depends! ( explain) 13%

https://www.google.com/amp/s/deadline.com/2021/01/parler-ceo-says-service-dropped-by-every-vendor-and-could-end-the-company-1234670607/amp/

For those who don't know what Parler is it's basically Facebook without the censorship

Big tech goes after Parler. With Apple and Google removing the apps and Amazon kicking them off their servers Parler will soon seize to exist. This is due to Parlers refusal to censor conservative opinions.

Apparently some of the Capitol protesters communicate on the app and for that big tech is squasing it.

What are your thoughts on this?

Heck, no. I like that there's a public forum where all the nuts go to proudly declare that they're nuts and explain why. I kind of wish it was still on facebook and twitter for broader exposure.

hell no....there needs to be an absolutely neutral social media platform that doesn't violate peoples freedom of speech. Facebook and suckerberg need some competition.

Major corporations sitting back and crying victim that they're not a "publisher" and then accuse their competition of being a "publisher" for doing the same thing they do and work together to get said competition expunged is going to create some very interesting future case law.

I think they should survive so the far right nutjobs can stay in one place. But the issue is if they can find someone who will host them. Free market capitalism is a bitch I guess.

Depends on if they clean up their act and keep the violence away. People have the right to say what they want but you cannot expect private companies to amplify violence. They can be held liable.

Should we pass laws against companies who choose not to host them? Kinda like how we expect Restaurants to have no discrimination against who they serve?

I'm a Capitalist, so no. The only exceptions are if it was due to race, religion, gender. Seems like those CEO's don't want to deal with the unpopularity and disdain the users of that platform bring - and result in a potential revenue loss in there of.

That being said I don't think they should have done that. Let the crazies stay in one place, contain them.

I think the owners of Parlor should find someone who is comfortable hosting a violent cesspool of ignorant morons. Until then, they're e-Tenets, and as such are subject to certain conditions i.e. clean up death threats. Companies aren't obligated to host content they don't want to.

However, if anyone want to suggest breaking up monopolies on Cloud hosting services, providers, etc., I'm all game for it. Let's enforce monopolization laws across the board. Amazon? Sure deal. Google? Let's get 'em? Sinclair broadcasting. HELL YEAH. NewsCorp? Break it all up.

I don't object to Parlor existing. If extremists want to migrate to their insular little echo chamber then so be it. It'll just make it easier for the FBI to monitor them all. But let's quit acting like this is a 1st amendment issue. It isn't.

The cultists were cheering Trump when he wanted to punish these platforms for hosting content he did not like, now they get a taste of the other end of the stick and suddenly it's a bad thing. Ok.

You can say that it's a good thing that the nut jobs have a place to expose themselves, but in reality that is the primary reason why their ideals are spreading and they mobs can organize attacks like 1/6. After all, before Internet in general, the cultist mindset existed (no matter which side you think is the cult), but they were not visible and/or bold enough to act, because they did not have a platform to find like minded people to organize together and find validation.

So my view is that banning these apps/forums/platforms/whatever will allow the more moderate people to not be radicalized, while the already radicalized will feel isolated again and won't be able to spread their ideas and coordinate with other wackos (most won't be motivated/smart enough to use the darknet as a replacement for the convenient and widespread platforms like Parler).

@blaznwiipspman1: You think Parler is neutral? Lmao! I have been there, it is so biased in favor of the right it’s almost a parody.

Unless they can get proper moderation then yes it should go. That’s capitalism, no company has to host them.

Do you have to provide your KKK membership card in order to use it? No, so that makes if neutral. /s

@silentchief: Parler totally bans people. It's not a free speech platform, it's a safe space. But hey, it's their platform, they can do what they want.

As to the question, no, I don't think it should be eradicated.

The far right needs their safe spaces where they can plan their terrorist attacks without big tech come in and censor them by saying "you can exist but maybe don't plan terrorist attacks".

It's unacceptable that they are forcing people who've been thriving on hatred, genocide and slavery through history to break with their traditions. What kind of world is this? Now they have to meet in person and risk getting Covid19. Good thing in their meetings a white hood is mandatory.

Thanks Obama!

@yessir: It's kinda how mentally unstable, homicidal reject in society can find a group of friends that think just like them. They find their way on the internet. The internet is a powerful tool and Bigfoot can find Miss Bigfoot on a dating site.

One can be the most vile and disgusting individual in society bent on wanting to cause harm and be a menace: unlikely anyone would want to be their friend in their home town because they're nuts.

Where do they find like-minded people that are just as crazy as they are? Chat rooms, The dark web, etc.

When psychos unite and exist in their own private sectors, away from everything else: the more they express and understand each other's sadistic viewpoints, and the more they'll accept it's normal, and the more they think they're superior to everyone else in society.

Psychos meet their kind, find their isolated corners, and bring a sense of normality based on that confirmation bias. This could be the recipe for disaster.

Does Parler have the right to exist?

I mean if the owner(by any and all means) can't fund servers to host it and no company wants to host it on their servers...

It seems like their option then is to be owned by the government and have them foot the bill.

I mean.... Twitter, Facebook, etc are tools used by these people to plan seditious acts, as well. Even if we condemn Parler, we have to acknowledge that.

That said, I don't see anything wrong with other entities black-holing Parler - they are companies that can do what they like. Likewise they can also chose what content to show on their sites.

This isn't a censorship issue anyway - it's a business decision made by these companies to not be associated with Parler.

Wasn't sure whether to post this here or in the Twitter thread. It's quite a nice stage-setter on big tech and Trumpism. It's also more balanced than some might expect from the BBC.

Trump's America is closer to "becoming China" than any recent president in my life time (both Bush's, Clinton, Obama). Mainland Chinese citizens hate being "politically correct" as much as western alt-rightists do. Plus love "freedom for me, but not for thee" attitudes all the same when it comes to supporters and his own administration.

They just do it more 'Murican so they can do the "well, it's different because" card.

Liberals say social media is a private company and they can censor how ever they want and if you don't like it move to a platform that fits you better.

So the Republicans do just that and now the platform was deplatformed and liberals say you get what you deserve.

Seriously the liberals only care because it is the right being censored. So what the left is saying Twitter, Facebook, or any social platform could sensor BLM, Amnesty International, and the list goes on and on. Would you be okay with that?

It was de-platformed because it relied on another companies product. Not that hard to figure out.
