Find the model number and Google it. I think the first few fat models could and later ones couldn't.

I want to say no since the early ones had smaller HDDs, but it's worth checking.

there 3 Models look it up on wikpedia. 2 of them i guess you could call fat, i have the 2nd model and it doesn't play PS2 games, but if you have the 1st model that's the one that does. Model 3 is the slimmest one of all and that one doesn't play them either. than come on here and let us know which one you have. and that's without looking at the model number all ya need to do is look at a picture on wikipedia that's it. that will take even less time than trying to figure out the model number

I think the only ones that play ps2 games are the 60 gig and 80 gig, although the 80 gig was emulation and was later removed with a firmware update.

If you're not sure just toss a ps2 game in, worst that will happen is the system will tell you it's incompatible.

I never heard of a 140GB model. I know that the 20GB, 60GB, and 80GB models could.

It must have a 160GB HDD and I'm not sure if any of the fat models came with one that size. I know there's a Slim that comes with that HDD. It's possible the HDD was swapped, but in any case you'll want to look up the model number, which should be "CECH" and some numbers. But chances are you don't have the right model for backwards compatibility.
