Okay, i have been a 360 owner for the past year and a half now, but i am kind of getting sick of the RRoD.

So i have a question, after never owning a sony console before, what is the failure rate of the PS3? Becasue i am getting sick of my system never being reliable.

And even though i never played a MGS game in my life, MGS4 has me intrigued. i love stealth games and it looks kind of interesting...

Can i have some honest answers, i really need some advice!

Thank You!

wow, thats not cool at all...i had my launch 360 until earlier this year, it stopped reading discs...so i purchases a new console with the Falcon chip and its worked perfectly since Jan 08.

In any case, i think PS3 is more reliable and its a good choice of console

No official failure rate...anywhere between 3%- 13%. I was owened a 360. Bought it launch day and it RRoD for the first time after 2 years of use. It ticked me off because I was very careful with my PS3 and stuff. I sold my 360 and bought a PS3 back in November. So far, my 80g is playing flawlessly.

Wow dude, I got 2 stories for you so please pay attention:

1. I got my ps2 3 months after launch in 01. I played that thing everyday for 3 hours minimum until November 06, when I got my ps3, and that thing still works, I gave it to my niece. And I havent had any problems with my ps3 ever.

2. Envolves a couple of strippers but I'll leave that part out and get to the point. LMAO, that was an awesome night. My two cousins have had the same problem with the RROD but they're MS fans and won't switch, but always come to my house and play the PS3 when their 360's get sent off.

its less than 0.1%, i remember reading this figure somewhere a few months back, which is amazing in terms of a massively manufactured peice of hardware.

Mine stopped reading blu-ray disks after about 7 months. I am currently waiting to get my new PS3 sent to me. I think the failure rate is somewhere around 3% to %7. I have been hearing more and more about PS3 failing with some having the same problem mine had though.

Aw pecker. It seems I'm the only one to have had a problem, although I guess that's good. My PS3 developped the "yellow-light syndrome" a little while ago, but I got it sorted out and fixed in about 10 days. A bit disappointing, but it's all good now.

There's a very odd chance of getting a PS3 that is defective. It just has to be in a well-ventilated area, so in which it doesn't overheat and cause problems.(EX: Discs gettings hot, Fan Over-Use)

I had my PS3 for about a year now and it still works.

If, you got your PS3 at launch there could have been some problems with it,but now they fixed alot of those issues.

Now if you buy a PS3 you most likely wouldn't have any problems with it.

Well, from a personal stand point, I've only really seen or heard maybe 2 or 3 out of say, 20 with a problem. I myself, have never ever had a problem with a Sony console. Nintendo is pretty decent for a lower failure rate aswell with their systems. The only one I've ever really heard about (and still hear/read) is the XBox 360s getting sent back 4 times a month (not exactly, but you get what I mean).

3.33% is close enough.. The real answer is the magical 3.60% the percent of 360 still function from the first shipment. Where else did you think Microsoft come up with this creazy stupid name for their console?

I've owned my 60GB PS3 since last august and about a month ago sent it in for repair because it stopped reading discs. It just happened all of a sudden, tried all my PS3 games as well as my PS2. Got it back about two weeks after I sent it in. Good thing I kept the receipt or else I would have ended up paying around $150.

I've had mine for about 17 months and have not had any problems at all, not even freezing. My xbox however I got about 2 years ago and have had to send it back 2 times and it constantly freezes.

Ok, people please stop giving-out false percentages, we obviously know the PS3 failure rate is NOT below 1%, it's definitely between 5%-13%. These new figures are based on the release of the 40GB version which allot of people have been having issues with, such as getting yellow light etc. which is the equivalent of the 360 getting the 3RRoD. So that needs to be taken into account and not some old figure that was first talked about when the PS3 was in it's early life form.

I've had mine (80 gig purchased with the Motorstorm bundle) since that bundle was first released. It's been perfect, never had any problems with it. Not even a game freeze, crash, nothing. PS3 is the God of systems.

Retailers say that the 360 has a 33% defective rate. They all formulated the stats together, as Microsoft obviously lies about their defective stats. I worked at Gamestop for the first year that the 360 was released, and at that time it was more like a 60% defective rate. I had to deal with customers upset with their broken system all day every day.

I never knew it was just 1 model. I thought it was any model it happened to. Well, atleast it could be "buyer beware" with the 40 gigs

Could it be because they use cheaper parts for the 40GB and for newer models, in order to decrease he price?? I could be wrong, but that was the scenario for the PS2, but it had no problems.

I dunno if this helps, but all my friends had no problem with their ps3 except two of them who usually keep their system vertically placed each of them had a problem once wit their consoles but when they got them back andkept them horizontal, no more problems even after 1 year. This might not be true but that is my observation. Hope this helps.

~5% would be my best guess - some will say around 1% but I'm sure it's higher than that.

Just so you know, they both have 512 MB of RAM, just the PS3 has it split down the middle.

I checked the PS3 only has a 251mb ram & the 360 has a 512 mb ram, but the PS3 has discs (blu-ray) that hold up to 50 GB and the 360 like about under 30 GB & the Wii has 9.89 Gb or something like that range.

The PS3 is still more powerful than the 360.....will we all see that come true in the future as games start to use more of the true power of the PS3.

PS3 has 256MB of RAM for the CPU and 256MB for the CPU - the 360 has 512MB RAM used for both the GPU or CPU

I never heard of them breaking until my 60 gb broke the night I got MGS4. 2 of my friends broke. I already posted asking the night mine broke, and all I got was delusional fanboys ranting and raving. If you don't believe me search in google "my ps3 wont read disks". Their are alot of them breaking other than mine, and their is only a 1 year warranty. My 360 broke 1 time and got a new one that runs perfect. I got a new 40 gb refurbished ps3 and I will see if it breaks. I barely used my PS3, I bought it almost only for MGS4. I will still get flamed by fan boys that are delusional. Just so you know my friends broke after doing F @ H.

Myself and college roommate both bought the 40gb versions. His stopped reading discs after a couple of months, and mine started freezing and stopped reading discs after 6 months. So the failure rate has to be higher than 1%. Especially with the 40gb versions out.
