Trump, Biden Might Not Debate in 2024 as Republicans Ditch Organizing Group

Surprised this hasn't been brought up yet. Seems Republicans won't be participating in future presidential debates.

If I had to guess, they can't compete on substantive policy that Democratic Party backs and has the support of a majority of voters, and instead the GOP hopes to win by hammering on social issues.

Not surprising, they are wrong on most topics on an objective level. Imagine them having to discuss Covid, Book Bans, or Climate Change. Oof.

MSNBC CNN CBS all lean left and too much internal bias. Legacy media just isn't appropriate for these debates anymore. It truly needs to be non partisan for these to make sense.

Really got bad durring 2016, especially with Hillary Clinton getting the questions before the debates. They should have done this in 2020 imo.

Better late than never.

Its true, FOX was biased towards trump. They wanted Cruz.

Look at Chris Wallace who did the FOX debates in 2020. Left to work for CNN+ which is pretty funny because CNN+ failed already after 1 month lol

Legacy media is dying, only boomers care about it. CNN is one of the worst, they rode so hard on being anti trump the network doesn't know what to do anymore. too many times caught lying, too many scandals covering for politicians.

"Executives at Discovery were not impressed: At any given time, fewer than 10,000 people were watching the service, said two people familiar with the numbers, who were not authorized to speak publicly. (On Thursday, Mr. Morse said he was leaving the network entirely.)"

Look, I have no respect for the party backing out of debates, but the current way they are done is close to worthless. Discussing complex subjects two minutes at a time is not enough.

If the GOP can come up with an alternative idea that seems reasonable, it might be worth trying out.

What does it even matter? It's not the GOP actually has a platform or actually stands for anything beyond unburdening the wealthy from regulation and taxation, anyway.

@tjandmia: true, but to keep the power they have they can't risk jeopardizing it by giving voters any idea what they stand for (or don't stand for), i, meantime they continue to redraw states to gerrymandering more seats for the House, and weaken their states voting laws, so I think it matters in the larger scheme of things

The left has banned books for decades and still does. You are mildly delusional at this point.

Now imagine the left having to define gender or explain the record inflation and not having a leftwing media outlett preparing questions for them the whole time.

They LEFT aren't the ones who are no longer participating in debates 😂

Because you mentioned having to have a debate and mentioned book banning.. the left would have to explain it as well as they have done the exact same thing.

You use red herrings and whataboutisms all the time. So enjoy s taste of your own medicine.

The left didn't just bow out of every future POTUS debates, nor did they recently ban or remove over 1,600 books. It's for the best I guess, they wouldn't do well in debates with all the recent lunacy.

So lower the thresholds for debates and hold them without the GOP.

The alternative is to read in depth policy proposals. That's always been the case, and debates have always been worthless as a method to debate policy proposals.

What they are good at is providing high profile media attention to candidates.

One of the largest leftwing networks who hosted the Debate. The answer should be 0.

The rest of your rant sounds like a cringe inducing projection.

Neither did the right. They just want common sense reform that for some reason the left won't agree to. The left can't have a debate unless it's 3 vs 1.

Debates are an important part of the democratic process, and the RNC is committed to free and fair debates," RNC ChairwomanRonna McDanielsaid in a statement. "The Commission on Presidential Debates is biased and has refused to enact simple and commonsense reforms to help ensure fair debates including hosting debates before voting begins and selecting moderators who have never worked for candidates on the debate stage."

If you are oddly referring to a one-off in 2016, why didn't they decline the 2020 debates? You're making excuses for the GOP, and it's actually weird and make no sense.

GOP has unpopular plans and don't want the voters to know it. So they're hiding like the snowflakes they are. If you can't debate policy, you don't deserve to win anyway.

An employee from one network sharing 2 emails in 2016 and then being fired is the reason they are cancelling the 2024 Presidential debates!

The 2 cons in this thread must be on the strongest kool-aid.

Yeah, I thought they meant the entire setlist was presented for the debate. The questions could even be held up to coincidence based on the place of the debate (someone at a Flint MI debate would obviously be asking about the poisoned water).

Wouldn't surprise me if rumors about questions have been passed along to candidates for decades

Yeah, I wouldn't go to a debate either if I was the single greatest threat to American Democracy and had nothing constructive to say. GOP policy is super unpopular at the moment, all they have left is culture war; and if you try to argue that in a controlled setting, you lose.

The Democrats should still have a "debate"; or rather, they should still have an open forum and let a panel of journalists ask them tough questions. Even if they can't argue against the opposing party, they can still have their voices heard.

Their message should be "We showed up for America to see us and hear us. Did the GOP?"

The right has plenty to capitalize on right now besides "culture war" politics.

But culture is important too, politics is downstream from what happens culturally so it has an impact.

All of which started in 2020 during Trump, and are global. They know they'll get skewered in a POTUS debate if they bring this up.

Yeah, not really a problem exclusive to America or Democrats. This is a worldwide issue that would have impacted whatever party was in charge.

But you're right, of course, GOP will probably just try to blame the democrats. Capitalize on it, as you said, because lord knows they don't have any solutions to anything. All they have is culture war and blame democrats.

The question I have for you is: how should the GOP capitalize on it? Would they offer objective and constructive solutions? Common-sense policy changes? Or just blame the Democrats?

Lol stop projecting...

I'm literally just talking about the original post and thread title. Sorry for using an apt description of the GOP regarding this event.

The term was even made to describe

People who run from debates. 😉

@silentchief said:

Neither did the right. They just want common sense reform that for some reason the left won't agree to. The left can't have a debate unless it's 3 vs 1.

Wait what debate was 3v1 from 2020? What network did this for Biden vs Trump? Also what network prepared questions for Democrats in 2020?

Sounds fake. This all seems like scared snowflakes to me.

@zaryia: one of the moderators in 2020 used to ******** work for Biden.

That's nonsense

this is a smart move

If they really want to make waves, have Trump announce his presidential run on the Joe Rogan Experience. Trump can ask Rogan to host a debate between him and Biden lol

Then stop using the term Soyboy as it was made to describe liberal males. Come up with your own shit.

Why would democratic strategist need to moderate a debate? And yes that did happen in 2020.

Sounds like reasonable reform.

Libs can't debate without home field advantage. That's why they won't agree to common sense reform.

No. I'll use any insult I prefer for these cowards. Thanks for the concern though.

How many times and networks? Was it really 3v1 or were you mad about the persons past employment? Seems like they are crying and bitching about nothing substantial.

They can't? There was no Presidential debates in 2020 without a Democrat strategist?

Who was this? Do you have proof they were they biased in the overall questions? How many debates had this happen for all of the 2020 debates?

Sounds like the GOP are being soy.

You have a point. Look at this photo of a low testosterone, affeminate Democratic congressman that's making the rounds in the current news cycle:
