I think $59.99 is a steep price, but, I am also willing to pay the price as long as I am getting a game thats worth that price.

I wouldnt mind games moving back down to the $49.99 price point but I dont see that happening anytime soon.

No, in Canada they are finally the same price as their American counterparts. They are not cheap, but they are not expensive either:D

Yes..$60 is a lot of money for some people to spend on video games especially if you have a job that pays $7/hr (McDonalds, anyone?) However games like COD 4 are worth it because of their replay value. (BTW I dont work at MCdonalds)

For games with high replay value no... because the amount of time you put into it, could be wasted going to movies or other various hobbies, most of which are more expensive..

its pretty high up.. but with quality.. comes a price..
:/ developers have to exert ALOT more effort into making their games.. so i think 59.99 ... is almost about right
but still.. expensive

Regardless of how good the game is, yeah it does get expensive, the extra $10 definetly adds up.

Think about it, I got 8 disc games for PS3, that's $80 more I spend than what I would've when games were $50. So it definetly adds up.

59.99 is expensive, but 74.99 was worse for SNES games back in the early nineties. I remember paying that for Mortal Kombat 2, and paying 79.99 for final Fantasy 3

The only time playstation games were ever 19.99 was either if they were horrible and didn't sell, and stores were trying to dump stock, or if they were on the Greatest Hits list, which I believe meant they were out for a year and sold over a million? I assume they will have PS3 greatest Hits as well, but since the console just hit 1 year, no games qualified till now. Resistance greatest hits coming soon? Guess we'll see.

Anyway Super NES games used to be 50-70 new, and most consoles even back to NES new games have always been 30-40. Factor inflation in and guess what? Console games aren't any more expensive than they ever were. I guess the difference is maybe now you are paying for them instead of your parents?

They're too expensive.

They should be around $40-$50.

It's basically a gift at the price it's at now, with the cost of making these games they could charge more.

I'm in Australia and we pay AUD$99-119 (USD$86-103) and that is way too expensive for a video game. Luckily I can import games and don't have to pay close to that amount.

Sure they're expensive but I don't consider them a necessary part of my life style, however they are apart of it and I'm willing to pay for them.

You could also look at it this way: as long as we keep buying, they'll keep makeing.

Exactly, 60 bucks for a game is nothing next to 3-4 dollars for one gallon of gas. It takes more to fill up my tank than to buy a new game.

No, you have to figure how much these games cost to make. Also, it is kind of like a math equation. You pay $8 to go see a a two hour movie, that is $4 an hour of enjoyment (or pain if you did not like it.) You buy a $60 game and it plays for say, around ten hours. That comes out to be $6 an hour of enjoyment (or again, pain if you think it was bad.) Anything you want to do will cost a price, it is just games cost a bit more right off the jump then to go see a movie or any other sort of entertainment.

...No they aren't, unless it's like 59.74 vs. 59.99. Actually, The most expensive game I have ever seen for any system, except for rock Band, that comes with THREE specialized controllers (Guitar, Drums and Mic) is an Xbox game. Halo 3 Legendary edition FTL!!! Special Edition games should be AT MOST 10-15 dollars more, and they usually STILL aren't worth the extra.

No. I mean compared to other habits. Like drugs for example. $60 bucks will will buy you a few grams that'll last like a day. Or you could buy a $60 video game that last's from 10-50(some 100+)hours and have replay value. Then theirs multiplayer and online which goes on for a long time. So no this is pretty cheap.:D(I don't do drugs)Vyse_Legends

I love your logic. Seriously. (and no, I'm not being sarcastic. And I don't do drugs either.)

I always hear about how expensive games are in Australia, but how do they compare to other things? What's the cost of gasoline, or the average cost of living expenses, rent and utilities and such? What's the average monthly income? Like in Japan, something that costs a few dollars will cost hundreds of yen, but at the same time, someone who makes a few hundred dollars US in America in a week would be making many thousands of yen. So my question is, because I really have no idea, while a game costs twice as much Aus dollars as US dollars, how does it compare as far as % of income?

It cost's 40 to 50 pounds in the UK that sums up to 80 - 100 dollars a game. Thats rip! depending if the game really is fantastic.

I haven't read the entire topic, but here's my (European) point of view. PS3 games are VERY expensive here in France: 70 euros (more than 100 USD).

BUT, because there's a big, big but, some people are speaking english well enough to buy their games in the US, and here it becomes quite interesting: simply by buying on eBay, I get my new PS3 games for 45 euros including shipping. So thanks to the euro-dollar current rate (and it's getting more interesting everyday!), with each game I'm saving 25 euros-37USD !

You would think that everyone's doing it, but I can tell you very few of the French PS3 owners do. So either they're especially dumb, or none of them has a credit card...
