Maybe because some games are only 720p? :? And the 360 doens't play games in 1080p native. It only upscales them.

most games on ps3 are at 720p only and games for xbox 360 can support up to 1080p...but 720p is still good tho

wat he said, this is where ppl think that every game is 1080p on xbox, native when they actually 720 or lower only upscale, there are some games in 1080p or upscale them but most games are only 720p for now

The last 4 games i bought:

Infamous,

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Assassins Creed 2

Borderlands

All except Infamous will play in 1080p. My TV auto switches depending on the resolution and they all play in what it say on the box.

Upscaled or not, (which i don't think they are) they all look excellent

some games look just a little better on 360 in "upscaled" 1080P, like borderlands did but is it really the difference tween 1080 and 720 or does it have something to do with some game developers building on 360 and then porting to PS3. i love infamous i rented and took it right back and bought it. gonna go out in a few and rent a couple more games any recommendations? im new to the PS3 world but eager to explore.

I thoroughly recommend Killzone 2

It's only in 720 ;) but it is the single most beautiful game on the PS3

i tried to play killzone 2 but could not get into it. that first level and intro didnt look like anything special to me graphics wise, sure it had some nice touches but for the most part another grey, bleak, colorless space marines game to me. but then again i didnt play it for too long for all i know it coulda got better. i really tried to play on longer too but just couldnt. also i have a huge problem with the ps3 controller! its way too small and the left analog stick is in the wrong place.

has anyone used the DreamGear brand PS3 controller? its kinda a PS3 360 hybrid third party controller

most games are in 720 because the human eye (for most of us) cannot detect the difference in pixel rate between it and 1080. unless your screen is larger than 60 inches. im also told that games seem to run better in that resolution. as for games looking better on the 360, those are multi-plat games that are generally developed with the 360 in mind and ported over to the ps3 because of the lack of knowlege and fear that devs have over working with sonys processor.

FYI i almost never quit playing a game as early as i did killzone 2. many games dont get really good in the first level/ early moments and take a minute to get going real good but u know when u play a game u dont like right away and you know when there no way thats gonna change farther into the game

If you want the PS3 to upscale your games to 1080p, go to the display settings and make 1080p the only checked resolution. As far as Resistance 2 goes, it's really good.

Yep same here. I think I read something about you need to have at least a 40" screen and you have to stand at least 3 meter right in front of it to see a difference between 720p and 1080p.

The PS3 version doesn't look as good as the 360 version..GameSpot did a comparison between the two and the PS3 version pretty much looked washed out while the 360 version looked crisp and displayed more detail.

Yeah my screen is 25'' and I can't tell the difference between 180p and 720p But even at a bigger screen I hear you still nee to have them side by side to tell the difference.

Yes, the Xbox 360 does play games in native 1080p, not all, infact not many at all, but like the PS3, the Xbox 360 can play native 1080p.

If its great, why does it matter?

The game (Uncharted 2) is 720p and not 1080p. You can try and force it to upscale to 1080p by unticking 720p. But I wouldnt bother, its meant to be played in its native resolution, just leave it. Regardless of this, if you have a 1080p TV, then your TV is upscalling the 720p image and outputting at the TV's native resolution, which in this case would be 1080p.

Very few Xbox 360 games are native 1080p. Most are upscalled, which is the same for the PS3, its just your TV is doing the scalling.

Im guessing all of them are upscalled. COD MW2 is 1080p upscalled as the native resolution of COD MW2 is about 600p.

You, Sir, are wrong! Nearly all games for the 360 are NOT 1080p. The 360 lies to you if she says those games are 1080p because it only upscales them. The PS3 is a righteous console and shows you the real resolution of the game.

I guess by monitor you mean for the PC? If so I guess your distance to the screen is like 50 cm. And with this small distance it's quite clear that the game looks awesome. But you can't tell me that you would see a difference between 720p and 1080p on a 5" screen ...

I ignore it because its wrong. The Xbox can do 1080p simple as that. I dont have a 360, nor do I want one.

360 games look just as good as PS3 games in 1080p..in fact it's sometimes better quality on the 360, this is already known. Coming to the PS3 forums expecting "honesty" is a long shot. I think the 360 looks gorgeous in 1080p as well as the PS3. And the 360 CAN do 1080p natively....and if it can't, show me the reputable docs showing/stating that it can't

The human eye can barely distinguish between 720p and 1080p, especially with TVs under 42" and sitting a certain distance away from the TV. It's just a number. Most of the people who complain that something isn't 1080p probably can't even tell the difference in the first place. And honestly, does that really take away from the enjoyment of a game?

The human eye can barely distinguish between 720p and 1080p, especially with TVs under 42" and sitting a certain distance away from the TV. It's just a number. Most of the people who complain that something isn't 1080p probably can't even tell the difference in the first place. And honestly, does that really take away from the enjoyment of a game? Wrong, totally wrong. The difference between 1080p and 720p is the same at 22" as it is at 100". There is no magic screen size number where they start to look better. Of course, the smaller the screen the closer you need to sit to it. The human eye can easily distinguish 1080p looks better than 720p on 22" screens, you just need to sit closer. The sooner this myth goes out the window the better.

Upscaled games look ugly, natural resolution is best.

Hey, it's HD and it's not 480p. I'd say there's nothing to complain about.

my thoughts exactly. All my TV does is 720p, and I think it looks orgasmic

Yep same here. I think I read something about you need to have at least a 40" screen and you have to stand at least 3 meter right in front of it to see a difference between 720p and 1080p.

Oooooh interesting. Anyway i play in 720p even though my tv does 1080i and 1080p(i think it does 1080p) and it looks great. Gottah get a hdmi wire off my friend, right now im playing with that other one, the multi coloured one(red, blue, green, red, white).

[QUOTE="dk00111"]If you want the PS3 to upscale your games to 1080p, go to the display settings and make 1080p the only checked resolution. As far as Resistance 2 goes, it's really good.

I've tried that, some games that were 720p ran in standard 480p. I find it best to keep both 720p and 1080p selected.

You should set your PS3 to output at 720p, 1080i and 1080p and then let the PS3 decide which is best to use. Regardless of this, if your TV is 1080p, then you are playing a 720p game upscaled to 1080p as that is the native resolution of your TV and it will always output at the native resolution unless you have black borders around your image.

No they are not. COD MW2 and COD WAW are both about 600p and are upscaled to 720p and or 1080p. Not sure what QoS is but at a guess, it wont be 1080p.
