Well, I think I have an addiction to buying new games. Here's my argument...

Since I received a PS3 in early janruary I have bought:

-Modern Warfare 2

-Bioshock 2

-God of War 3

-Little Big Planet

-Uncharted 1

-Unchartd 2

-Rockband 2 (complete set)

-Borderlands

-Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time

-Fallout 3: GOTY

-Skate 3

-Madden 10

-Warhawk

-Red Dead Redemption

...all for PS3. 14 games in 7 months. Yes, that IS 1 game every 2 weeks. Who else thnks I have a problem?

TehXenoz

Its ok dude, i do it too. But eventually My Money will Run out.

Well, personally I bought a lot more games in the same time. I don't think you can say if someone has a problem by the number of bought games alone. If you have enough money, it's normal to spent more on games. I guess it's critical when you buy more than you can afford

If you have the money and enjoy doing it......no biggie. Part of gaming as a hobby for me is collecting games. There's a good number of games in my collection that I've either haven't played at all or played for only a short period of time. It would really benefit you to go about it intelligently though. I buy a lot of games, but I only buy games for full price ($60) if I'm going to play them right away. Game prices drop fairly quickly so waiting will save you large chucks of cash if those games you're buying are just going to sit on a shelf for months before you pick them up.

I win. I've bought 0 games this year. That's what happens when a quality company (Valve) continues to update its amazing quality games (Team Fortress2-PC). Thank you Valve for not only making an amazing game that will keep me interested for years...but you've also kept me from wasting tons of money on games I'll never play again.

As long as you can afford it, it isnt a big deal. I got my ps3 in december and now have 26 games, which I see as ok since we started late and need to catchup on all the good games that came out before we bought a ps3.

who77
I agree, its all about affordability. I would absolutely be buying TONS of games, but unfortunately I am in a little bit of a financial bind (nothing too serious). If you are worried about your spending, maybe try picking up some greatest hits games every now and then? I've been doing this and, I have to say, it is a god send. Metal Gear Solid 4 for 19.99? Check please :).

I buy about 5 games a week. And when I'm done with a game I sell it on Ebay, unless it was so good I'd might want to play it again one day. Also, when I buy games I usually buy games that are one year or older, when the price has dropped about 60-80%. That way I'm able to buy a lot of games.

I'm the one with a problem...I only buy about 1-2 games a year. Used. And gaming is my #1 passtime.

Though...if I had the extra cash on hand, I would easily buy about 20 games a month :P

That aint a problem for me, not only cuz i can afford it but i love to game and each game i own i was looking forward to, i had my ps3 since 2006, i have well over 64+ games, including psn games, psp games and ps3 disk base games. my problem is i buy games BEFORE i finish the ones i have lol. and i still do it, i go back to them though, just not as often as new games, i guess i get kinda bored with certain games if i play them for too long so i need somethin new and fresh in my collection so i can keep switching back and forth, and works well :P

Well this month alone I bought 6 games. Because Toys r us have buy 2 get 1 free, then bestbuy, and now Target has the sale going on. I feel kind of guilty getting so many games in one month that will make it 9 in one month :(. But I mean I just l love to game I love to collect games its my hobby and what I love to do when I'm not spending time with my family. We all have hobbies and this is one that is not affecting my health in a negative way so I say lets game on. On ps3 I have around 65 games disc base games and about 12 psn games/ Xbox I have 13 games / Sold my Wii thought it was crappy/ Ps2 over 200 hundred games but haven't touched it since i owned a ps3. This year I bought probably 12 so far I think? not sure hard to remember to be honest.

you seem to be a consumer instead of a player. do you mind the term 'consumer' instead of 'gamer'? you also seem proud of this (mindless?) consumption. but i think you and people like you are inadvertently the cause of a lot of the problems with the games industry, specifically its stagnation and lack of focus. it's good to experience different genres and stories, but at the same time it's good to have a reason to buy and a reason to play. if you don't have that, it sends the message that, "hey whatever, people will buy anything. we don't even need to try anymore, because it will sell.". this is the reason for a lot of the generic shooters and RPGs that flood the market. it's just people with too much money and not enough sense.

 I've probably bought about 50-60 games so far this year.. a good 20-25 (games that came out this year as well) of those are PS3 (even more if you count digital games) and I'm usually waiting for 2 or 3 in the mail (right now i'm waiting for Ace Combat on the GBA, Astro Boy Omega Factor on the GBA, Ace Combat 3 Electrosphere, and a play copy of Sakura Wars (i'm not opening my PS2 copy :P) Its not an addiction, its a hobby, and for someone like OP who's just gotten into it, its perfectly normal. I'm an aspiring collector though..

EDIT: and just to make it clear I do play every "new" game I buy, I only have maybe 2 or 3 in my collection of 80+ PS3 games that I haven't played..

Doesn't bother me one bit ;)

Truth be told, I've been a 'consumer' for more than 6 generations and have made my fair share of foolish purchases in that time. This generation however, I ain't doing too bad. I enjoy 'consuming'. Always have, always will. When one has an disposable income like I, they tend to purchase that which gives them pleasure. If I were broke then perhaps I'd adopt a more relaxed attitude towards my spending. I for one prefer having titles on stand-by rather than having to wait for them to arrive. (FYI, I live in a country where game retail prices are literally 100% greater than those in North America. So, I import) However, when I resort to purchasing generic shooters or RPG's is the day you may put a bullet in my head.

Thanks for giving me something to ponder though :D

Shoot, if that is an addiction guess I got that too then had my system since Febuary of this year and have 22 games for it so far. Heck I can probably imagine what would be at if I had gotten a job at any point this year. I have bought some other stuff this year too in the mean time and suppose if I hadn't collection probably could be somewhere between 40-50 by now maybe.

i'm not a lifestyle messiah. i used to have an addiction too, but then i started thinking about what i was playing and consuming.
