Here's hoping his administration lasts about the same time and his party has the same fall from grace.

The comparisons in the link don't bode well for his memory either.

What say you?

I think when evaluating Trump there is a part that the Left actually dont put into play as much as they should.

That is that most of his decisions are likely coming from Putin. That puts things in a lot more clearler context I think

Trump is basically Pat Buchanan 20 years later. No originality, just opportunism.

Kinda worrying that it is expected to be all forgotten in rather short time.

I actually think he has a fair amount in common with Carter. Wait, ouch, stop, hear me out! Trump is coming in at a time when we are starting to see the long term side effects of Reagan policy. Slow wage growth (the recent uptick is only paralleling an increase to the inflation rate), tax cuts, military buildup, deficit spending, and such. And his solution is to do what Reagan did, only harder. Carter had much the same strategy but with FDR policy. There are holes in my theory, but I do think the parallels are there.

Also, both got a lot of money from the Mercer family.

@horgen: I don't know. He destroyed the party that enabled him and relegated his policy proposals to the dustbin of for decades. Something about that is reassuring.

Love that wishful thinking from your part.

Right now it seems the democratic party is going to be far more "destroyed" after this than the republican.

The problem with the far-left winning like Cortez is that they are hardcore socialists and as we saw during the primaries, not even Sanders could get the moderate and independents on his side.

Love you missing his point.

Trump rubbed elbows with the elite.

He knows a lot that we don't know, sadly he is just dumb.

I'm hoping Trump does to the Republican Party what Fillmore did to the Whig Party. In a post Trump world I could definitely see Republicans becoming unelectable anywhere outside of the most backwards shithole parts of the Deep South. What I also find interesting is that Fillmore was so disliked that almost no one even remembers him aside from historians.

Unfortunately. this applies to both sides, whether it's the liberal majority in this forum, or the conservative majority in the comments sections of Fox News articles.

Those were my exact sentiments before, with some elements of Buchamann (namely the absolute ineptitude).

To be fair, BBC are Centrist. Some call them center left, but since most of their journalists are affiliated with the Conservative Party, I find it more fair to call them center right.

I never said that. I just posted that to point out that echo chambers are not a good idea.

This forum is an example of an echo chamber, since if myself and maybe three or four other posters didn't post every once in awhile, then it would be nothing but Trump bashing.

@ad1x2: I don't think anyone gets the bulk of their news from this forum. Echo chambers are typically voluntarily entered into by staying within a range of outlets/sources that cater to a particular audience who share the same set of beliefs (and then reinforce those beliefs).

Such hurt over people who see the disaster trump is. You might just consider he's NOT a good president rather than making excuses for him.

Remember, though, that it still took almost a century after him to get a president and congress dedicated to a true progressive agenda, that in between you got an era of American history full of monopolization and political rule by a wealthy elite, and that his downfall was a contributing factor to an all-out civil war. Comparing the present to that time is almost like saying "the rest of your life is going to suck hard, but maybe if things go exactly right your grandchildren might live in a better world long after you're dead."

Jimmy Carter was actually the original "neo-liberal" (scare quotes because I think that word is next to meaningless). Though he did run on a platform of civil rights and largely peaceful foreign policy, he was also pushing policies of reducing government welfare spending and balanced budgets. One of my everlasting beefs with the anti-neo-liberal crowd is how they seem to largely canonize Carter while completely eviscerating Clinton, when the two were in truth extremely similar.

@ad1x2: if you think this place is an echo chamber, check out Reset ERA. That place is flat out fascist in its intolerance of even the slightest divergence from extreme Leftism and Trump/straight white male/cop bashing. I think very low of Trump and even I got banned there. It’s absurd.
