I was just playing Fallout 3 and reached lvl 20. I was at some school and a bunch of raiders attacked me but luckily I had Cheron(sp?) with me and we wasted them...I walked outside and my ps3 shuts off. I tried to turn it on but a got a yellow flashing light.

Fallout usually makes my Ps3 freeze up but you guys think it killed it?

I hope your PS3 isn't under your pillow or something. Do you let it breathe?

Yeah it's in an opened area. I don't know what to do. I really don't want to give Sony another 150 dollars. And I have the 60 gig I don't want it replaced by an inferior model.

Such irony that the newer models are the inferior models. And the 60 GIG is such a rare find that Sony doesn't give a damn about fixing it *sigh*

I think a lot of people just don't treat their PS3 right. You got to let it breath like a PC does. Or it will die. And mostly because the dust will build up and kill it just like in a PC.

this is not good. My ps3 is just over 2 years old, and its kinda been freezing occasionally. It has plenty of room and stuff. I have just been ignoring it, because every console, will freezone once in a while. I havent tried my blu ray in a bit, i should test that soon.

Fallout didn't kill your PS3 - however it does sound like you may be a victim of the dreaded Yellow Light of Death that so many PS3's have succombed to. You should call tech support as it sounds like you may need service on your console.

Sorry dude.

exactly... My computer is f***ed right now because I had it against the wall for so many years... I will turn off when ever it wants. The main cooling fan in the back doesn't blow as fast as it used too. Now I have to pull her apart and fix my sound card (which went out) and now the fans.

I have a small fan that blows 24/7 in front of my PS3 at ALL TIMES!!! It's a 60GB that means the world to me. So yeah good air flow and a open area is very important.

It has nothing to do with not taking care of ps3. I babied mine and it just died. I'm waiting for the box from sony to ship it to them. However, what the issue exactly I don't know. But those of us with YLOD(yellow light of death) might have fallen victim to fried power supplys. Some PS3's don't have a way to keep the power supply from overheating and burning up. Anyways, thats just what I heard from people over at the forums on playstation.com.

i'm sorry to say this but those who have a 60GB and baby it. Its going to happen eventually. I took care of my system, cleaned the dust out often with the air compressor in my garage. Never played for more than 2 hrs straight and always gave it alot of time to cool down before gaming. Yet i become a YLoD victim. This happened back in Late November and got a Refurbished 60GB 3 days after sending my system in. Its a shame that i lost all my saved data but i'm over that. I'm just worried that it'll happen again with the 60GB they sent me.

My PS3 sometimes doesnt turn on, but it happens when i've shut off the switch inthe back and left it like that for a long time it's like if the fans wont start. damn I almost crapped my pants the first time it happened to me. I just clean it and in a few minutes I try it again and it works.

My ps3's symptons are the same as the guy on youtube. His problem is the power supply. The lights come on still due to the battery within the PS3. But it doesn't matter, I'm just going to ship it to them, get my refurb. If it happens again, I'll try to fix it myself, since I won't pay around 150 to fix it again.

btw, I did clean out the ducts and what not. Dust isn't the problem.

You may also want to check your 80gb because mine that I replaced a 60gb with has NO fans in the rear for exhaust/cooling. This caused overheating issues for me until I added the Nyko TS series cooler just to give it exhaust fans. And yes the "TS" series is fantastic - so no need on bringing up previous models issues. :) The TS series does have a noise vibration issue though - if you consider getting one because your new PS3 doesn't have rear fans, you should read the blog/review on my home page - it's rather lengthy and I talk about both the PS3 and M$ compatible verions - but if you're a perspective buyer you may find some useful info.

Yeah the older launch skus are more prone to over heating regardless how good you treat it. Luckily I got a newer sku but I heard you can get problems by downloading certain firmware updates and that affects any sku.

i have a launch 60 gig and have no problem. one of the first 500,000 to come with taladega nights. i do that "fan test" every so often to get the dust out AND use one of those keyboard cleaning tools to get anything else i can see out of there. plus i just swapped to a brand new 160 gig HDD.

What he said.

You're both wrong. Who spends 600 dollars on a system to treat it like crap. Nobody. I have no doubt he treated his system well, I've treated my system very good, always had good airflow and it also got YLOD. The 60g systems are starting to break down. More and more of these threads are popping up. If your system is still working fine for you then I'm very happy for you, but don't assume that we don't take care of our systems. It can happen to you as easily as it can happen to any of us. FYI: A couple of things I've noticed about the newer systems. They may not have 4usb slots, the card slots, and backwards compatability. But they're definately alot cooler running. After hours of leaving my PS3 on, the newer 80g model, it continues to blow out cold air, whereas my 60g was always blowing out hot air. The system is also noticeably lighter, probably from taking out all those other things, and seems to have way better airflow. The harddrives from the 60g model don't fit in the newer 80g models. The front panel that comes off the 60g model does not comeoff the 80g model. The eject drive is a little noisier. The cable slots in the back of the 80g are in different spots than the 60g. Although I'm not happy my first system got YLOD, I'm very happy knowing that the newer models have addressed some of these issues. But, then again, time will tell. Luckily I picked up the extra warranty this time around.

I leave my PS3 in a Cell and don't feed it. I whip it daily and tell it how worthless it is. I never give it a bath because it doesn't deserve one...But seriously. I have it in an opened area and clean it almost daily. To be honest with you though my Xbox should have RROD by now I don't even touch it but it's still kickin'.

What if I sell my 60GB PS3 before it breaks down, because I heard they are pretty expensive, and buy a 160 gb PS3 if they even exist. The 160gb sku is has limited backwards capability like the first 80gb sku, right?
