Keep your saves and delete your installations when you feel like you are done with the game.... You could also play your game right away from disc when it is installing. Not big deal unless you are going crazy with PS+ free instant games but even with those games, you can delete and install them later on multiple times if you want. If there are free instant game that you don't want to play right away but may in the long future like 9 months away, you can "purchase" it but not choose to install it.
That's more than enough space IMO, just delete an installed game once you're finished with it. I was used to doing that when I had my old 60GB PS3 model anyway.
I bought my 80GB Phat boy PS3 in 2009 and it's lasted until 2013 without me needing to upgrade the HDD (I don't download songs onto my systems etc.) I think 408GB will be more than enough and if it ain't just buy a 1TB HDD for it.
On the bright side I hear installing games is much quicker, so if you do delete a game installation and want to return to the game, it won't take long to do so. On the other hand, if you're downloading most games, that would be a pain to re-download them unless your internet is super fast.
I think I'll just go with the continuous uninstalling games to make room method for a while instead of tossing another immediate expense to my PS4 purchase. It should be a viable option for quite a while, but I'll only upgrade if I truly feel the need to keep more games installed at once.
Usually some of the space is meant for OS, future updates, future patches and stuff like that. I won't have any trouble with -only- 408 Gb. The first computer I bought had a whopping 3 Gb og storage...
Seriously? Complaining about 400+ GB on a HDD? What the heck are you storing on the thing for that not to be enough??
I like to have about 3 games at a time downloaded on the hdd that I am playing at that time. Since every game takes anywhere between 20GB to 55GB of space then yes I have a problem with only 408GB on a hdd.
Sony should have put a 1TB hdd in the PS4, but no be cheap now and in the next year or so sell a PS4 with a either 750GB or 1TB hdd for more money.
Some of the install sizes are pretty big. I think my ps4 is at about 300GB already. That's almost half left of the advertised storage.
I have noticed that things install rather quickly though so when the day comes that I get close to running out of space, I'll just clear out a bunch of the installs from games that I don't play anymore. Should only be a slight inconvenience if I want to play an old game again to remove something else to make room. Thankfully, the PS4 displays all the installs with their sizes very clearly.

Check the storage before you install anything and it says 408 GB. Between the OS and the fact that a "500 GB HDD" doesn't actually mean you get 500 GB of space, you are left with 408 GB.

@MarchingOrd3rZ: What are we storing? The games! Even disc based games install fully to the HDD. Believe me, I thought the same thing, I put a 320GB drive on my PS3 that's still half empty, including a good number of PS1 games and PS+ games. But these PS4 games are nuts.
How is it that DC Universe take up 20GBs, but Knack takes up almost 40GB??? I have a total of 8 games and I'm half way through this HDD. Knowing that disc games fully install to the HDD, 500GB is not enough.
Since the HDD on my PS3 has over 600GB of data without those stupid disc installs I'm thinking about getting a 7200rpm 2TB HDD or a 1TB HHD. Anyone knows what I need to look at? 2.5'' SATA, isn't it? How thick can it be?

500gb is a decent start but this gen utilizes hdd space differently. all games have a mandatory install. bf4 and kz both have 30+gb installs so at that rate were looking at approaching our limit with a library of 10-12 games. 500gb would be huge if we didnt have to install every game but since we do it isnt nearly as much space as some people are thinking
