The Hill

A plurality of American voters believe President Trump is the worst commander in chief since the end of World War II, a poll released Wednesday found.

The Quinnipiac University survey showed 41 percent of American voters think Trump is the worst of the 13 presidents who have held the office since 1945. The same poll also shows Trump with a 38 percent approval rating.

Twenty-one percent of those surveyed said Barack Obama was the worst president since World War II, and 10 percent picked Richard Nixon.

Ronald Reagan is considered the best post-World War II president by 28 percent of respondents, according to the poll, followed by Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and John F. Kennedy.

Trump ranks fifth on the list of best presidents since the end of World War II, the poll found, with 7 percent of voters.

Trump has frequently described his presidency in historical terms. He has touted the lowest black unemployment rate "in history" under his administration, and said he signed the largest tax cut "in history" into law late last year.

He has also often said his administration accomplished more in its first several months than any president in history.

Trump's approval rating, however, has generally hovered in the mid- and upper- 30s, according to Quinnipiac University polls.

When can we wake up from this nightmare?

Checks out.

Probably the worst president the country has ever had. Genuinely will never not be stunned at how someone with no knowledge or qualifications for the job managed to fail upwards all the way to the Oval Office.

sad to say it has been predicted for sometime now that authoritarian style governing will increase and that given the lack of good education in this country it will be poorly run as well.

basically I am saying, what was predicted 20 years ago has been coming true

reason for the rise in authoritarianism by the way has been predicted because of the massive social change technology brings. basically during eras of massive change, authoritianism tends to be stronger (I think got that idea right not sure)

Grant, and the few before him were using the treasury as their personal bank and expanded slavery. So I agree with you there.

If you're a hardcore socialist/SJW, yes Trump is the worse thing to ever happen.

To say it's a straight up nightmare at the mere thought of a Democrat winning without knowing the specific candidate is extremely tribal and not based off any fact. The economy historically does better under Democratic Presidents. Republicans seem to be primarily the party who denies Climate Change. Red states on average are worse off than Blue states when looking at all economy, education, and health. Democrats have their downsides, but to automatically say it's bad is laughable.

Furthermore, Trump had the lowest approval in history for a first year as president, certainly most Americans disagree with your nightmare prospect, and seem to apply it to our current president if we go by that. Many Americans would also disagree with your nightmare scenario when it comes to several very popular topics such as climate, guns, daca, weed, net neutrality, etc.

@nintendoboy16: Even as a liberal, I wouldn't consider 45 to be the worst yet. He is still abysmal. His trade warfare is nonsensical, none of his big policies are moving in a Republican congress that should further their agenda, his entire cabinet is awful with the exception of McMaster and Kelly, and his communications, if you can call it that, is by far the worst we have ever seen. What separates him from the worst is the lack of national or global atrocities caused by his administration. He didn't spark a civil war yet, or start any foreign conflict, and the economy is still afloat. However, his tax plan could inflate the bubble Obama used as a cushion to a point of a risk of massive recession like we had in 2008. The future looks bleak with him and that's why I hope a Democratic wave is huge. It won't make the future bright, per se, but certainly a lot better.

You are both objectively incorrect.

The polls such as the one in the OP and approval polls are based off of national opinion polling. National opinion polls were correct for the 2016 (and 2012,2008,2004,2000,etc.) election. These are highly accurate measures on average. You two are thinking of electorate maps, electorate predictions, and/or county polls.

Speaking of echo chambers (and ignoring shitty tribal memes) a majority of this country is not liberal, they are independent. According to these Americans, Trump had the lowest approval in history for year 1, as well as the TC's topic results.

Regardless of whether or not you consider him to be a good or bad president, is this the highest White House turnover rate we have seen before? It seems like there's somebody leaving every other week at this point.

Keep in mind that he is the current president, which will increase both the enmity and love that he gets, the number of people voting him as the best, and worst president are both going to be exaggerated.

That's true to an extent. You could make a poll turn out your way too if you purposely ask people who are against or for that certain something. Then it would look like the majority agrees with what you wanted. But that shouldn't discredit EVERY poll. Like how the polls that said Hillary Clinton was going to win by a landslide was wrong, it doesn't mean that suddenly EVERY one of them should be wrong.

What nightmare?

The only nightmare is the left and the prospect of 2020 being a democratic win.

You'd honestly Trump get a second term than the democrats win?

Damn you guys had your joke, shook up the regime with a clown instead of a serious candidate. Statement made, we get it.

I'd rather a third party win, personally, but in terms of preference it's: 1.) third party, 2.) democrat, 3.) not-Trump Republican

Was talking to my friend, my best friend actually, who voted for Trump and he said he voted for Trump to make a statement. I asked him if he thought Trump was a good president and he said "**** no" but he voted to keep Clinton out, not to put Trump in. Do most Trump voters feel this way? Obviously party loyalty is a factor--once a republican, always a republican--but it just shocks me that so many people still feel the need to keep Trump in office.

The time has come and gone for this charade to end. Would be nice to see Republican voters vote for a third party.

The chances of a 3rd party win are as likely as Hilliary running again in 2020. But I am actually with you on that, I would rather have someone decent 3rd party candidate to win than a Democrat. But I would also support a Republican candidate over let´s say a democratic candidate like Oprah running.

And to be honest i am like your friend, i voted for Trump because having Hilliary there was not just a viable solution, it would have been a disaster for the country. And also he is not a good president, so far he is a horrible president with a few rays of sunshine, like DAca, Trade, Tax, and the reroll of a lot of the Obamera´s shit.

So it will depend on what democratic candidate is running and also what their platform is, if it´s just a "reboot to before Trump" i would not dream of voting for that.

He's the worst president we've ever had. He makes Bush Jr look intelligent, competent, and dignified by comparison.

I don't know about that, but "worst since WWII". This is the type of histrionics that got him elected in the first place. If you only listen to the rhetoric of the mainsteam media then you would obviously believe this is the case. In terms of the actual legislation that has been passed, this is hardly the case for even the most staunch leftist.

This outrage culture is divisive. It only deprives situations of any perspective and serves to leave the masses less informed and more narrow minded and fearful.

The problem here is that liberals are not critiquing the president based on his policies, they are critiquing because they don't agree with what he says and they continually try to push the narrative that Trump is a racist, bigot, sexist, homophobe and a xenophobe with zero evidence. This is literally on CNN 24 hours a day and it makes it almost impossible to watch. CNN, the New York Times, and the Washington Post (all left leaning) said that his tax reform was garbage and they erroneously reported that it was going to cost Americans billions of dollars which simply wasn't true. There is a pretty funny video of a guy going around telling them about Trump's tax reform plan, but he says that it is "Bernie Sanders" tax plan and they love it! This all ties into the left created identity politics which is a huge issue in America because now the left is saying certain people don't have an opinion based on their race, sex and political nullification, but isn't this undermining everything that the civil rights movement achieved? Another really bad thing about the left, which sas been happening for quite awhile now, is that they keep insisting that opinions and feelings trump facts and evidence and this is not only making people in America stupid, but it is ruining America because now facts simply don't mean anything. If the left continues on this path, then I have some serious worries about the future of America.

I think accusations of racism and sexism need to stop unless there is evidence to back them up and no just because you are offended doesn't necessarily mean that there was a racist or even sexist intent. Try actually critiquing policies and then we can discuss whether or not the policies or good, but this whole, "Trump is the worst president ever" argument, which has nothing do with any of his policies is absolutely ridiculous. I am not even that big of a Trump fan, I do think he says dumb things, but I haven't seen any racism, sexism, or bigotry. If there is evidence of racism then it is probably racist, but if there isn't evidence of racism then it probably isn't racist. Feelings and emotions are not more important than facts and evidence.

Most of them don't even know or care what Trumps policies are. The media isn't interested in the truth, they're interested in being as divisive as possible because that's what gets them ratings. Lefties don't hesitate to criticize Fox News despite CNN being the parody of all parody news sources.

The narrative that Trump and his far-right politics came out of no where and polarized the nation is just not true. The reality is that Trump's policies are far more centered than mainstream conservatives in recent decades. It is the left that has polarized the nation. Mainstream leftist talking points of today would have been fringe radical talking points just 6-8 years ago.

Protip: If you think Sargon of Akkad is "Alt-Right" or even "Far-Right" then you are too far from the center to be considered reasonable.

Nothing I said was "untrue", you're just trying to justify the hysteria.

1. Conjecture. This is like me saying Bernie Sanders base is pure Antifa.

2. You say "BUT" as if there's any justification for a supposedly honest media to be "unfair". This is pure partisan bias. No reasonable person excuses media dishonesty.

3. I expect people to do their jobs in a professional manor. This "it was just a reaction, what do you expect" justification for abhorrent behavior isn't even rational for a juvenile.

@Johnny-n-Roger: I mean the left thinks that Ben Shapiro, a Jewish traditional conservative, is not only alt-right, but a radical who promotes hate speech. If someone says that then they clearly haven't heard him speak.

1. Most people are either moderate, conservative or liberal, but people who are on the far ends of each spectrum are in the vast minority. When people say silly things like Trump's base is far-right or alt-right then they are making an incorrect over generalization.

2. The media started this war, not Trump. This is the same liberal media that said he was going to get obliterated in the election and lose in a landslid defeat against Hillary, that didn't happen. The problem with the media is that they are acting like they are just trying to present the facts, but in reality they are just trying to push a political agenda. I would have a lot more respect for them if they admitted their biases. Let's spin this around- if the conservative media was attacking Obama the way that the liberal media has been attacking Trump then there would be an absolute shit storm: the seas would dry up and the Earth would stop spinning.

3. Again, the liberal media started this war- they bashed Trump during the election and all throughout his campaign. In the end, it was Trump and us conservatives who got the last laugh.

3. then you are not thinking. Its not a value question, its a cause and effect question. For example, if someone cuts you off and they are in the wrong, if you pull them over and call them a mother F7cker despite you being right, you as an intelligent human being should be able to predict that said person might hit back, REGARDLESS of your sense of justice. From a stradegy point of view its retarded to think that if you decaler war on the media and the FBI that they are not going to covertly attack back. it being the right thing to do or not is not the point, its cause e and effect. I would call being that blinded for justice is being SJW about the question

The idea that alot of Obama voters had to vote for Trump for him to get elected is a fact. I guess all of those people that voted for Obama spontaneously morphed into far-right toothless and racist bigots. These people will never consider that is their position that has changed, not everyone else's.

And I've also read a couple of times that Sargon of Akkad is Alt-Right. Only straight SJW liberals believe that. People like that don't want to have a discussion. They just want to label you as a bigot.

The political divisions we have today aren't because of Trump and the conservatives. It's a direct result of radical leftism becoming mainstream politics.

They are. His core voter base consists of what could best be described as "white nationalists." Most of them probably aren't going to put on a Swastika armband or a white hood. They're of the more casual racist variety. But you are delusional if you think their political beliefs are far off from the guys who marched on Charlottesville.

Agreed, but that is the deal with most of liberals on these boards. I mean he literally is saying that most of the people that support Trump are on the far right.... its ridiculous and it's pretty dumb.

They are. His core voter base consists of what could best be described as "white supremacists." Most of them probably aren't going to put on a Swastika armband or a white hood. But you are delusional if you think their political beliefs are far off from the guys marching on Charlottesville.

Those guys are fringe and account for a small percentage of Trumps voters.

How delusional you must be to think that you understand the politics of a Trump voter from within your leftist echo chamber.

Because I frequent alt-right forums where Trump is popular so I can understand how you people think. I even pose as one of you.

The conclusion I've come to is that you're a bunch of bigoted shitheads who are still sour about a black guy getting elected. You hate women. You hate gay people. You hate minorities. And you want to turn back the clock on any kind of social progress.

You don't "frequent" alt-right forums. You probably lurked on /pol/ for 15 minutes, got the perspective of a couple shit posters and made up your mind. Worldview complete.

What a cartoonish understanding of reality. The Alt-Right doesn't even like Trump.
